Do her pigtails stink?

Was Pippi magical or supernatural? I only saw the remake from the 80s and it seems like she had powers. I still remember the song.

Pippi Longstocking is coming into your world.

A freckle faced little girl for you to know, oh, oh oh.

by Anonymousreply 1March 24, 2021 9:18 PM

One of the best children's books.

by Anonymousreply 2March 24, 2021 9:21 PM

The pigtails were the least of it!?!!!

by Anonymousreply 3March 24, 2021 9:24 PM

I didn’t know the movie was in Swedish.

by Anonymousreply 4March 24, 2021 9:25 PM

Hey, DL, don't you dare badmouthing Pippi!

Was Pippi Longstocking a Swedish book?

by Anonymousreply 6March 24, 2021 9:29 PM

I watched the series as a kid. STV filmed many Astrid Lindgren’s children’s book series. All were well done.

by Anonymousreply 7March 24, 2021 9:30 PM

R6 yes, written by Astrid Lindgren

by Anonymousreply 8March 24, 2021 9:31 PM

I thought she was some kind of child whore.

by Anonymousreply 9March 24, 2021 9:31 PM

Did you read subtitles as a kid? Or were these movies dubbed in English?

by Anonymousreply 10March 24, 2021 9:32 PM

She was my idol. At 9 years old I didn't even notice the atrocious dubbing.

by Anonymousreply 11March 24, 2021 9:32 PM

Loved it! Just loved the story and her, very different.

by Anonymousreply 12March 24, 2021 9:32 PM

This Swedish version from the 60s/70s was creepy af and the dubbing in English was the worst. Here it is dubbed in some Asian language. The “special effects” were very special.

by Anonymousreply 14March 24, 2021 9:35 PM

It is a Surrealist masterpiece.

by Anonymousreply 15March 24, 2021 9:36 PM

I love that the Swedish movies were dubbed by what sounds like kids who were pulled off the street in Brooklyn.

R10 subtitles but I also understand Swedish rather well

by Anonymousreply 17March 24, 2021 9:47 PM

I had the VHS and wore them out. Loved these books and the whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 18March 24, 2021 9:57 PM

Interesting. I thought she was some bum fuck, backwoods Little House on the Prairie girl.

by Anonymousreply 19March 24, 2021 10:01 PM

I heard she could suck a mean "pippi" !

by Anonymousreply 20March 24, 2021 10:03 PM

[quote]Do her pigtails stink?

A daily dip in the ocean keeps her vaginal pigtails super fresh.

by Anonymousreply 21March 24, 2021 10:15 PM

She was lesbian

by Anonymousreply 22March 24, 2021 10:17 PM

[quote]Did you read subtitles as a kid? Or were these movies dubbed in English?

The movies I watched in the early 80s were dubbed.

R16’s clip brought back memories, I had forgotten about Tommy, Annika and Mr. Nilsson.

by Anonymousreply 23March 24, 2021 10:22 PM

So she does have magical powers. She makes a bed fly in the air and they travel around on it like a flying carpet.

by Anonymousreply 24March 24, 2021 10:24 PM

I saw the dubbed version as a kid in the '70s and I thought they were freaky!

by Anonymousreply 25March 24, 2021 11:18 PM

No but her pussy is naaaasty.

by Anonymousreply 26March 24, 2021 11:32 PM

Well the bitch's middle name is Mackrelmint!

by Anonymousreply 27March 24, 2021 11:50 PM

The English dub of Annika is annoying. She was always the whiny crybaby. They were always eating and laughing at stupid shit.

by Anonymousreply 28March 25, 2021 12:08 AM

Who was the bigger Swedish lez, Pippi or Greta Garbo?

by Anonymousreply 29March 25, 2021 12:11 AM

I rented the dubbed version of this in the '80s when I was a kid and I didn't love it, the dubbing was about the standard of the Emanuelle movies which appeared on Cinemax after dark which I watched a few years later...that is to say, terrible.

by Anonymousreply 30March 25, 2021 12:18 AM

Does that monkey ever shit on that rat’s beer of a hairdo? I hope so.

by Anonymousreply 31March 25, 2021 12:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 34March 25, 2021 2:13 AM

Why isn’t there an Asian Pippi?

by Anonymousreply 35March 25, 2021 2:17 AM

She’s like Greta Thunberg’s whore cousin.

by Anonymousreply 36March 25, 2021 2:26 AM

Greta would be a boring Pippi. She’d just stare intensely at the camera for two hours.

by Anonymousreply 37March 25, 2021 2:29 AM

I remember watching this as a kid and thinking it was boring amd creepy

by Anonymousreply 38March 25, 2021 2:32 AM

I named my cat Pippi. It was destined, she was a handful of a cat, a bit crazy. Lived to be 19.5 years-old before putting her down last month, the vet came to the house and did it. She made a little impression of her paw for me. Still grieving.

by Anonymousreply 39March 25, 2021 2:38 AM

She’s the one who smokes pot and goes off on negroes in the books. Pipi was all sorts of problematic.

by Anonymousreply 40March 25, 2021 3:03 AM

Sorry, dear heart R39.

Bootsy's response made me laugh.

by Anonymousreply 41March 25, 2021 3:18 AM

Poor Pippi cat! Sorry! :(

She probably stuck around so long to live up to her name!

by Anonymousreply 42March 25, 2021 3:25 AM

IIRC, in the books Pippi was strong enough to deadlift her pony.

She also smoked pipe tobacco.

She also snorted black tar heroin, although I may have that confused with another children's book character.

by Anonymousreply 43March 25, 2021 3:26 AM

That was the latest remake, Pippispotting, a redux of Trainspotting.

Is there a trans porn parody called Transpotting?

by Anonymousreply 44March 25, 2021 3:35 AM

Most things swedish are creepy.

by Anonymousreply 45March 25, 2021 3:41 AM

I just always found then weird when they showed up randomly on TV. It’s the kinda thing that’s fun to watch stoned.

by Anonymousreply 46March 25, 2021 3:45 AM

God, I loved Pippi Longstocking movies as a kid.

by Anonymousreply 47March 25, 2021 3:57 AM

Oscar!!!!

by Anonymousreply 48March 25, 2021 9:57 AM

I remember seeing this when I was a kid in the 70s, but I must have been very young since I don’t remember anything about it other than the pigtails.

by Anonymousreply 49March 25, 2021 12:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 50March 25, 2021 12:08 PM

Greedy lutefisk-eating Volvo-driving ABBA jockeys. Time for a Black Pippi Longstocking.

by Anonymousreply 52March 25, 2021 3:05 PM

yes, Pippi had super strength. Her father did too, I don’t know if he passed on a magic spell to her from the South Seas or not. I think she could also command the wind.

The 1988 version hasn't aged particularly well. It was done on the cheap at a TV studio in Florida, and it seems like they wanted to do it as a musical but then when they found the actors they hired couldn't sing, they dubbed in these big choruses of kiddie singers singing forgettable songs that sound like late 1980s pop; the title song is the only one that's any good. It's anachronistic because everyone is dressed like they're in the mid-1950s. And they turned Pippi into a real brat instead of a smart, inquisitive child who challenges authority. Throwing ice cream at orphans? Being rude in math class? Dumping sugar on the table? And that stuff with those two burglars trying to steal Pippi's house just goes nowhere.

I haven't rewatched the Swedish-made 1970s films but even as a kid I remember those as being better and more like the books. The 1997 animated version looked pretty bad.

I never thought about it as a kid, but looking back I think you're right. I suspect Tommy might have been gay too.

The original films are surreal and super weird to see now. Really enjoyable and trippy. Sid and Marty Krofft-level weird.

There’s a great SCTV parody out there somewhere.

I still love the first original movie dubbed in English, weirdness and all. It started a lifelong fascination with that dreamy faraway country called Sweden. The movie isn’t anything special, really, just 3 kids running around doing kid things, but the way they do it is weird, and Pippi stands up to bullies, police, and criminals, which I like. If I recall, she goes out on a raft looking for “shpunk” — very weird girl.

by Anonymousreply 64April 8, 2021 4:15 PM

I don't watch movies about sex workers.

I’ve spoken to you about this before darling — you weren’t watching pippi longstocking, you were staring into a mirror.

by Anonymousreply 74March 20, 2022 3:50 PM

I loved the dubbed movies as a child. I think Pippi was the original latchkey kid.
