Yeah, because rape is totally about sexual attraction.

Fuck off, troll

I grew up in a small town with a woman who looked worse than her, she would go with any guy and this meant occasionally she would pull a pretty hot looking guy.

by Anonymousreply 8April 1, 2021 5:21 PM

Season 3 sucked. In the first two seasons the police were trying to solve a murder case. It seemed unbelievable that they would devote that much time to a rape case.

And creator Chris Chibnall has practically ruined Doctor Who.

by Anonymousreply 9April 1, 2021 5:31 PM

I thought her being unattractive is a plot device. If she's pretty, it's not as intriguiguing.

by Anonymousreply 10April 1, 2021 5:37 PM

* intriguing

by Anonymousreply 11April 1, 2021 5:38 PM

R7 not “the whole town”. Just the black guy was obsessed with her. Her friends husband that slept with her did it because he would have stuck his cock in anything because he hated his wife so much.

by Anonymousreply 12April 1, 2021 5:58 PM

Wow this is old. Wasn't it a year or two ago? I stopped watching half way through. Preposterous.

by Anonymousreply 13April 1, 2021 6:06 PM

The actress' name is Julie Hesmondhalgh OP, and she's fantastic. Check out her episode of Inside No 9, La Couchette

Straight men will fuck any woman who offers.

by Anonymousreply 15April 1, 2021 10:27 PM

Only Season 1 was good. Seasons 2 & 3 sucked. It’s amazing how boring they were.

by Anonymousreply 16April 1, 2021 10:32 PM

It was ridiculous. She is the ugliest woman in Britain and everybody wants a piece of that ass. Please.

by Anonymousreply 17April 1, 2021 11:27 PM

[quote]Straight men will fuck any woman who offers.

And in this case, one who didn't offer.

by Anonymousreply 18April 1, 2021 11:52 PM

Broadchurch was good-- especially Season One which was excellent.

What he did to Doctor Who on the other hand ranges from tolerable to heinous.

by Anonymousreply 19April 1, 2021 11:58 PM

I thought the 3rd season was awful--it seemed like they were spending the whole time telling you how police should handle rape victims after their attack. it was like a woke PSA that went on for hours and hours and hours. I stayed all the way through it (which i cannot say for the unwatchable second season), but I will not watch another season of it again.

I am so tired of being lectured to by woke TV series.

by Anonymousreply 20April 2, 2021 12:05 AM

r20 I agree in this context. I want to watch a good crime series about some horrible awful crime, I just want to be entertained.

by Anonymousreply 21April 2, 2021 12:36 AM

The American version (Gracepoint) was a huge flop.

by Anonymousreply 22April 2, 2021 1:41 AM

[quote] And creator Chris Chibnall has practically ruined Doctor Who.

Hold my beer.

by Anonymousreply 23April 2, 2021 1:43 AM

Is the show over?

by Anonymousreply 24April 2, 2021 1:47 AM

I'm not going to lie, I'm a 50 something year old female feminist and I thought exactly the same thing as OP. Anyone can be a victim of sexual violence, but it was the idea that this woman was some kind of sex symbol in the town that was obsurd.

by Anonymousreply 25April 2, 2021 1:49 AM

Absurd. ^ R25

by Anonymousreply 26April 2, 2021 1:50 AM

So it's all about looks huh? Maybe they liked her PERSONALITY.

by Anonymousreply 27April 2, 2021 1:52 AM

She had the personality of a doorknob.

by Anonymousreply 28April 2, 2021 1:59 AM

I quite like Julie Hesmondhalgh in The Trouble with Maggie Cole.

Some forget that some guys go for easy either out of convenience or they have low self-esteem (scared of rejection). Of course, a TV show puts such a premise over the top for dramatic effect.

by Anonymousreply 29April 2, 2021 2:01 AM

The actress was also in Cucumber and was much better in that show.

by Anonymousreply 30April 2, 2021 2:22 AM

Did the cucumber find her irresistible?

by Anonymousreply 31April 2, 2021 3:03 AM

She’s the British Ann B. Davis.

by Anonymousreply 32April 2, 2021 3:36 AM

I guiltily, secretly thought the same thing as the Op. then I checked out the actress’ resume & interests & she seems like the nicest woman, it made me feel even worse for initially thinking that.

by Anonymousreply 33April 2, 2021 6:51 AM

Something about this woman.

Hesmondhalgh admits to being intrigued that she was approached about the part. “I felt I wasn’t like any sort of sexual-violence survivor that I’d seen portrayed on telly before. So often rape is shown as an act of desire, which it isn’t. So often it’s a beautiful girl being pursued through the woods – and pursued by the camera. But the whole point of Broadchurch was to show an ordinary-looking, middle-aged woman being the survivor of something like that. So I am really proud of Broadchurch, because of the way the conversation shifted at that moment. And that’s down to years and years of coal-face campaigning from people who were out working in the field. ”

by Anonymousreply 35April 2, 2021 7:10 AM

You know I just thought maybe that's how it is in Britain.

by Anonymousreply 36April 2, 2021 7:17 AM

I watched the whole series and really enjoyed it, though I’ve forgotten most of it.

by Anonymousreply 37April 2, 2021 7:21 AM

For anyone who hasn't watched BROADCHURCH is a great 1 season show. There's no reason to ever go back to it after unless you're just filling time. Olivia Coleman is great.

For season 3, they took an actress who looks ok in some settings and made her as ugly as possible. They gave her a short boys haircut which accentuates her large nose. They dressed the character in frumpy overalls a lot. No makeup. It's a plot device.

I think the problem with Broadchurch, especially Season 3, is that it’s so dark. Even Colman and Tenant were cold characters. Usually, in these types of shows there is one character or situation inserted for tension release/comic relief. It needed a scene where somebody goes to the pub and has a good time.

by Anonymousreply 39April 2, 2021 2:14 PM

The first season about the pedo who was into young boys was the best. Thr other seasons sucked.

by Anonymousreply 40April 2, 2021 2:16 PM

The third season sucked because the new characters they introduced were all awful people and the characters we grew to love were nowhere to be found.

by Anonymousreply 41April 2, 2021 2:25 PM

It’s been a while so I don’t remember...but was it even a serial rapist? Or just her? It just didn’t make sense that the police would devote that many hours on one rape case.

by Anonymousreply 42April 2, 2021 2:27 PM

Rape is not "just" an act of control/violence (though it certainly can be). It was scientifically investigated but not widely broadcast.

by Anonymousreply 43April 3, 2021 12:10 AM

The first season was the best because it introduced many of us to DL fave Jonathan Bailey.

by Anonymousreply 44April 3, 2021 12:24 AM

Obviously OP has never visited hagpussy4cock.com, "The Legal Place to Fuck a Corpse," with the slogan "It's a Hot and Dry Winter Down South."

by Anonymousreply 45April 3, 2021 12:59 AM

Didn't she play MTF Hayley on Coronation Street some 20 years ago? That's when I first saw her.

by Anonymousreply 46April 3, 2021 1:20 AM

Julie Hesmondhalgh looks like the gremlins that live under my bed.

by Anonymousreply 47April 3, 2021 1:22 AM

r47 We're insulted.

by Anonymousreply 48April 3, 2021 5:10 PM

Broadchurch series one was interesting because it focused on ordinary people's reactions to a crime in their community rather than the crime solving aspect. I wasn't really up for more though.

What accent does Tennant have and why does it get more prominent by the third season.
