Most embarrassing/poorly acted scenes in movies

I just finished watching Rebel Without A Clue with Hollywood cumdump James Dean. Why his awful acting was ever considered anything special is beyond me. The whole movie was cringey. I was embarrassed for him. What other scenes from movies are embarrassing/cringey?

by Anonymousreply 153March 28, 2021 1:52 PM

Watch "East of Eden": much better!

by Anonymousreply 1March 25, 2021 1:22 AM

I watched Rebel WOAC recently. The only one who could act his way out of a paper bag was Sal Mineo. The high school male students all looked like they were a decade older. I saw this as a young teen at the local movie theater back in the day

by Anonymousreply 2March 25, 2021 1:24 AM

Nicolas Cage in many things, but mainly The Wicker Man. The "OH, NO, NOT THE BEES! NOT THE BEES! AAH! OH, THEY'RE IN MY EYES!" scene is famous for being so cringey.

by Anonymousreply 3March 25, 2021 1:24 AM

Anne Baxter in All About Eve

But I guess, like Birdie (Bertie?), the audience was supposed to see through her

by Anonymousreply 4March 25, 2021 1:24 AM

"Cringey" makes you sound like a moron, OP.

by Anonymousreply 5March 25, 2021 1:25 AM

In Rebel, East of Eden and Giant Dean is an exponent of the Marlon Method and over-reactive and mannered. Contorted face, head clutching and shrieking!

by Anonymousreply 6March 25, 2021 1:25 AM

Exactly R5.

by Anonymousreply 7March 25, 2021 1:26 AM

I think OP was bored tonight and needed attention.

by Anonymousreply 8March 25, 2021 1:27 AM

The cast of Showgirls

by Anonymousreply 10March 25, 2021 1:37 AM

Candice Bergen in [italic]Gandhi[/italic]. Margaret Bourke-White's actual photographs have more life than her performance.

by Anonymousreply 11March 25, 2021 1:38 AM

"Andy...Debbie...Shelly's DEEEAD!" from Friday the 13th Part 3 (anybody who's seen the movie knows the one I mean)

And a scene in Halloween (2018) after Laurie has her wine drinking breakdown at the restaurant and Karen is standing in the parking lot with her family talking about what a rough childhood she had. Yet Judy Greer sounds like she is reading off a cue card. No emotion in her voice whatsoever.

by Anonymousreply 12March 25, 2021 1:39 AM

Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire- STELLA!!

Stick a fork in him. He's DONE.

by Anonymousreply 13March 25, 2021 1:45 AM

Cowardly Lion in Wizard of Oz - no real lion would act that way!

by Anonymousreply 14March 25, 2021 1:48 AM

William Shatner in anything

by Anonymousreply 15March 25, 2021 1:50 AM

British accents from Julia Roberts in Mary Rilley, Kevin Costner in Robin Hood.

by Anonymousreply 16March 25, 2021 1:53 AM

Go back to Leonardo DiCaprio and comic book movies, OP.

by Anonymousreply 17March 25, 2021 1:53 AM

Couldn't agree more, OP. So pleased someone finally said it! Dean was just awful in Rebel. It wasn't even a roughly accurate imitation of a teenager, and his "anguish" did not look truly felt in any way. He was not much better in Giant. I didn't bother with East of Eden.

Brando may have been impaired by The Method, but he was an infinitely better actor than Dean. Look at On the Waterfront.

As a gay sidebar, does everyone think JR Ewing in Dallas got his initials from the prominent "JR" Dean's character featured as his oil company logo in Giant?

by Anonymousreply 18March 25, 2021 1:54 AM

Danny Pintauro in [italic]Cujo[/italic] whining so much he made me root for the dog to devour both him and his mother and then let loose a loud belch while picking his teeth as the film ends on a Looney Tunes-style iris out.

All of the scenes in Catwoman.

by Anonymousreply 24March 25, 2021 2:14 AM

Obviously there's the scene in Valley of the Dolls where Neely just calls out a succession of names, with increasing actorly anguish, ending in her own.

Yet I'm a big Patty Duke fan otherwise.

I thought James Dean was a good actor and might have become a great one. But Paul Newman who basically replaced him was great from the get-go.

by Anonymousreply 27March 25, 2021 2:23 AM

Leslie Howard in Gone With The Wind. I can imagine Hattie McDaniel watching him and saying under her breath, “Who’d he blow to get in here?”

by Anonymousreply 28March 25, 2021 2:28 AM

R21 is a racist piece of shit for defending a terrible actor and beneficiary of white privilege and gentile privilege who deservedly became washed up by the end of the 20th century and who publicly offered to bareback long after he seroconverted. He is. Of course you defend a gay man whose behavior was so stupid and reckless that it hurt other gay men: he's white and you're a miserable self-loathing racist piece of shit so you project it onto me. If it wasn't for that no-talent greaseball, AIDS might be as rare as smallpox by now.

Shut your racist white ass the fuck up. It is not homophobic to criticize bad acting by gay people. He's worse than a bad actor, he's a bad person, too. He infected other people on purpose. He should be in jail. He doesn't deserve to be gay but he sure as fucking HELL deserves to be HIV-positive both for trying to infect others and for all the racist shit Blacks and Mexicans have gotten because of it. If there is a Hell, he, Kirk Cameron, and Milo will all be roasting on a spit there in the Ninth Circle with plenty of room for Scott Baio. Bad acting knows no sexual orientation, no race, no religion, no nationality, no demographic categories of any kind. Your homophobia is the soft bigotry of low expectations.

by Anonymousreply 29March 25, 2021 2:29 AM

He's the white Jussie Smollett and you know it.

by Anonymousreply 30March 25, 2021 2:31 AM

Just for that, anyone who posts anyone fat is fatphobic and anti-diabetes. You are!

by Anonymousreply 31March 25, 2021 2:34 AM

OP, I agree with you. His facial expressions and his overly-emotional delivery: people actually thought he was good? He is before my time (not by much) and when I finally tried to watch Rebel, I was surprised that this was considered good acting.

by Anonymousreply 32March 25, 2021 2:34 AM

R29 What you talkin' bout Willis? Danny Pintauro from Who's the Boss? He infected everyone with HIV? That's news to me, Willis.

by Anonymousreply 33March 25, 2021 2:36 AM

OP is Boomerphobic and anti-Alzheimer's. He is.

by Anonymousreply 34March 25, 2021 2:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 35March 25, 2021 2:38 AM

R34 Get lost, Janbot. Go infect everyone with HIV as you claim innocent lil Danny Pintauro of.

by Anonymousreply 36March 25, 2021 2:39 AM

R11 . . .a pall of incredibility falls on every scene she is in. Though she is a bit of a real-life photographer, Miss Bergen does not even handle a camera convincingly, albeit this is nothing compared to what she does with acting.

John Simon

by Anonymousreply 37March 25, 2021 2:40 AM

Innocent? Little? He's a middle-aged man. You're a sick pedo in addition to being a racist. And he's still a bad actor.

by Anonymousreply 38March 25, 2021 2:41 AM

R32 Exactly. Getting his head cut clear off in his car accident was the best thing to happen to the world.

by Anonymousreply 39March 25, 2021 2:41 AM

R38 You are the only pedophile on here, sweetheart. You are guilty of all the crimes you project out.

by Anonymousreply 40March 25, 2021 2:43 AM

R38 I checked out your sick history. You just go on and on about pedophilia. Clearly you are a N ambla lover. Get off DL, you sick pedophile.

by Anonymousreply 41March 25, 2021 2:46 AM

Nope, I'm not the one facilitating either the abuse of children or the infection of other gay men with HIV. You're a pedo for defending this no-talent ex-passaround boy.

by Anonymousreply 42March 25, 2021 2:46 AM

You're not just a pedo but a homophobe for turning a blind eye to those who deliberately spread HIV. That makes it harder for medical professionals to do their jobs. It puts an additional strain on the collective health of all gay men everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 43March 25, 2021 2:47 AM

R42 Pedo. Pedo. Pedo. You should be banned from the Internet, Janbot.

by Anonymousreply 44March 25, 2021 2:48 AM

R44 is Janbot in one of her psychotic iterations. She is the most disturbing thing on DL. She creeps me out.

by Anonymousreply 45March 25, 2021 2:50 AM

Wrong again. I'm not a pedo, and I'm not Janbot even though she got an Oscar nomination when that lowlife dirtbag was already a trivia question nobody asked for the answer to.

by Anonymousreply 46March 25, 2021 2:50 AM

You're a pedo and a homophobe for defending a bad actor who deliberately infected people with HIV.

Just for that, you're a racist if you don't watch [italic]Good Times[/italic].

by Anonymousreply 47March 25, 2021 2:50 AM

There are several psychopathic posters on DL. All are Janbot with one of her 50 to 60 sock accounts. Busted.

by Anonymousreply 48March 25, 2021 2:51 AM

You're a homophobe for defending someone who used undeserved fame gained through being a beneficiary of white supremacy to infect other gay men with HIV. He hurt gay people. He deserves to suffer for causing the suffering of gay people. He committed gay on gay sexual violence. Stop defending him.

by Anonymousreply 49March 25, 2021 2:52 AM

Janbot is a myth made up by psychopathic Madge stans to project her lack of talent onto Academy Award Nominee Janet Jackson.

At least Vadge won awards for her acting. All of them were Razzies.

by Anonymousreply 50March 25, 2021 2:53 AM

And she earned every single one of them!

by Anonymousreply 51March 25, 2021 2:54 AM

R49 You are gulty of all the crimes you accuse others of. We know your games, Janbot.

by Anonymousreply 52March 25, 2021 2:54 AM

Madonna is a no-talent gap-toothed slut who normalized the sexual exploitation of women and took gay people's money while changing nothing in the real world. No, being friends with Rosie O'Donnell doesn't count.

Mia Farrow in anything after Woody Allen rightly dumped her ass.

by Anonymousreply 54March 25, 2021 2:55 AM

By contrast, the kids from E.T. could actually act. They seemed like normal kids you could relate to.

by Anonymousreply 55March 25, 2021 2:57 AM

Janbot's posting history is nothing but accusing everyone else of being pedos and racists when she is the only pedo and racist on here. If only Muriel could block all of her 60 sock accounts.

by Anonymousreply 56March 25, 2021 2:58 AM

Todd Bridges looks like a master thespian compared to that no-talent ofay.

by Anonymousreply 57March 25, 2021 2:59 AM

Janbot goes on and on about kids in movies because she's a disgusting pedo. Gross.

by Anonymousreply 58March 25, 2021 3:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 59March 25, 2021 3:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 60March 25, 2021 3:02 AM

I doubt anyone is reading any of pedo racist Janbot's posts because anyone with a brain will block her everytime her turtle head pokes up from the asshole of all pedos.

by Anonymousreply 61March 25, 2021 3:05 AM

what's with the two posters bickering like drunken fishwives?

by Anonymousreply 62March 25, 2021 3:06 AM

You're the pedo for calling someone a homophobe for criticizing a bad performance by a child "actor," if you can even call him that, who turned out gay. Gay people do nothing but throw shade at each other all the time, but the one time legitimate criticism of a gay white man's behavior is warranted you project your own bigotry and sickness onto me in order to defend putting gay men's lives at risk. You're a homophobe and a pedophile, Vadgebot.

by Anonymousreply 63March 25, 2021 3:07 AM

R62 I love attacking Janbot. She is so absolutely psychopathic. It is fun. Just read her history. All psychotic gibberish.

by Anonymousreply 64March 25, 2021 3:08 AM

Vadgebot likes accusing people of being Janbot over things that have NOTHING TO DO WITH JANET JACKSON! She wasn't even in that damn movie. The only connections she has to him is that the two sitcoms she was on as a child were made by the same people as his lousy show that made hers look like classic TV by comparison.

by Anonymousreply 65March 25, 2021 3:09 AM

In a Streetcar Named Desire when Stanley and his buds are playing poker, suddenly Stanley becomes irate by Blanche's music playing and breaks the stereo radio in her room which prompts Stella to tear the white T half right off the back of Stanley's above-room-temperature-moist-riddled body (the shirt must've been made from some incredibly thin industrial paper towel material, otherwise how else would it have come off so readily?...) anyway, this causes Stanley the brute to fate with such daintiness that he is dragged off to the showers by Moe, Larry and Curly who then proceed to tickle slap him into consciousness....

This whole scene was so out of place it actually took me out of the film as well. I was laughing but for all the wrong reasons. Elia Kazan seems to be one of the all round lousy directors of that time, he really knows how to cheapen the potential of a film.

A while back, a DLer shared a clip from the film "We Were Soldiers." It's a scene where a black lady has just received the news of her soldier husband's death. She's in denial at first and angrily goes "Mmm-mmm! Mmm-Mmm!" (in a "nuh uh!" tone) over and over.

I can't find the clip anymore (it was once on YouTube) but it was the most unintentionally hilarious thing I've ever seen in a movie.

R20, yes, love it! I remember when Lynda drank the drugged coffee & said “mmm. I love the cream.” It was lol in a serious moment, so campy.

Recently I watched Gran Torino & the poor young male lead needed some acting lessons. The scene where he’s locked in the basement, freaking out, comes to mind.

Also season 5 of Footballers’ Wives, the actress who played Liberty (phina oruche, rhymes with douche), was awful. She was a British actress playing an American role, her accent was atrocious. “You wankerrrrr.” But her British accent kept cropping up.

Noël was genius at writing witty ditties but he had a a big ego and an exaggerated sense of duty.

I thought the most comical part of East of Eden was when Aron smashed his head through the train window then started to laugh hysterically while pops looked on in dismay. It was so over the top. Also Rebel Without A Cause, the end scene was beyond absurd, no teenager with a gun would ever run out with the lights on towards the cops!! So stupid. I have a kind of disorder I guess, I always love performances people hate. Andie McDowell in Four Weddings, Ali MacGraw in Love Story, Anne Baxter in All About Eve....to me they were all perfect and great.

by Anonymousreply 121March 26, 2021 5:27 PM

I know it is ancient, but the two worst performances ever filmed are both in the same movie. Anne Baxter and Edward G. Robinson in The Ten Commandments are so awful it is nearly incomprehensible that they were allowed by the director.

by Anonymousreply 122March 26, 2021 5:38 PM

I can't figure out if this is brilliant and intentionally funny or if the actress is just awful. She only has 2 other lines throughout the whole movie, so a part of me wonders if she was only hired because she looked right and would agree to do nudity and they just trimmed all her lines when they found out she couldn't even walk and talk at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 125March 26, 2021 5:47 PM

I liked Patrick Swayze in his prime but Ghost was one of the worst movies EVER. Worst acting/poorly acted from Demi Moore, with her horrible fake tears and wooden performance. Whoopi and Patty couldn't save that turd of a movie. Not a movie I'd ever be able to sit though.

by Anonymousreply 130March 27, 2021 1:24 AM

R130 Have you seen American Ultra? She's okay in that. I wouldn't say she has ZERO acting ability.

by Anonymousreply 131March 27, 2021 1:56 AM

Not. Anyone who knows the slightest thing about acting knows Kristen Stewart is one of the worst things to hit Hollywood in a very long time. All the frau morons who ate up the Twilight series clearly knows nothing about good acting, writing, or anything.

Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump is amazingly bad. I mean the whole thing is pure tripe!

by Anonymousreply 133March 27, 2021 2:20 AM

Although Oscar nominated, Sacha Baron Cohen's American /Boston accent in "The Trial of the Chicago 7" is embarrassingly bad and he worked on it for months!

by Anonymousreply 134March 27, 2021 2:38 AM

R132 So you haven't seen it but you're absolutely certain she's shitty in it. Okay. Well in case you ever want to broaden your horizons, she plays a supporting role and doesn't hurt the movie. Not going to argue about the shitiness of the twilight films.

Kevin Costner in that Robin Hood movie, unwilling? or unable? to do an English accent.

by Anonymousreply 139March 27, 2021 3:42 AM

If anyone would wish to start a category of films that's start incredibly good but then slowly deteriorates into total and unbelievable ineptitude that would be Valley of The Dolls. I believe it was "Neely O'Hara" who put in the last nail in a final scene. Hard to believe what you were watching.

by Anonymousreply 140March 27, 2021 4:39 PM

ANY dialog in a porno movie.

by Anonymousreply 141March 27, 2021 4:59 PM

^ sorry it's spelled dialogue

by Anonymousreply 142March 27, 2021 5:00 PM

Wait, R140, when is Valley of the Dolls every any good? Helen Lawson's first scene? Seriously, there is never a moment when it isn't unadulterated camp.

by Anonymousreply 143March 27, 2021 5:07 PM

R143- THAT is what makes Valley Of The Dolls so good.

by Anonymousreply 144March 27, 2021 5:08 PM

Dr Dre in Training Day, absolutely awful

by Anonymousreply 145March 27, 2021 5:11 PM

Porno has never counted as being movies. Give me a break. Like the overacting lil slut Austin, who has taken a million bare cocks but acts like he's losing his cherry every time. Puke.

by Anonymousreply 146March 27, 2021 5:16 PM

How the fuck did Roy Jones Jr get cast in The Matrix 2. His scenes are down righy laugh out loud cringey.

by Anonymousreply 147March 27, 2021 5:27 PM

R122 try saying it in a gangster accent.

"Yeah. Yeah. Where's your Yahweh now, Moses? Yeah. Give them mouse knuckles."

by Anonymousreply 148March 27, 2021 5:48 PM

The Hardy Boys and The Case of the Changing Pronouns

Gale Harold was always wooden and a poor actor on QAF. He was a pretty bland gentile. That's all he needed to be. I always hated him.

Fun fact, R125. The Red Sea really can part.

[quote]“The place I picked is not at the Red Sea proper, it’s at the north end of the Suez Canal in one of the shallow lagoons along the Mediterranean Sea.” As Drews points out, the term Yam Suf, a biblical term used in Exodus, means a marshy area filled with reeds. This is the same area where a British general named Alexander Tulloch witnessed a similar wind set-down event in 1882.

[quote]“He observed a strong east wind blow all night long, and in the morning the water had completely disappeared,” says Drews. “The lake was blown seven kilometers to the west.”

Winona Ryder. Doesn’t matter who the actor or director is, she’s working with. Has about the range of a middle school children’s play in all her movies.

by Anonymousreply 152March 28, 2021 12:38 PM

R152 You're right, come to think of it. But that doesn't prevent her from being perfectly effective in the role – as in "The Age of Innocence," for example.
