The man who wrote "Nature Boy," Eden Ahbez, was apparently heterosexual. He had a wife and son, But it's easy to see how a song with lyrics about a "strange and enchanted boy" could be interpreted as gay. Ahbez himself was "strange and enchanted," an eccentric for his day, a hippie and a vegan long before it become fashionable. He cared nothing for money or fame, and for a while he and his wife lived in a sleeping bag in Griffith Park. Here's a link to an article about the song.

Amazing a black man was able to have that career in the 1950s.

I think the lyrics are intensely gay.

I know crooners don't get a lot of respect these days but Nat King Cole's voice was absolutely beautiful. Rich, mellifluous, soothing, warm, tender, masculine and playful. I liked a lot of Natalie's work but her voice never quite enraptured me as much as her dad's.
