I don't, because Melania's dressed like an escort, when she wasn't dressing like a Russian prison wardess, or seeming to follow Natasha Badanoff as her fashion icon.
Rightwingers say Melania's expensive outfits were classier than Jill's "Forever 21" outfits, but does DL agree?

God enough of that Melanja is klassy bullshit. Half the time she wore trench coats and looked like some Eastern Bloc soldier. I doubt Jill Biden gives a flying fuck what these inbred cousin fuckers think about how she dresses. All because the MAGAt men want to fuck her and their cousin/wives are jealous and strive to be her. Jill is educated, Melanja is not.

Melania did look pretty good most of the time she was in public. But she didn't do anything, barely maintained an office and only showed up three or four times a month, max.
Much easier to look stunning when you have 87 hours between obligations to get ready.

Yes as R6 says Melania is awful but she did wear some great clothes. The Noguchi art piece she installed at the White House is also pretty great. Much more chic than anything else on show.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 5, 2021 11:58 PM |
Melania dresses like Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman - all of a sudden new to money and thinking expensive clothes are chic.
Jill dresses like someone whose wealth grew steadily over her lifetime - who emulated the professional looks of women around her until she reached a point where she was the one being emulated, then decided to have some fun.
She was gorgeous when she was younger.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 6, 2021 12:01 AM |

Jill's using their own money and keeping it reasonable.

I don't like the outfit either woman is wearing in the photo OP posted. Jill's outfit is too short and her stockings and boots look (I'm sorry, Jill) kinda trashy. Melania's dress looks like Barron took aim at her with a paintball gun loaded with white paint and then aimed a real bullet at the middle of the paint splotch.

As said upthread, Melanie is a feckless, irredeemable cunt. That’s just fact. However, the aged-out hooker wore the hell out of clothes. Some of her choices (or things chosen for her) were straight out of designer lookbooks. She wore McQuuen, Ford, Alaïa. That inauguration gown was stunning. Melania will someday be sucking cocks in hell, but Jill Biden is and will forever be a Contempo Casual sale rack frau. Dr. Jill’s hair alone is a fright wig. Does it grow out damaged at the roots or does she beat it between rocks?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 6, 2021 12:23 AM |
Sorry, the wife of that racist, sexist, irresponsible imbecile dresses well. What Jill Biden is wearing in OP's photo is inappropriate for a woman her age.
The Slovenian-born, former first lady dresses like a former model, wealthy, Upper East Side woman who lunches. She's chic.
Michelle Obama was extremely and effortlessly stylish.
Laura Bush was always well turned out for a woman her age.
HRC looked more fashionable as a senator or secretary of state. As First Lady, she was frumpy...not knowing what to do with her piano legs.

R31 It would be nearly impossible not to be a better person than Melania Trump. She is vile personified. However, that wasn’t the question. I’m understanding from your post that you don’t care about fashion, which is valid. What I’m not understanding is why you were compelled to share an answer to a question no one asked? And, no one asked because the answer is obvious.

Melania's best outfit was before she became first lady. I can't find the pic, but she's wearing two hard knobby tits and has one hand near her vagina. She appears to be oiled up. Trendsetting!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 6, 2021 2:26 AM |
Melania always dressed like the wife of a Russian mafioso. You know the type: just walks into a Prada store in a major Western European city and buys whatever is on a store mannequin and instantly recognizable. All while the husband is trying to shove his bare hooves into a pair of expensive shoes. (No, I never went back to the said store to shop for shoes there...)

Anyone who uses the word “classy” isn’t.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 6, 2021 2:34 AM |
I sense Melanie spent hours upon hours preparing, primping, preening and buying fashion for her appearances.
Isn’t that what she did before becoming FLOTUS in NYC?
And didn’t she turn her section of the White House into a hair-salon-cum-fashion-fitting-wing?
That said, she did have some good looks. I emphasize SOME.
She also had some of the worst FLOTUS looks of ANY First Lady: the I Don’t Care jacket on her way to see imprisioned immigrant children was vile and malevolent. The white dress noted above with her nipples was disgusting, etc.
Plus she likely spent millions...of other people’s money whilst she accomplished.....what? Virtually nothing. (I am reminded of former friends and staff appealing to her to intervene in situations....like 6 January 2021. And she heartlessly refused.)
The jury is still out for Jill. It seems as though older, she (and her husband) have a quirky, youthful energy. I appreciate the significance of her inaugural dresses, and I like that she has heart to playfully put up Valentines and inspire fun and empathy after 4 years of soullessness.
Her April Fool’s joke of disguising herself as an airline stewardess had me laughing. And I love that she dares to wear patterned stockings that shock the Repubs in the face of sex-trafficking scandals of their own members. Scandalous!
You go, Jill. Keep on keeping on!

Tbh I think the “I don’t care do U” jacket was the most interesting thing she did. The responsibilities placed on the wife of a president are overbearing and generally misogynistic. Why should a woman have to do things based solely on the fact that her husband is a politician. The expectations of the public on these women are ridiculous. It should be opt in, rather than a requirement. She’s not getting paid anything, it’s not a job.
I don’t think Melania was saying that she didn’t care about the kids at the border, rather that it shouldn’t have been her job to in the first place, and that society generally didn’t really care either - otherwise it wouldn’t have happened. Kids are still down there right?
And I think the best thing Melania did was deconstruct the idea of the role of a “first lady” namely, why is there a role in the first place? Why should she have to care about Christmas decorations, or roses gardens, or have what she wants to wear controlled by others. It’s totally outdated. The wife of a president should be able to maintain a level of personal autonomy and identify and privacy that is currently denied of them.

Interesting points, R39. As a woman, can appreciate some of them.
That said, can also appreciate R40’s jovial comment.
Melania always seemed to be sullen, resentful and unhappy with her luxurious lot in life. One never sensed she enjoyed any minute of her FLOTUS experience.
In some ways, she may have shared feelings of her predecessor: Michele Obama. From what the Obamas have revealed, Michele was as au fait about her journey and experience in the White House As Melania.
Yet Michele manage some enthusiasm. And empathy during her 8 years. Melania seemed devoid of both. It was obvious from the moment she stepped out of vehicle wearing a stunning Jackie Kennedy ensemble and her husband ignored her while greeting the gracious Obamas.
I do think the idea of FLOTUS could be revamped; but the position is somewhat fluid and can be tailored in a myriad of ways to accommodate whomever occupies the position.
A stunning, charismatic FLOTUS could make a huge imprint with soft power, if they so desired.
But the position itself reflects more on the individual who occupies it - and their relationship to the POTUS.
The last 12 years have seen rather reluctant First Ladies. Melania, especially, hated the role and it was so obvious that it has resonated for you to inspire a post about misogyny, blah blah blah.
I see the position rather differently: an opportunity to shine and make an imprint.
Jill seems more interested and less offended by the position than her predecessors.
Will be interesting to see how the next 4 years unfold.

While Melania deserves to die in a ditch, I do think she wore mostly tasteful clothing while FLOTUS.
Jill's black outfit is not my favorite, but it's not like she wore it for tea with the queen. It looked to me like she and Joe were going to meet up for role play sex games.
In general Jill dresses well and handles herself with grace and intelligence. She is not a whorish gold digging slut without an ounce of compassion in her plasticized body.

[quote]Melania is awful but she did wear some great clothes
Her fashions were universally tacky and almost always poorly fitting, especially once she gained weight. She wore the "don't care" jacket, the Chroma Key Green gown, the white inauguration suit, the safari suit while on an international trip, etc. as stunts, not as fashion.
Her front wiglet never looked like it was attached properly, and half the "fake Melanias" people kept going on about were really the real Melania with her wiglet too far forward, terrible contouring on her nose, and ugly sunglasses.
Further, OP is just repeating what some nobody on Twitter MIGHT have said, who knows, there's no link, and this is about the fourth thread we've had on it anyway.

Your first post on this thread is about how great Melania's clothes are and how art she picked out for the White House was chic. If it's misogynist to relegate the role of First Lady to pretty clothes and shiny objects, then you're guilty of sexism yourself.
And I don't give a shit if you somehow missed Melania's friend revealing that she did things to "own the libs," like the "I really don't care" jacket. Melania is really the ultimate feminist by breaking all the rules. She posed nude with no regrets and lived her life on her own terms as best as should could while still being stuck with FLOTUS title. Melanie's fashion was very good in the beginning and then she gained some weight. There were some misses with the capes, especially the outfit she wore to meet the Queen. Melania got her style grove back when the election was lost. She looked happy again.

Finding R89 (and R39)’s definitions of feminists to be hilarious.
They are joking, no?
Melania is the anthesis of a feminist.
Trophy wife.
She did nothing but stand next to a man.
She is the third wife of a man who arranged for her US immigration on an “Einstein” visa.
She hated supporting her husband, but did it resentfully and almost had to be dragged to the White House. Rather than completely opting out and staking new ground by refusing the role or jumping in with both feet to claim new territory in the role of FLOTUS, she will be remembered for her shocking disrespect for children by wearing a bizarre jacket demonstrating “I Don’t Care”. And passively-aggressively pretending to encourage children to “Be Best” and “not bully” while her man-child of a husband was the greatest bully of them all.
She is a throwback to a voiceless, hypocritical, 1950s caricature of a woman resentfully riding on the coattails of her marriage.

MELANIA IS A MONSTER. A MONSTER. And, her clothes were sometimes pretty. It isn’t any deeper than that. If you can’t have those two thoughts in your head at the same time, you’ve got bigger issues. JILL IS PROBABLY A NORMAL HUMAN WOMAN. A HUMAN WOMAN. And, her clothes aren’t remarkable generally and are often ill considered. Again, two separate thoughts.

Cease the projection about the “bigger issues”, R93. You are tripping over your own post.
A monster doesn’t shine in “pretty clothes”.
As they say, beauty is more than skin deep.

And this is relevant because?
"but something tells me you don’t take fashion “wisdom” from anyone. Am I correct?"
You are correct, sir and or madam. Which means, if I don't listen to actual doyennes, why would I listen to assholes so stupid they believe in "Q?"
"Fashion stupidity- no quotes necessary - is your North Star, yes?"
I do like a good Bjork swan gown moment. BTW, would you buy the dress below? If they made it in your size? Could you pull it off, bitch? JK. I don't care what your fashion choices are, either.
" Styleless zero."
And a Happy Styleless Zero to you too, eh?

If your go-to reference is The Devil Wears Prada, that explains everything about your reasoning....or lack, thereof.

That very expensive Dolce & Gahanna coat she wore early on was gorgeous. She also wore something somewhat Asian themed when meeting with one of the Asian wives and it was lovely. Her first tour featured some beautiful clothes.

r93 didn't say ANYTHING even remotely close to "she's a monster who shines in pretty clothes." It's like you randomly picked someone in this thread to attack, just so you could be smug and superior.
You're one of the Meghan Markle hating trolls who spams the board with your nonsense constantly, and earlier tonight you claimed that anyone making fun of you guys or calling you trolls was infringing on your right to free speech, so you clearly have problems with logic and comprehension.
Complaining about a Devil Wears Prada quote on Datalounge, like you did at r98, tells me that you're some straight interloper who has no idea what DL is about, you just think you're owed this space. You're not. I mean, no one fucking moderates anymore and no one is ever going to get rid of you cockroaches, that's become clear, so you'll be able to be a slyly homophobic cunt on here all you want, but that isn't going to stop me from telling you to go fuck yourself for saying that actual gay regulars who make fun of your stupidity are violating your rights, or DLers who quote Devil Wears Prada are a problem.

Melania's powder blue Inauguration ensemble was absolutely stunning. STUNNING. She was wise not to wear the pill box hat that was designed with it: it would have been too much a nod to Jackie K. It was amusing that the press and social media didn't rave -- as they would have, had it she been a Dems wife. (Which only shows that the majority of the press is liberal Left and the paranoids who talk about Murdoch conspiracies have nothing to worry about.) The rest of her stuff was polite and forgettable. And as others have said, she did diddly squat except her standard Mittel Europe frau-on-the-make tigress smoulder.

'Member when Mel disappeared for a couple months? Rumors that she was ill or was having a major refresh. Will we ever learn the true story of Melanie. I mean, Melania.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | April 6, 2021 10:08 AM |
To me, Melania's clothes always had a theme and a message--and they might have been for you-know-who. She can't express herself verbally or in writing. That dress she's wearing in the photo is like a blood splotch. I wouldn't be surprised if she chose it as such. Maybe I'm reading in, but wouldn't it be fun in a series if a character used their clothes to send messages like that?

[quote]She posed nude with no regrets
No regrets? Then why did DJT try to buy up all evidence of her nude photos? We see them now because Cruz acquired them as part of opposition research. Carla Bruni, who went on to marry Sarkozy would be a better example. AFAIK there was no attempt to erase evidence of Bruni's nude photos.

Carla Bruni is from a genuinely "classy" family and is real, successful, high fashion model. (Well, back in her day.)

R95 Did not realize until earlier today that yesterday I was attempting a rational exchange with a fucking SEA COW! Your posts reek of ugly, unfuckable frau. You wouldn’t know fashion Céline from Celine Dion. Sorry your life ended up how it has, but I couldn’t give two shits about a reactionary hag. I don’t care what you think. The best part is that no one does. Sorry about menopause, Sea Cow. Stay cool, I suppose and take care!

I watch trashy gay porn and the guys are hot. I can see plenty of people considering trashy Melania hot. I thought she was funny a few times, when she wasn't mostly deplorable. Fuck Christmas was funny. Hard bitch.

Past first ladies who wore designer clothing knew how to use it without distracting from their husband's---Jackie Kennedy being the best example, but even the execrable Nancy Reagan did it without the glitz and inappropriate colors of Melania.

those that enjoyed Melania's wardrobe, you do realize you paid for it right? Trump doesn't have any money and she never wore the same thing twice and nothing seemed to cost less than $5,000
