Kate Winslet Says She Knows ‘At Least Four’ Actors Afraid to Come Out of the Closet

But leave it to DL to claim “everyone is just so loving and accepting of gays now! Hollywood adores them! Being gay doesn’t hurt anyone’s career” lmaooooooo God DL is filled with the lowest of low gays. And deluded to boot.

Any candidates on who the 4 might be?

by Anonymousreply 1April 4, 2021 9:17 PM

You have issues, OP. I've never once read someone on here write what you said.

by Anonymousreply 2April 4, 2021 9:17 PM

I've always liked Kate. I like the anecdote about keeping the Oscar in the bathroom.

Yes, there are many, many closet cases in Hollyweird. It's where the sick and miserable go, generally

We know.

R2 I see it all the time. Go open any Shawn Mendes thread.

Below is a link to the actual interview, here is an excerpt with the relevant part in bold:
Time for Ammonite, then. Winslet’s Anning has a lover, Charlotte, played by Saoirse Ronan. “A conversation about straight actors in gay roles is incredibly important,” Winslet says and, about 40 minutes later, we move on to a different conversation. “I hope there will come a time when it is automatic that [gay] actors get those parts and you wouldn’t have to put punchy film stars in to get it made.”
So the idea is that by casting Winslet and Ronan — 11 Oscar nods between them — the film paves the way for more same-sex stories, this time with same-sex actors? Winslet nods. “We could have had a conversation about how I feel about playing a lesbian and possibly taking that role from somebody,” she says, “but I’m done with not being honest about what my real opinions are, and I know the part was never offered to anybody else. In taking this part I had an opportunity to bring an LGBTQ story into living rooms.”
”But,” she continues, [bold]”I cannot tell you the number of young actors I know — some well known, some starting out — who are terrified their sexuality will be revealed and that it will stand in the way of their being cast in straight roles. Now that’s f***ed up.” At this she jabs a stripy pencil at the screen. “I’m telling you. A well-known actor has just got an American agent and the agent said, ‘I understand you are bisexual. I wouldn’t publicise that.’ I can think of at least four actors absolutely hiding their sexuality. It’s painful. Because they fear being found out. And that’s what they say. ‘I don’t want to be found out.’ ” Are we talking about men or women? “Men more than anything. It’s bad news.”[/bold]
When Winslet was 17 she was cast in Heavenly Creatures. She cannot imagine what her perception of the industry would have been had Peter Jackson asked to know her sexuality. If she had had to share private information about her preferences and experiences publicly, that may have affected her career. She wonders aloud if she would have been cast in Titanic.
That was 28 years ago — Winslet is 45. Surely the next generation, into gender fluidity more than ever before, will not stand for the idea that sexuality is a barrier to a role? “But Hollywood has to drop that dated crap of, ‘Can he play straight because, apparently, he’s gay?’” she says. “That should be almost illegal. You would not believe how widespread it is. And it can’t just be distilled to the question about gay actors playing gay parts. Because actors, in some cases, are choosing not to come out for personal reasons. And it’s nobody’s business. Perhaps privacy. Perhaps conditioning and shame.”
So what could make the industry less discriminating? “It takes more people to speak the way I am,” she says. “People are afraid because we live in a world where political correctness is dictating people’s willingness to be upfront. We live in a finger-pointing culture. And I definitely feel that holding myself accountable, as I have done, for having worked with Woody [Allen, for Wonder Wheel] and Roman [Polanski, for Carnage] has helped me feel like I am allowed to have a voice again. For a number of years it wasn’t right for me to speak like this because there would be too many people getting ready with their big pointy fingers. I don’t intend to browbeat or take on Hollywood. We’re just talking about young actors who might be considering joining this profession, and finding a way to make it more open. For there to be less judgment, discrimination and homophobia.”
So there needs to be a #MeToo moment for attitudes towards the LGBTQ community in Hollywood? She nods. “It needs its own movement.”

As they should r7

by Anonymousreply 8April 4, 2021 9:32 PM

Obvi her friend Leo

by Anonymousreply 9April 4, 2021 9:44 PM

whut she say is true, but i never liked her or her work......she is zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

by Anonymousreply 10April 4, 2021 9:46 PM

Jeremy Northam who she has worked with is a possibility.

by Anonymousreply 11April 4, 2021 9:48 PM

I used to have such a crush on Jeremy Northam.

Too bad, as with most English actor, he's let his looks go to hell.

by Anonymousreply 12April 4, 2021 9:57 PM

I took a lengthy break from DL and was wondering if Richard Armitage or Lee Pace ever came out. I'm watching the Marvel movies in chronological order, and the first one, Captain America, has Richard. I'm now watching the 2nd, Captain Marvel, and it has Lee.

by Anonymousreply 13April 4, 2021 10:05 PM

Henry Calvill, Jeremy Renner, Hugh Jackman, Gerald Butler - about Leo. I had dinner with Lukas Haas's parents MANY years ago. His mom told me that Lukas was gay and so was Leo. Ever since then I have figured that I must have misunderstood what they said. But neither of them have married, so now I must have heard correctly.

by Anonymousreply 14April 4, 2021 10:08 PM

Jeremy Renner is bi, and Gerard butler is a hardcore pussyhound; though he is also kinky and will let a dude blow him roles and/or drunken attention.

by Anonymousreply 15April 4, 2021 10:10 PM

There are few total heterosexuals in Hollywood. There’s much bisexuality.

by Anonymousreply 16April 4, 2021 10:11 PM

Thank you Kate for raising awareness about this important issue. I, as a heterosexual male, have been enjoying a privileged status in this industry, and I'm taking full responsibility for unintentionally taking opportunities from LGBTQAI+ actors. Thank you for reminding me of the necessity to learn, listen and grow. Discrimination, be it based on gender, skin color or sexual orientation, is completely unacceptable. We need to take action NOW. #OscarsSoStraight

by Anonymousreply 17April 4, 2021 10:21 PM

R14 sure....

by Anonymousreply 18April 4, 2021 10:33 PM

She said young actors she isn’t trying to include any of her contemporaries like Leo.

by Anonymousreply 19April 4, 2021 10:33 PM

Kate looks absolutely beautiful in that shot in OP’s post.

by Anonymousreply 20April 4, 2021 10:44 PM

R14 well that’s some tea. I don’t know, despite the speculation about Leo being gay, I believe he’s straight and a serial womanizer. I buy the stories about him and the models.

by Anonymousreply 21April 4, 2021 11:07 PM

Jeremy Renner is "not Bi"...By the way, he's a HOMO who rehabs-sell real estate with his "long-term real estate partner" You know that DL!!!

by Anonymousreply 22April 4, 2021 11:27 PM

R19 I think it's safe to question what she considers "young" because she also says "some well known, some starting out." She may well consider anyone under 50 young.
