Abyssinian Food.

Anybody ever had it? What's it like? I looked at a menu from an Abyssinian restaurant and didn't understand hardly any of it.

Isn't that basically Ethiopian cuisine?

by Anonymousreply 1April 8, 2021 4:20 PM

Try the veal.

by Anonymousreply 2April 8, 2021 4:21 PM

R1 yes.

Don’t eat the meat: stick with the veggies to be safe

Injura bread makes a lovely, rejuvenating facial mask.

Former? have you been adopted DO? Praise be!

I like injara bread by itself. Maybe with a schmear of marmite for the complete culinary culture fuck.

by Anonymousreply 7April 8, 2021 11:27 PM

To be avoided if you only want to eat with fork and knife.

The spongy injera bread isn't my favorite and nor is the mushy bean/vegetable dishes that go with it. I.e. I don't like it.

I don't know why they don't call it Ethiopian food. It's very different for Western palates, but it can be very good.

But it can also be very spicey - like burn your mouth.

"didn't understand hardly any of it"

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 11April 9, 2021 12:16 AM

Ethiopian food is heavily vegetarian, as mentioned above, traditionally served on a plate-sized piece of spongy flatbread. It is not unlike southern Indian vegetarian cuisine. I've had it only a couple of times, it's an interesting novelty but not something I would seek out regularly.

by Anonymousreply 12April 9, 2021 12:37 AM

It ain't no Mesopotamian food.

by Anonymousreply 13April 9, 2021 12:54 AM

It's boring.

by Anonymousreply 14April 9, 2021 1:14 AM

I don't usually like sweet wine, but the honey wine is good.

by Anonymousreply 15April 9, 2021 5:11 AM

It’s like Ethiopian food - but from 100 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 16April 9, 2021 5:33 AM

R15 honey wine sounds good! Never had it. Tell us more? Ethiopians do not drink water. They drink wine instead.

Wellness turkey pate.

by Anonymousreply 18April 9, 2021 6:19 AM

It looks like an overloaded diaper, although I'm sure it tastes OK.

I got one look at it and told my waiter, “Abyssinia.”

by Anonymousreply 20April 9, 2021 6:33 AM

That looks like the injera that is made with teff blended with wheat flour. The brown one is better.

by Anonymousreply 21April 9, 2021 12:15 PM

Mine went vegan.

Injera tastes like a damp bathmat.

by Anonymousreply 23April 9, 2021 3:36 PM

R23, it's very spongy
