OP, I just cut the cord on cable recently, so I’m not watching CNN. But I do know that now there’s a P1 variant and it’s taking Brazil by storm. It’s mostly younger people that are getting it. The President there is anti mask or anti anything to stop Covid, so their hospitals are full. That variant is slowly traveling around the world.

The only way to stave off all these variants is for enough people to get vaccinated for herd immunity, but every QAnon and Republican website is telling people vaccines are terrible and if they get one they’ll be controlled by demons and go to hell. And masks are what’s killing people, not Covid. According to them, everyone wearing a mask is being exposed to something horrible (bad breath?) and maybe die. They’re also telling people that every single person that gets vaccinated will die soon. I’ve heard everything from a few months to five years from now. And the vaccine passport is “the mark of the beast.” So the problem is, if Republicans decide not to get vaccinated, Covid will be around forever and we’ll all have to keep wearing masks and practically boiling ourselves in oil when we get home. And a lot of these Republicans will end up with long hauler syndrome and we’re going to have to support them, forever. A couple of the recent variants appear to be worse than the one we’ve had in the U. S. for the last year.

So no, CNN isn’t lying or making it up. About 31% of Americans have at least the first vaccination, I read today. But what percentage of Americans are brainwashed Republicans that will never get it? We may be hitting the wall pretty soon. I know I’ve been reading that a lot of relatives of Republican Qanon people are sneaking and getting the vaccine as soon as they can, behind their relative’s back. But that won’t cover everyone.

Cable news is messy news. I tend to stick with non-US sources (like BBC or DW, not RT) for bigger stories and websites for local stations back home for other things.

I like CNN and watch it often, but I find they do like to sensationalize things sometimes.

From my memory they first did this with the death of Princess Diana. Not surprising though since they're a 24 hour news network, however, I do find the CBC's and CTV's (Canadian here), 24 hour channels to be more news orientated than CNN.

I gave up on them in 2016 when they were constantly posting articles during the primaries that said Bernie was "catching up" to Hillary. I don't have cable, but I'm just about done with that website. They mix in thinly-veiled promos for their shows with actual news by posting quotes from either hosts or their guests. Example: "____ reveals" or "____breaks silence on" or, from today, "___sounds the alarm..."
