He is "seriously ill" in prison, but this time, Putin isn't letting him out. Meanwhile, Maria Butina (remember her?) is helping Putin to gaslight the world by proclaiming that she "is tired" of Navalny claiming that prison conditions are too harsh when she has seen firsthand how nice it is in there.
Putin is trying to kill Alexei Navalny again - and this time he may succeed.

Biden should offer Navalny asylum in the United States. We get Alexei, they can keep Snowden.

If only, R1.
When he was "on trial" and drawing those hearts on the glass for his wife, I thought: this guy is either crazy or tough as hell, to be that unbothered. He looked James Bond cool.
Fuck Putin for what he's done and doing to this guy. I hope Parkinson's eats you up, Vlad! 🖕🏽

Navalny knows he's already won, r2. He is playing the long game with his life on the line. He knows what he's doing.
He is stone cold done with Putin's bullshit and doesn't GAF.
If you're the praying type, pray for Mr Navalny's health and protection.
If you're not the praying type, think of Mr Navalny with compassion and gratitude. One man with courage makes a majority.

Alexei Navalny is a one of those rare truly brave individuals, like Mahatma Gandhi, Aung San Suu Kyi, Liu Xiaobo, MLK Jr, Nelson Mandela, and Jesus of Nazareth, who are willing to die for their convictions. Navalny loves his country and his people, and he is ready to die in his fight for Russia's liberation from Putin's fascist oppression. Vladimir Putin is making Navalny a martyr, and Navalny's death will be the flashpoint that will lead to Putin's downfall.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 18, 2021 7:45 PM |
He is as good as dead. Sadly, he didn't stay out when he had the chance. He chose to return, even with the knowledge that he would be killed. I guess he hopes that if he dies, the country will overthrow Putin. Messiah complex.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 18, 2021 7:52 PM |
Messiah complex
Ironically, the ones who think of themselves as Jesus are the evil oppressive thugs like Putin and Trump who seek autocratic control, the suppression of their political enemies even through violence, the institution of draconian laws, and unconditional loyalty and abeisance. Of course, they are the furthest thing from a Messiah.

n a video posted on Navalny’s YouTube channel his deputies Leonid Volkov and Ivan Zhdanov said Navalny’s health had deteriorated so dramatically that a mass public display was the only way to save him. Volkov urged citizens to gather at 7pm on Wednesday in squares across the country.
The appeal sets up a showdown between Navalny’s followers and Vladimir Putin, who is due to deliver his annual state of the nation address at the same time. In January the Kremlin used brutal force to break up pro-Navalny street protests, with thousands of people arrested.
“Have you ever seen with your own eyes how a person is murdered? You’re seeing it right now,” Volkov said. He added: “If we don’t speak up now, the darkest times for free people are at hand. Russia will descend into total hopelessness.”

Biden's national security adviser has said that there will be consequences if Navalny dies but what?
"We have communicated to the Russian government that what happens to Mr Navalny in their custody is their responsibility and they will be held accountable by the international community," national security adviser Jake Sullivan told US media.
"In terms of the specific measures that we would undertake, we are looking at a variety of different costs that we would impose and I am not going to telegraph that publicly at this point, but we have communicated that there will be consequences if Mr Navalny dies," he added.

I emphasize with Navalny's predicament, but some of the commentary from the punditry is way over the top.
[Qupte] BRhodes: It’s hard to capture the profound sadism and broad ramifications of slowly killing [bold] your most powerful and popular opponent [/bold] in front of the entire world. What Putin is doing to Navalny is a defining moment of our times and people must not look away.
Listen, they've done public polling in Russia from non state organizations and with Putin removed from the equation, Navalny is still not the most popular replacement. He polls in the same category as Jill Stein. Hopefully, someone who can form a bit more of a mandate than 5% can replace Putin. Navalny isn't that person.

Here's a very good article that explains why Navalny is such a dangerous thorn in Putin's side.
Excerpt:
Tens of thousands of Russians across more than 100 cities took to the streets on Saturday to demand Navalny’s release. According to one poll, four out of 10 of them had never demonstrated before. A record 4,000 protestors were detained. Even as the police warned against attending the unsanctioned demonstrations and the temperature fell to -58 degrees Fahrenheit in some cities, Russians staged their largest protests in at least three years. The show of support and Navalny’s newfound recognition is Russia’s biggest political development of the year, and the anger beneath it could bubble and reverberate for months, even years to come, with parliamentary elections and a presidential race looming.

R1 You think we didn’t? Gosh, some people on this site are so fucking dense.
He could have gotten asylum in any country of his choice. He could be living it up now in a high paid job at Harvard, or in any think tank, or even just live off of the rich and powerful as a little pet project of these.
He went back to Russia because he is fighting for something bigger than himself. He knew what he was getting into. Regardless of what happens now, he is a hero. One day, he will have a street named for him in every major Russian city. That is worry more than his safety to him. He is fighting for his country and his people.

How is it possible to lose 50kg in 3 weeks? That doesn't seem possible. While this isn't research... on the show naked and afraid, where the contestants go 21 days with almost no food, they lose at most 25 lbs. And they are walking around and moving and exerting energy and burning calories. I don't know that you can lose 30+ lbs a week from not eating.

I can't even imagine what it might be like to protest in -58° F weather. But this demonstrates dramatically the resolve of an oppressed people. Today, protests. Tomorrow, they'll be Marie Antoinette-ing Putin's fat head in Red Square.

America needs to stay out of this. There's human rights violations taking place right here at home and nothing is done about it.
We need to get our own house in order first.
Let Russia deal with their own problems, there's nothing we can do about what's going in Russia.
Meghan McCain claims to be a low tax small government Republican. But she wants the US government to get involved in something taking place in another country halfway across the world? That wouldn't be small government, that would be big robust government. Something she as a conservative Republican is supposed to hate right?
We need to fix our own problems her in America first, seriously.
Let Russia handle they're own shit.

Because the American media largely doesn't report on them. There is a strong communist party in the country and yet you'd never hear US corporate media talking about that as a replacement since that would run counter to their financial interests.

R33, Navalny hadn't fully recovered from that polonium attack when he returned to Russia and was imprisoned by Putin.
His internal organs are still compromised and his body is unable to process food as it used to. Also, from what I understand, radioactive poisons like polonium affect your one density.
He's losing bone density, muscle density and is probably pretty dehydrated.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been moved to a prison hospital, where the authorities say his condition is "satisfactory".
He has been on hunger strike for 20 days, complaining of inadequate medical attention. He is now in Vladimir, a city 180km (112 miles) east of Moscow.
The FSIN prison service says he is being examined by a doctor daily and he has agreed to take vitamins.
