Brenda Vaccaro is having a good time

She's 81.

Great interview:

Brenda...One of the good ol' broads.

by Anonymousreply 1April 2, 2021 12:59 AM

LOVE ME some Brenda! She is (should be) a MAJOR gay icon!

by Anonymousreply 2April 2, 2021 1:01 AM

Damn, she looks fantastic! How does Mo Rocca look older than her?!

by Anonymousreply 3April 2, 2021 1:23 AM

Mo Rocca should have his own talk show.

Anyway, Brenda Vaccaro makes Jane Fonda with her gruesome plastic surgery look ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 4April 2, 2021 1:42 AM

Love her -- and Michael Douglas did, too.

by Anonymousreply 5April 2, 2021 1:44 AM

We're cracking open a box of Playtex tampons in her honor!

by Anonymousreply 6April 2, 2021 1:47 AM

Like a moose with sinus problems

by Anonymousreply 7April 2, 2021 2:10 AM

Even though the movie was crap, I loved her as Fay Dunaway's sidekick in 'Supergirl.'

by Anonymousreply 8April 2, 2021 2:25 AM

Damn, Michael Douglas was keee-yute!!! She is a great broad. Love me some Brenda. Too bad Mo didn’t ask her about GG.

by Anonymousreply 9April 2, 2021 2:26 AM

I think Brenda is friends with Streisand.

by Anonymousreply 10April 2, 2021 2:30 AM

Regular or deodorized R6?

by Anonymousreply 11April 2, 2021 2:35 AM

Streisand gave Brenda a job in The Mirror has Two Faces, R10. She also co-starred with Elliott Gould in I Love My Wife in 1970.

Brenda and Babs may have been friendly acquaintances in the 60s when they were both in the New York theater, but don't kid yourself, Brenda does not have a key to the Inner Circle.

by Anonymousreply 12April 2, 2021 3:46 PM

I thought her name was Big Sally?

by Anonymousreply 13April 2, 2021 3:48 PM

Love her

by Anonymousreply 14April 2, 2021 4:09 PM

Bamburgas!

by Anonymousreply 15April 11, 2021 10:46 PM

Should have had a much bigger career.

by Anonymousreply 16April 11, 2021 10:53 PM

"Once is Not Enough".....surely there's a DL thread on this film, which I haven't seen in decades. I had no idea Brenda got an Oscar nomination for it. She looks fantastic. Italian genes, baby!

by Anonymousreply 17April 11, 2021 11:19 PM

She was terrific as Nicolette Sheridan's mother in the late, lamented Paper Dolls.

Inspired by this thread, I'm halfway through "Once Is Not Enough." It's terrible, of course. Starring Kirk Douglas - if Brenda was dating Jr at that time, I wonder if Kirk helped her get cast, or if she helped convince him to take the role.

I loved the book (so help me, my mother had ALL the Jackie Susann novels laying around when I was a kid), and so am enjoying the film in a weird way. For me, Deborah Raffin is actually the best in her role. She was gorgeous, and the right mix of innocent and arch, exactly as I pictured January. Kirk is okay. Alexis Smith acts too butch as Dee Milford Grainger; I would have preferred Dina Merrill. I respect Melina Mercouri but she's off-putting as Karla, far too vibrant, no mystery. Brenda did well with what she was given. George Hamilton as the society playboy has some funny lines that he delivers well. David Janssen is hilarious as the drunk author, even though it doesn't work.

Any other fans of the book/movie?

by Anonymousreply 19April 13, 2021 1:16 PM

Is there a David Janssen nudie scene?

by Anonymousreply 20April 13, 2021 1:20 PM

R20 I’ve heard there is, I’m not there yet. January has just met his character. I’ll watch the rest later tonight.

by Anonymousreply 21April 13, 2021 1:27 PM

Brenda Vaccaro seems like a good broad. I mean it as a compliment...earthy, a little bawdy and fun.

by Anonymousreply 22April 13, 2021 1:28 PM

I loved Alexis Smith. Cold and frigid except when she was with her lover. And seeing her lover at her funeral not really being able to mourn brought a tear to my teen gayling eyes when I first saw it.

by Anonymousreply 23April 13, 2021 3:23 PM

In the book, Dee was more ladylike and fashionable, darling, at least in public. Uptight, even. I felt Alexis played her just a little too tough and offhand.

by Anonymousreply 24April 13, 2021 3:41 PM

[quote] Too bad Mo didn’t ask her about GG.

Makes you wonder if Mo is really a 'mo.

by Anonymousreply 25April 13, 2021 4:11 PM

R19 YES! My mother had all the JS books too.. I loved VOTD and OINE so much that in Jr high I read them over and over again

by Anonymousreply 26April 13, 2021 4:39 PM

At the risk of losing some kind of card, I’ll bravely ask: who is GG? Greta Garbo? Greg Gutfeld? Gary Gilmore? Who?

by Anonymousreply 27April 13, 2021 4:48 PM

R19, Dina Merrill would not have been good because Dina Merrill would not put her lips on another woman's breast!

by Anonymousreply 28April 13, 2021 5:41 PM

Wasn't Alexis Smith just playing herself?

by Anonymousreply 29April 13, 2021 5:43 PM

r27 Golden Girls.

by Anonymousreply 30April 13, 2021 6:32 PM

R30 oh, uh, gee. I was thinking of a person, hoping it was some unmentionable scandal.

by Anonymousreply 31April 13, 2021 7:40 PM

Does she still sound like she's been sucking on a tailpipe?

by Anonymousreply 32April 13, 2021 7:52 PM

R28 That’s EXACTLY why Dina would have been good!
