by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 10, 2021 12:41 PM |
I got my 2nd Moderna shot two days ago and was not a fan of the side effects. At first I felt just like I did back in November when I'm pretty sure I had COVID: bad headache, fatigue, body aches, sore throat on one side. Then it got worse and I had nausea, chills and fever on top of all that, symptoms I didn't have during COVID itself.
This morning I'm almost back to normal except a little nausea. It was 100% worth it.
The sore arm is going to be the death of me, though. It was even worse than the sore arm after my tetanus booster, and those are notoriously painful.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 10, 2021 12:43 PM |
I've had both my Moderna punctures. After the second one 12 hours of feeling bad out of the rest of my life was a small price to pay to be protected against dying from COVID.

There's a small percentage that will have side effects - as with a lot of drugs / treatments. Hence, the existence of all the weird/fucked up disclaimers for every drug medication on the market. I'm surprised that they don't have the same scary disclaimers for aspirin, because there are probably some people out there who can't tolerate it well.
Then there are a small amount of fucking drama queens of all ages and races. We've all met them. They get a minor injury or sickness and the theatrics are just so over the top.
I'm just glad that modern medicine has been able to provide a vaccine for this in such a relatively short time.

I received both Moderna doses back in January. I had a sore arm for a couple of days after each one. After the second shot, my face felt flush like I had a low-grade fever, my sleep that night was restless and I felt tired the next day. I took a nap for about two hours. After that, I felt fine.

I got my Pfizer vaccine at the pharmacy, where the pharmacist was a former student of mine. I said that I presumed that the shot was Moderna, since the Pfizer was thought to have to have been refrigerated at very low temps. He said that it was the Pfizer, because there were fewer side effects. He also said that Moderna receivers often get a rash at the injection site a week to ten days after.

Both Moderna and Pfizer have to be refrigerated at extremely low temps.

^This^ I made a point of not reading other people's reactions to the Moderna before getting my two shots. I didn't want a psychosomatic reaction. Yeah, I got a lot of the reactions that people talked about, but they weren't bad enough to keep me from doing my daily stuff. Had I read all these reactions I probably would have talked myself into not getting out of bed
To me the worst reaction was the horrible bitter/sour taste in my mouth that came and went for 2 weeks after. Yuck!

Folks who are younger and/or have a stronger immune system seems to be having more side effects to the vaccine. But the side effects only last a day or so. A small price to pay in comparison to getting full blown COVID.

Sorry, R49. I agree about OP.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 10, 2021 2:15 PM |
I’ve had full blown Covid. The side effects went on for almost 6 weeks. It was hell. Trust me - you don’t want to play Russian Roulette with Covid because your symptoms could be non-existent or mild, or they could put you in the hospital on a ventilator. No one knows to what extent they’ll suffer until they get it. You might think you’re invincible, but Covid can literally kick your ass. So don’t be stupid - get vaccinated.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 10, 2021 2:17 PM |
Remember what the experts said recently, that the stronger the side effects are, the stronger your immune system is. So, if the Moderna vaccine sends you to bed for a day or so wear your time in the sick bed as a badge of honor.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 10, 2021 2:19 PM |
R11, And doesn't it feel good to use a metaphor instead of meaning the real, actual "death of" you?

You know, every now and then we'll have a thread by someone in, say, NYC wondering where to move to (yep, preposition). And I always reply "the Lehigh Valley, PA."
Relevance: As of March 31, when I first tried, I could have had any of a hundred appointment times, including the next day, at my network hospital about 20 minutes away. Being still chicken I picked April eighth.
Or I could have easily gone out of network to the other major hospital system, with its multiple branches. Or one of several local CVS, Walgreens, or Rite-Aid pharmacies. Or my Wegmans and Wal-Mart's in-store pharmacies.
Almost all with current vaccine availability.
There's nothing like having a plethora of medical options!
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 10, 2021 2:35 PM |
For R25, but mostly for those not yet fully vaccinated:

I have a compromised immune system, and I take a chemo drug. But I had barely any side effects, just more fatigued than normal. My arm was a bit sore, and I took a long nap and that was it. I have wondered if you were exposed or had Covid, does that alter your reaction? I may have had it before it was a pandemic-I was sick in December and January for nearly 2 months.

While most people only get the flu like symptoms and sore arms there is a percentage of people who've lost hearing and developed tinnitus from the vaccines. It's happened with all three whether it's Pfizer, Moderna or J&J. These are not hysterics, nut cases or antivaxxer advocates. These are pro-vaccine people who didn't know there was this risk & many didn't even know there is such a thing as tinnitus. They got their vaccinations not thinking anything of it then shortly after had these side effects happen. They're in the process of seeing doctors & ENTs going for MRIs, etc. Some are being helped by steroids both oral & injected. Some are having improvement in hearing loss while others have permanent loss. I've had hearing loss & tinnitus for 35 years. I'm not getting these current vaccinations but will wait in hopes of something better in the future. I'll be masking & social distancing longer than others, but until you have these conditions you don't know how awful it is.

2nd Moderna on Monday. The next day I was fatigued all day, in and out of bed. Today I woke-up sweaty, so I think my fever 'broke'- but I'm still sleepy. I had some diarrhea a while ago. Very thirsty.
I really didn't expect this, but timed it so it would happen on my 'weekend' (Tues +Wed).

Felt awful after 1st Moderna shot for a day or so. First day after second shot I felt okay and was pleasantly surprised. Then I woke up the next day sicker than shit and praying for death (Covid, anvil on head, didn't matter). I have Vertigo so this aggravated the lightheadedness/dizziness, but you name the side effect, I had it: nausea, constipation AND diarrhea, aches, powerful headaches. Lasted 4-5 days. Bottom line: still believe it beats the hell out of dying among (caring) strangers with a tube down your throat! Also, I apparently have One Hell of a Strong Immune System, based on remarks by CDC about response/system ratio. Go me!! GET THE DAMN SHOT!!!!!

I got Moderna while the rest of my family all got Pfizer. None of us had side effects except sore arm and a little bit of fatigue the next day. I was tired after the first shot but not at all after the second. All of my friends and coworkers have had a wide variety of side effects with both types, ranging from none to bad flu-like symptoms for 1-2 days. One colleague's mother was completely disoriented for a few hours, then totally fine. None of it seems to correlate to overall health. It's so interesting how totally random and unpredictable it's been.

76 years (very) old here. Soreness at the injection site for both doses of the Moderna vaccine. No other side effects from the first dose. After the second dose, I had a mild (100.5) fever and body aches for a day or so. No big deal. I had a much worse reaction from last fall's flu shot.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | April 28, 2021 6:18 PM |
Currently on day 2 of my 2nd Moderna shot. The younger you are the more likely you are to have side effects. I’m in my 30s and it’s pure hell. I feel like I’ve been beaten with a baseball bat everywhere on my body (including my throbbing skull). I can barely walk. I caved and took some painkillers because I couldn’t take it anymore. No coughing or congestion though.

I got this 8 days after my first injection and it's a harmless, though itchy, side effect. It had only happened to 244 other recipients at that point (early March), according to the website where the pharmacist asked me to leave my side effect report. I have more odd reactions to things anyway, due to underlying autoimmune conditions.

It's a shame OP is a damned moron and couldn't be bothered to read the article
The side effects of the vaccines, however, tend to be mild; the vast majority of reactions include pain at the injection site.
More systemic reactions following the vaccine were similarly benign, with fatigue, headache and myalgia being the most common reported outcomes.
All of the local and systemic adverse effects became more frequent following the second dosage. Symptoms like fever, joint pain and body chills were reported more frequently.
More severe outcomes, such as nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea remain relatively uncommon among the various adverse reactions
by Anonymous | reply 101 | April 28, 2021 7:26 PM |
In most cases the COVID symptoms are not going to be worse than (and in a lot of cases not even as bad as) the side effects many if not most are getting from the second shot. I’m not saying don’t get it but I certainly get why people are anxious about it. I’m absolutely dreading getting my second (Moderna) - these side effects described are just about as sick as I’ve ever gotten (which doesn’t happen often). I already had terrible diarrhea from the first one.

If you have a reaction to the 1st shot, that somehow feels like you basically have the flu (or Covid) it's likelyy because you either have a really youthful robust immune system OR you're previously been exposed to covid. Most everyone will have some sort of reaction with the second shot. and then 10% of people won't produce any antibodies at all, unfortunately.

[quote] I’m absolutely dreading getting my second (Moderna) - these side effects described are just about as sick as I’ve ever gotten (which doesn’t happen often). I already had terrible diarrhea from the first one.
So don't get the second shot. According to you, Covid's syptoms are much less severe than the vaccine. Don't get the second shot. You don't need to be a martyr

R108 there are going to be laws about where you can go. So I have to suck it up. It’s also about being a good citizen (because if everyone chickened out of the second, we’d be fucked).
That doesn’t mean I’m not dreading it still.

R102, I had Covid. It was 1000x worse than the vaccine.
Right now 6 people within friend of a friend range from me have died of Covid. A couple days of sore muscles is the worst reaction I've seen to the vaccine.

R102 The problem is while a few days of soreness is what you've seen among those you know there are others who have suffered extreme reactions to the vaccine. Just as with COVID being something that can kill, it's also among many people something they don't even know they've got as they're not presenting symptoms. This is the worst of the worst being a killer virus (to some) while nothing more than minor complaints for others. It's vaccines that while are not causing extreme issues for the masses are still causing great harm to a select few. As always if you're not in that group it's easy to ignore those people. I'm hoping the second generation of vaccines will not cause the same problems as their predecessors. Novavax is making their vaccine using moth cells of all things. There is a nasal spray in development and then the oral pills. The sooner more options become available the better.

I had a bad reaction to the Moderna shot both times, very sore arm, weakness, and flu-like symptoms for 1-2 days. I just hope it provides immunity for a long time so the suffering will have been worth it. And I did have Covid last year. That was much worse.

I knew a girl who got the Moderna vaccine. But then she survived.

They're HIV+ or have cancer or something. They've had the windows sealed since March '20.

I am finally able to get a vaccine (I was eligible 2 months ago but had surgery and then some problems after and only now feeling well enough for it), suddenly I can't find the vaccine anywhere near me, it only lets me schedule 5 days out and everything is booked. I could drive an hour west if things don't look up in the next week, it's just frustrating that 2 weeks ago I could have gotten a shot within a few miles the next day.

It figures. Trump had a big financial interest in Moderna. He had nothing to do with the Pfizer vaccine. Republicans lie that he got them both to market, but it was only Moderna.
Everyone I know who took the second Moderna had pretty bad side effects, even weeks later. Not so with the Pfizer. I had a couple of feeling not so hot, but not really sick, days after my second Pfizer and that seems to be it so far. Months ago my doctor told me to try to find an appointment with someone giving the Pfizer. I think doctors know things about both vaccines but don't really say anything because they figure getting the Moderna is better than nothing.

I had Pfizer and my spouse had Moderna. He definitely had a rougher time with the second shot, said he felt like he was hit by a truck. But it only lasted a day. I was just kind of tired and foggy, but also had hay fever, though I noticed my hay fever was acting up. Talked to another Pfizerite, who brought up that her allergies were worse, so that may be a Pfizer side effect.
By the way, the "china virus" troll can't do math. The fatality rate from COVID isn't. 0.2 percent. It's 10 times that--2 percent. It was higher, but the treatments have improved. It's going to be brutal in India though unless they get enough supplies in.
Enough Americans died of COVID-19 lady year that we actually lost population in the U.S. There are still thousands of new cases a day.

The Moderna vaccine has more than three times the amount of mRNA that’s in the Pfizer vaccine. In addition, the Moderna vaccine does not appear to be modified to reduce the inflammatory response. This is according to the composition data in the Emergency Use Authorizations submitted to the FDA.

After I got my Moderna shots I started having bad dreams and pooping a lot.

I had Moderna and both were a bitch, esp the second one. Was really sick for 36 hours.

I want to get it but I have an autoimmune disorder and low white blood cell count. I don’t know what to do since my neighbors parents got the Moderna and felt sick so went to hospital, sent home, dad gets bed ridden and they go back to ER, he is unable to breathe , incubated, on ventilator and died. Neighbor said he had no health issues and they’re in shock. I know it’s still better than getting Covid because it can either send you to hospital or the long Covid can be devastating. But autoimmune disorders and vaccines that speed your immune response can also be a deadly combo so I’m so confused as to what to do. Luckily I stay home. If I go anywhere (it would be to the grocery store only) it’s triple masked and running in and out. I think my new cologne is Eau de Rubbing Alcohol.

I got Moderna, no effects to speak of either time.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | April 30, 2021 2:23 AM |
I also got Moderna. No effects at all after the two shots. Not even a sore arm.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | April 30, 2021 2:26 AM |
Alkaline water is everything. I heard someone talk about drinking a ton of alkaline water before and after the shot. I did that with both Pfizer shots and didn't have any side effects. Since the vaccines cause inflammation, try to be as alkaline as possible to reduce that.

I really don’t think there’s an appreciable difference between the two. I know a lot of people who got bad side effects from both and vice versa.
It does seem like a crapshoot though. But I guess that’s what happens when a vax is so rushed.

The people who developed severe hearing issues report getting that effect from all three major brands whether it was Pfizer, Moderna or J&J. People who got the AZ shot also report this happening. It's something these shots all have in common, but what it is just is not understood yet at this early date.
