'Fast Eddie' Savitz, the Philadelphia underwear collector of the 1970s
I'd never heard of this guy before he cropped up in one of John Waters' books. He was well-known in Philly among kids for giving them money for their used underwear and paying for their bowel movements.
[quote]Ed Savitz had an apartment on Rittenhouse Square and for years was known by the male youth of the area through word of mouth as a quick source of cash. From as far back as 1975, he offered teenage boys money, concert tickets and football tickets for their soiled underwear, and various sexual acts including: oral and anal sex, slamming his penis in a door, penis sword fights, urinating on him, vomiting in his mouth and defecating in his mouth through a potty chair. He reportedly kept the feces in pizza boxes in his apartment. He told the boys to eat cheese to make the feces taste better.
This must have been a HUGE scandal in Philadelphia at the time. Does anyone remember this?

I heard about him from a friend who grew up in Philly. It seems like he was infamous all along and yet nobody stopped him until the early 90s. I wondered how he could keep all those shitty pizza boxes around without his neighbors noticing the stench.

I remember Waters talking about a guy who would buy teen boys' dirty underwear and socks, he made it sounds harmless, but Savitz did much more than that.

I worked with two guys who, as teenagers, "availed" themselves of Savitz's generosity. Mostly posing for photos, some touching and masturbation(that's all they'd admit to) For their participation they received money or new sneakers. It went on for a few years, up until the time both went into the military.
A close friend lived in Savitz's building off Rittenhouse Square. She reported he was a charming man in public, but there had been stories for years about what was going on.
Savitz seemed to lead a charmed life, he must've had a protector somewhere(it went beyond just being rich) Why Lynn Abraham was so solicitous is beyond me, since she was usually a real ball-buster, and had a reputation for being honest, and could be a pitbull sometimes.
