I just finished watching Rebel Without A Clue with Hollywood cumdump James Dean. Why his awful acting was ever considered anything special is beyond me. The whole movie was cringey. I was embarrassed for him. What other scenes from movies are embarrassing/cringey?

Watch "East of Eden": much better!

I watched Rebel WOAC recently. The only one who could act his way out of a paper bag was Sal Mineo. The high school male students all looked like they were a decade older. I saw this as a young teen at the local movie theater back in the day

Nicolas Cage in many things, but mainly The Wicker Man. The "OH, NO, NOT THE BEES! NOT THE BEES! AAH! OH, THEY'RE IN MY EYES!" scene is famous for being so cringey.

"Andy...Debbie...Shelly's DEEEAD!" from Friday the 13th Part 3 (anybody who's seen the movie knows the one I mean)
And a scene in Halloween (2018) after Laurie has her wine drinking breakdown at the restaurant and Karen is standing in the parking lot with her family talking about what a rough childhood she had. Yet Judy Greer sounds like she is reading off a cue card. No emotion in her voice whatsoever.

by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 25, 2021 1:53 AM |
Couldn't agree more, OP. So pleased someone finally said it! Dean was just awful in Rebel. It wasn't even a roughly accurate imitation of a teenager, and his "anguish" did not look truly felt in any way. He was not much better in Giant. I didn't bother with East of Eden.
Brando may have been impaired by The Method, but he was an infinitely better actor than Dean. Look at On the Waterfront.
As a gay sidebar, does everyone think JR Ewing in Dallas got his initials from the prominent "JR" Dean's character featured as his oil company logo in Giant?

R21 is a racist piece of shit for defending a terrible actor and beneficiary of white privilege and gentile privilege who deservedly became washed up by the end of the 20th century and who publicly offered to bareback long after he seroconverted. He is. Of course you defend a gay man whose behavior was so stupid and reckless that it hurt other gay men: he's white and you're a miserable self-loathing racist piece of shit so you project it onto me. If it wasn't for that no-talent greaseball, AIDS might be as rare as smallpox by now.
Shut your racist white ass the fuck up. It is not homophobic to criticize bad acting by gay people. He's worse than a bad actor, he's a bad person, too. He infected other people on purpose. He should be in jail. He doesn't deserve to be gay but he sure as fucking HELL deserves to be HIV-positive both for trying to infect others and for all the racist shit Blacks and Mexicans have gotten because of it. If there is a Hell, he, Kirk Cameron, and Milo will all be roasting on a spit there in the Ninth Circle with plenty of room for Scott Baio. Bad acting knows no sexual orientation, no race, no religion, no nationality, no demographic categories of any kind. Your homophobia is the soft bigotry of low expectations.

Gay people do nothing but throw shade at each other all the time, but the one time legitimate criticism of a gay white man's behavior is warranted you project your own bigotry and sickness onto me in order to defend putting gay men's lives at risk. Vadgebot likes accusing people of being Janbot over things that have NOTHING TO DO WITH JANET JACKSON! She wasn't even in that damn movie. In a Streetcar Named Desire when Stanley and his buds are playing poker, suddenly Stanley becomes irate by Blanche's music playing and breaks the stereo radio in her room which prompts Stella to tear the white T half right off the back of Stanley's above-room-temperature-moist-riddled body (the shirt must've been made from some incredibly thin industrial paper towel material, otherwise how else would it have come off so readily?...) anyway, this causes Stanley the brute to fate with such daintiness that he is dragged off to the showers by Moe, Larry and Curly who then proceed to tickle slap him into consciousness....
This whole scene was so out of place it actually took me out of the film as well. I was laughing but for all the wrong reasons. Elia Kazan seems to be one of the all round lousy directors of that time, he really knows how to cheapen the potential of a film.

Recently I watched Gran Torino & the poor young male lead needed some acting lessons. The scene where he’s locked in the basement, freaking out, comes to mind.
Also season 5 of Footballers’ Wives, the actress who played Liberty (phina oruche, rhymes with douche), was awful. She was a British actress playing an American role, her accent was atrocious. “You wankerrrrr.” But her British accent kept cropping up.

I know it is ancient, but the two worst performances ever filmed are both in the same movie. Anne Baxter and Edward G. Robinson in The Ten Commandments are so awful it is nearly incomprehensible that they were allowed by the director.

I can't figure out if this is brilliant and intentionally funny or if the actress is just awful. She only has 2 other lines throughout the whole movie, so a part of me wonders if she was only hired because she looked right and would agree to do nudity and they just trimmed all her lines when they found out she couldn't even walk and talk at the same time.

Not. Anyone who knows the slightest thing about acting knows Kristen Stewart is one of the worst things to hit Hollywood in a very long time. All the frau morons who ate up the Twilight series clearly knows nothing about good acting, writing, or anything.

Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump is amazingly bad. I mean the whole thing is pure tripe!

Although Oscar nominated, Sacha Baron Cohen's American /Boston accent in "The Trial of the Chicago 7" is embarrassingly bad and he worked on it for months!

R132 So you haven't seen it but you're absolutely certain she's shitty in it. Okay. Well in case you ever want to broaden your horizons, she plays a supporting role and doesn't hurt the movie. Not going to argue about the shitiness of the twilight films.

If anyone would wish to start a category of films that's start incredibly good but then slowly deteriorates into total and unbelievable ineptitude that would be Valley of The Dolls. I believe it was "Neely O'Hara" who put in the last nail in a final scene. Hard to believe what you were watching.

Wait, R140, when is Valley of the Dolls every any good? Helen Lawson's first scene? Seriously, there is never a moment when it isn't unadulterated camp.

R143- THAT is what makes Valley Of The Dolls so good.

Porno has never counted as being movies. Give me a break. Like the overacting lil slut Austin, who has taken a million bare cocks but acts like he's losing his cherry every time. Puke.

R122 try saying it in a gangster accent.
"Yeah. Yeah. Where's your Yahweh now, Moses? Yeah. Give them mouse knuckles."

Gale Harold was always wooden and a poor actor on QAF. He was a pretty bland gentile. That's all he needed to be. I always hated him.

Fun fact, R125. The Red Sea really can part.
[quote]“The place I picked is not at the Red Sea proper, it’s at the north end of the Suez Canal in one of the shallow lagoons along the Mediterranean Sea.” As Drews points out, the term Yam Suf, a biblical term used in Exodus, means a marshy area filled with reeds. This is the same area where a British general named Alexander Tulloch witnessed a similar wind set-down event in 1882.
[quote]“He observed a strong east wind blow all night long, and in the morning the water had completely disappeared,” says Drews. “The lake was blown seven kilometers to the west.”

Winona Ryder. Doesn’t matter who the actor or director is, she’s working with. Has about the range of a middle school children’s play in all her movies.

R152 You're right, come to think of it. But that doesn't prevent her from being perfectly effective in the role – as in "The Age of Innocence," for example.
