Currently binging a Cagney and Lacey marathon. It holds up well and Gless was gorgeous. I’ve heard the odd sapphistry rumor despite her being married to an old dude for years. Would greatly appreciate and gossip you can share.
Sharon Gless. Any gossip?

She played a lesbian on Cagney & Lacy.

R1 She did not.
There were rumors that she was the subject of a blind item about Les Moonves hitting on a TV star and then firing her when she didn't reciprocate.

I worked with her. Nice but a bit airheaded. Both she and Tyne were using the nose candy during Cagney & Lacey. Even though she gives a lez vibe, I never saw evidence of it. More likely I got a “not really interested in sex” vibe.

The fanfiction on this thread is something else.

It’s not fan fiction. Gless was in Betty Ford to help her break her addiction. (She met Elaine Stritch while there). She speaks very openly about it.

Ten years ago, she was on vacation at Ckub Med in Florida during the week that R Family leased it. My husband and I were there, too. So was Alec Mapa and his family. Seth Rudetsky, too. It was gay week.
Sharon Gless was down to earth and chatty. It was an all-inclusive resort, so as much alcohol as you wanted. What stood out most to me was her massive bunions. Both feet. It hurt to look at them, and she wore sandals all week.

She was an alcoholic, not a cold head. She’s spoken openly about it and her rehab post C&G.

R5 True. She was in big trouble with her addictions. Glad she got over it. I saw her many many years ago playing in Misery in West End. She was very nice at the stage door. The play was very good and both Sharon and Bill something played their roles well.

When the show back from cancellation, one of the conditions from the network was that Sharon Gless hair needed to "bounce" - so she had to spend an extra hour in Hair & Make-up so her hair was an upgrade from season 1
Gless was fine with it, as she felt the show was more important than the upgrades her character has endured,

Cagney & Lacy had a huge lesbian following due largely to Sharon acting like a man.

R10, and being hot.

Thanks very much for the intel, R6.
Ouch re: the bunions. Many actresses are thus afflicted after years of wearing fancy shoes.
Strange she was on vacation then and there. In gay week. In Florida, where she lives anyway. Was her husband with her, because that seems awkward. Good to hear she was pleasant, though.

I first saw Sharon Gless in Nip/Tuck as one of Ryan Murphy’s more revoltingly hilarious creations.
I loved how her character pretended to be an agent but pronounced CAA as “Ka”.

I read somewhere that Peter Bogdanovich called her a cunt, but I just can’t remember where…

She hit on Rosie during QAF. It's in her book per a post on another thread. And Rosie turned it down.

She was great in the BBC mini-series The State Within, where she played a Hillary Clinton-esque politician.
It had a scorching kissing scene with Ben Daniels and Noam Jenkins. That scene alone is worth watching the series.
