Given the time of night, I'm wondering if they already knew each other. I'd also like to know what a 12 year old was doing wondering around at 2:30 am? Did he have Grindr on his phone or meeting with an online friend? The time of night adds a lot of weight to this terrible story. The parents and his cell phone will answer some vital questions.

Did those guys call 911 or what did they do? They seemed unfazed.

Yeah - I’m not sure what is sadder. That the guy shot the kid - or the absence of any attempt to help the kid by the 2 guys who see him dying in front of them. They just stand there and look. Crazy.

r16 it's a common reaction in general. . . not just stage fright but fear of violence, social media, lawsuits or criminal charges.

though in cases like these, even with law enforcement or emts present, there's too many reports of them not acting over fear of aids. that stigma still remains, too.

Two adults saw a 12 year old dying of a gunshot wound and just stood around waiting for the cops to arrive? I don't want COVID or anything but a person dying is 100% worth the risk. What a trash neighborhood.

In the story I read, it said he slipped out of his house/apartment to visit a "friend," walking one or two miles. He even arranged the pillows on his bed to make his parents think he was asleep under the pillows if they checked his room. Not noted in the story who revealed buy that, but it was mentioned.

One of you wondered his race. To me, his skin didn't seem darker shade of Black but maybe either hispanic or maybe even white or olive.

Seems he was initially blinded by the bullet and stumbled around until he was helped to a store. Horrifying. Apparently it's not permanent vision loss?

Apple and other devices need to create some sort of watch mode and child safety features for this children's phones. I know I'd have complete control of their Apple ID. Want to download an App you have to ask for my permission. Not sure what can be done about the internet access on phones and laptops but these cell phone providers need to offer some more tools for parents. Simply thing away the phones is about impossible at this point in society. Too many creeps are able to connect with children via the internet.

There are lots of ways to lock these things down, but then it becomes a challenge for the kid to break it. Better to work at strengthening the relationships than building bigger walls. And if your really that worried about it, take it away from them at a set time every night.

I was surprised when I met up with my college age kids and realized towards the end of the meal that nobody had had their phone out the entire time. they were raised opposite the helicopter rule.

It's a fucking hellhole. It is the most disgusting, frightening part of Miami that there is. Think about what kind of local businesses are open at 2am that this kid ran to for help--probably a tiny, shitty bodega store with hobos drinking outside.

The kid is out by himself because it's very common in that area to see multiple families living in a tiny shithole apartment. (COVID infections have been terrible there for this reason, too.) Also, lots of unemployment because of the travel/hospitality industry tanking. Domestic abuse in those kind of conditions has become common.

He might already be in an abusive household and was just looking to escape.
