Water

How much water do you drink each day? Do you find it actually makes a difference in your overall health?

I try to drink 2 liters a day of ice-water.

Mostly to keep the kidney stones at bay.

I’ve never found it beneficial. I had problem skin briefly and was always told to drink lots of water. All it did was make me go to the bathroom excessively I don’t think it improved anything health-wise. I try to drink it when thirsty rather than soft drinks... but I certainly don’t drink as much of it as I used to and my skin has never looked better.

I think the benefits for skin health are at least vastly overrated.

My PCP had to advise me to reduce my water intake after I was hospitalized last year. My sodium levels had fallen too low, and I was having trouble standing and walking, and was risking a cardiac event because of my low sodium levels. I used to drink about two liters of water a day, but no more. I still drink water (and a couple of cups of coffee or tea) but I only drink water when I'm actually thirsty.

I drink the following (all unsweetened):

1 liter of coffee per day,

1 liter of tea per day.

and 1/2 liter of Hibiscus** (otherwise known as 'Agua de Jamaica').

That is equal to 2.64 US quarts.

I seldom drink plain water, but the above is all water. I sometimes swallow pills with water.

** Hibiscus is a dried flower that is boiled briefly in water to produce a purple/red drink, and it is said to have that same constituent as red wine, with no alcohol, of course. It is popular in Latin America and know as 'Agua de Jamaica' there.

R3, you could have just eaten some potato chips. I mean, seriously. How hard to you have to work to have LOW sodium levels in THIS society?

3–4 liters. I use a carbonate and add flavoring.
