It looks like this will be the new normal.
Godzilla Vs Kong huge box office despite pandemic, simultaneous HBO Max debut proves resilience of day and date method

It's a fun movie. I watched it on HBO Max.

I "watched" it on HBO Max....fell asleep during it (for what seemed like hours), woke up and was surprised to find there was still 36 minutes left.

My IQ is far too high to enjoy this type of movie, I'm sure it will be fun for the rest of you.

Saw it in an actual theater! It was alright.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 4, 2021 4:08 PM |
day and date method?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 4, 2021 4:23 PM |
Releasing the movie and theaters and on streaming the same day is called day and date
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 4, 2021 4:29 PM |
As an action film, I can see why many would want to see if on a big screen. Dont think this will work for dramas however.

It won’t be normal after the pandemic because studios can’t make their money back that way. Normally a film like this would open to $100 million +. Streaming can’t make up for that. Even if you rent it for $20.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 4, 2021 4:50 PM |
It would have normally open to maybe $150 million

As soon as Millie Bobbie Brown, Teenage Private Eye was in charge, I was done.

The basic problem is always adapting to new circumstances. With a global pandemic you have to adjust your expectations and shift interest in a new distribution method and properly monetize it. In this case streaming and dealing with illegal file sharing (which takes away at least one third of the profits).

Honestly I’ve lost interest in Hollywood reheats of lousy premises on themes and subjects they’ve made a dozen shitty films of already. This would be about as exhilarating as another. Jurassic Park sequel.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 4, 2021 9:54 PM |
Will this be the thread where the film itself is discussed?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 5, 2021 12:58 AM |
The proportions are absurd. Godzilla could stomp Kong with one foot.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 5, 2021 1:42 AM |
Pinth Garnell, relax.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 11, 2021 6:17 PM |
Even without the pandemic, a lot of people are fed up with assholes in theaters who either talk (incl. on phones) or text during films. If theaters actually enforced rules where they'd immediately eject anyone who disturbs the film, I'd go again.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 11, 2021 6:41 PM |
R17 They won't enforce anything. They're minimum wage workers and people are so violent these days that's it's just not worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 11, 2021 6:47 PM |
I know, R18. I wouldn't want anyone having to risk their lives to keep their poorly-paid job, but being seated in a confined space with assholes is not worth the ridiculous price. I have a big enough TV that I could appreciate watching it at home, plus I get to pause it when I need to.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 11, 2021 6:55 PM |
Plus they are afraid of online backlash/retaliation.

Young people expect the chatter and witty sidebars. It’s why we go to the movies
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 11, 2021 8:10 PM |
Sometimes audiences can be very funny in a movie theater. I saw The Dark Knight in a theater and when Maggie Gyllenhaal got blown up, people said "oh, thank god!" and broke out in applause. It was hilarious.

[quote]The proportions are absurd. Godzilla could stomp Kong with one foot.
Are you serious with this?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 11, 2021 8:17 PM |
Obviously, Kong is much bigger in this movie than in previous movies
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 11, 2021 11:01 PM |
Anyone got any good Godzilla and King Kong slash fiction?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 11, 2021 11:03 PM |
Oh boy
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 11, 2021 11:08 PM |
R26, I'm surprised Chuck Tingle hasn't released a trilogy!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 11, 2021 11:14 PM |
R24, my point was that considering the subject matter, why not just suspend disbelief and just go with it!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 12, 2021 12:24 AM |
were it scurry ?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 12, 2021 12:56 AM |
I thought this was a joke. This is an actual movie?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 12, 2021 1:07 AM |
Audiences love big monster flicks
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 12, 2021 1:09 AM |
Obvious Dept: Yes, it's scifi fantasy. Duh.
But every fantasy needs its code of reality, be they dragons or aliens.
ALL prior Kong films (and yes, I've seen them all) have a logic; Kong has to fit on the ship to get to NYC. The '76 Kong was bigger than the original '30s Kong, but fit into the bigger empty oil tanker.
Also, in this new one, why can't Godzilla just incinerate Kong with his radioactive fire-breathing? Sore throat?
No logic = stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 12, 2021 2:22 AM |
I don’t think Godzilla really wants to kill along. Did you see how they stared in each other’s eyes?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 12, 2021 2:25 AM |
