OMG, Flagyl is a Horrible Drug

That is all.

by Anonymousreply 57April 1, 2021 12:24 PM

Stop eating dirty ass and you won’t get worms.

by Anonymousreply 1March 24, 2021 2:52 AM

Why are you taking Flagyl/metronidazole, OP?

by Anonymousreply 2March 24, 2021 2:52 AM

OP, rimming is best left to the professional whores in the videos

by Anonymousreply 3March 24, 2021 2:52 AM

LOL I give it to foster kittens for diarrhea, OP.

I've never taken it myself.

by Anonymousreply 4March 24, 2021 2:56 AM

OP, I feel your pain. I had to take it for 3 weeks for diverticulitis.

I had to give it to my cat in a liquid form and he would not swallow it. He would keep it in his mouth and slowly let it drool out.

by Anonymousreply 5March 24, 2021 2:58 AM

I was in the hospital for surgery, they gave me heavy duty IV antibiotics & I came down with C diff. The flagyl is for C Diff.

by Anonymousreply 6March 24, 2021 2:58 AM

I got a horrible intestinal virus while traveling in India for work about 10 years ago and Flagyl was the drug that fixed me up within 24 hours after I got home. It was a miracle drug for me at that time.

by Anonymousreply 7March 24, 2021 3:45 AM

One of the nastiest tasting drugs. Cats absolutely hate it!

by Anonymousreply 8March 24, 2021 3:46 AM

So is Cipro

by Anonymousreply 9March 24, 2021 3:48 AM

The nausea is unbelievable. I never have adverse reactions to antibiotics. This is the first antibiotic that’s made me so nauseous, tired & my face is all red. I don’t drink alcohol, btw. I know this drug makes people terribly sick if they drink alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 10March 24, 2021 3:50 AM

You need to call your doctor and tell him Flagyl no longer works for c diff, many strains are now resistant to it.. Demand he give you Vancomycin.

by Anonymousreply 11March 24, 2021 3:50 AM

See Diff, See Diff run!

by Anonymousreply 12March 24, 2021 3:51 AM

Here is some good info on treating c. diff. I had it for 8 months before they figured it out.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 13March 24, 2021 3:52 AM

It’s the surgeon who gave it to me. He told me to see the infectious disease group who followed me in the hospital but I can’t do that because of a person who is in that group. It has to do with professional ethics. I can’t explain why, it’s a HIPAA thing.

by Anonymousreply 14March 24, 2021 3:53 AM

When you get Flagyl (Metronidazole) in pill form, the warning label says DO NOT TAKE WITH ALCOHOL

They mean it. It can get you violently ill. I wouldn't even risk using mouthwash at the same time

The drug interaction with alcohol is what the drug, Antabuse (Disulfiram) is based off of. It's to help alcoholics treat alcoholism. They get sick when they drink

by Anonymousreply 15March 24, 2021 3:54 AM

[quote] You need to call your doctor and tell him Flagyl no longer works for c diff, many strains are now resistant to it.. Demand he give you Vancomycin

If OP is R6 or was in the hospital, chances are he got IV Vanco

don't play dr

by Anonymousreply 16March 24, 2021 3:56 AM

You could always go to an urgent care center in the morning and explain you aren't doing well with the Flagyl and ask for Vancomycin, as that is the first line of treatment doctors are supposed to use for this infection.. I wouldn't mess around with Flagyl.

by Anonymousreply 17March 24, 2021 3:56 AM

r16 I lived with this bitch for 8 months, he needs the oral Vancomycin. IV Vanco does not work either. He can do this now, or get a prescription for it in a few weeks when the c diff comes back.

by Anonymousreply 18March 24, 2021 4:00 AM

[quote]The drug interaction with alcohol is what the drug, Antabuse (Disulfiram) is based off of. It's to help alcoholics treat alcoholism. They get sick when they drink.

Welcome to 1975 cutting edge treatments for the alcoholics! Ask your GP.

by Anonymousreply 19March 24, 2021 4:04 AM

I don’t drink alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 20March 24, 2021 4:09 AM

You'll die if you even put some relish on your burger though OP!! For god sakes avoid Kimchi and sauerkraut. Ask R19.

by Anonymousreply 21March 24, 2021 4:11 AM

All of this diarrhea started when I was in the hospital & they gave me barium. That’s what set it all off. I need to give a specimen but the dr didn’t give me a cup & Im too sick to go to shower (carefully, I still have a wound), dress & drive to a lab & get one. I’m dizzy. My husband can’t get it for me because he can’t comprehend how to go to a lab (call first because of pandemic) and get one. He’s got a psychological block against taking instructions from me.

Why did you have it for 8 months, R18?

by Anonymousreply 22March 24, 2021 4:16 AM

If you've ever travelled India Nepal etc and developed giardiasis -- and you probably will -- then you'll quickly learn to appreciate the rapid relief metronidazole brings. Available at just about any third-world pharmacy for peanuts.

by Anonymousreply 23March 24, 2021 4:17 AM

Don't eat fermented peanuts with Flagyl R23!!! You'll kill people.

And yes Barium and Iodine contrasts can set off months of misery for many people when they have CT scans. Refuse those resolutions - no matter what they say.

by Anonymousreply 24March 24, 2021 4:21 AM

C diff is the result of your good intestinal flora being completely wiped out by antibiotic use. Nature abhors a vacuum and Clostridium difficile is a very efficient colonizer of a colon lacking good intestinal flora. I personally think it's a bad idea to use yet ANOTHER antibiotic to try to wipe it out. Lots of anecdotes that treatment by VANC made it worse. There have been a number of studies supporting the use of saccharomyces boulardii, a yeast found on a tropical fruit skin, to treat C diff. I think the reluctance to use it is purely a matter of cost. It is relatively inexpensive and can be found in any health food and supplement store.

by Anonymousreply 25March 24, 2021 4:33 AM

r22 Because they didn't test me for it due to Covid, then they tested me 4 months later but it was negative even though I was in the hospital with all the symptoms and lost 15 pounds. Then months later my primary tested me one more time and it was positive. I had bad nausea and GERD, so I guess it didn't look like it to them.

I wasn't on antibiotics in years, and I wasn't on PPI's which also cause it, my doctor thinks it was because of too much stress. I think I got it in the bathroom at work, it's nasty in there.

by Anonymousreply 26March 24, 2021 4:44 AM

[quote] And yes Barium and Iodine contrasts can set off months of misery for many people when they have CT scans.

Really? How come? Don’t you shit that stuff out of your system?

by Anonymousreply 27March 24, 2021 4:59 AM

Google, your friend R27. Not everyone, but many have lasting G.I. issues and reactions to the iodine contrast. Don't take the fucking shit. A cold contrast for an MRI is the better way to go. But for a CT scan - why risk months of abdominal pain from that hot flush of iodine? They can see enough without it.

Barium is sometimes deemed necessary, but there's always another, less problematic way. Just costs more. Don't put Madame Curie in charge of your radiology.

by Anonymousreply 28March 24, 2021 5:05 AM

I did a search and I can’t find anything about barium causing months of GI issues.

by Anonymousreply 29March 24, 2021 5:10 AM

Don’t drink orange juice or anything very acidic before or after Flagyl.

You will puke.

by Anonymousreply 30March 24, 2021 5:12 AM

Ah, I remember Flagyl from the 90s. Lots of rimming led to giardia. The piper must be paid!

by Anonymousreply 31March 24, 2021 5:16 AM

The best way to get Flagyl down is to eat a hotdog with relish and mustard, washed down with a cold beer.

by Anonymousreply 32March 24, 2021 5:17 AM

I had to take Flagyl back in the 90s after a trip to remote parts of Thailand. Friends and I on that trip all got sick with giardia. The metallic taste of that medicine was awful. Never again!

by Anonymousreply 33March 24, 2021 5:26 AM

When I was a raging whore in my 20’s I’d always get prescribed flagyl for infections. I was also a raging alcoholic and drank heavily every day and never had any for whatever reason .

by Anonymousreply 34March 24, 2021 5:58 AM

I had to take it for ten days or so after I had an appendectomy on the advice of the surgeon. All I remember is the never ending nausea and this horrible metallic taste in my mouth. I chewed gum all day to try and take the taste away. I eventually started to freak out thinking I would never get rid of that horrible taste and finally stopped taking it after three days. It was vile.

by Anonymousreply 35March 24, 2021 6:35 AM

Two words for OP: fecal transplant.

by Anonymousreply 36March 24, 2021 7:10 AM

The weird thing is I don’t have the metallic taste in my mouth. I have nausea, dizziness, dark urine & blurry vision, but my mouth tastes normal.

by Anonymousreply 37March 25, 2021 4:50 AM

You smell metallic. All the old alkies smelled of Metronidazole. When you talk you smell like you've been licking dirty lampposts. More like you swallowed sour radiotive ingots. No gum or mouthwash can disguise it. But you can freshen it up a bit R37. Trust me you smell metallic, from deep inside.

by Anonymousreply 38March 25, 2021 4:56 AM

[quote] You could always go to an urgent care center in the morning and explain you aren't doing well with the Flagyl and ask for Vancomycin, as that is the first line of treatment doctors are supposed to use for this infection.. I wouldn't mess around with Flagyl.

You "wouldn't mess around with"

That's hilarious

You got your MD from Google

by Anonymousreply 39March 27, 2021 10:56 PM

Doctor gave it to me back in the day after a bout with chlamydia. Had to stop after 3 days, because I was slowly going borderline psychotic. Dark, vivid nightmares, my thoughts racing 100 mph, etc. etc. etc.

Nasty, nasty shit.

by Anonymousreply 40March 27, 2021 11:02 PM

I was prescribed it once for licking ass. Maybe twice....

by Anonymousreply 41March 27, 2021 11:06 PM

Hell, I was so sick with ulcerative colitis and then developed diverticulitis about 6 months after my partner died I had to take it for five days. And I didn't leave LA, eat anything weird and was essentially celibate for 2 years. Can happen to anyone and it was a harsh medication. Didn't get anything from rimming for years with him and then, celibate, got it. Doctor thought that the recall on some lettuce I ate may have been the culprit because a lot of people got sick and Trader Joe's and Ralph's pulled it off their shelves for 2 months. It was a statewide recall.

by Anonymousreply 42March 27, 2021 11:54 PM

Oh god, now my cat is dying. I feel like I can’t fucking this anymore. First an abscess, the surgery, then my birds die when I’m in hospital, then I get C diff, now I’m sick from this drug and after the 3rd fucking time I took my cat to the vet telling them “she’s losing too much weight” and them saying “Her bloodwork is ok,” she’s now dying from probable lymphoma. I covered her with a blanket. I don’t know if she’ll make it through the night. She’s been puking since yesterday & hasn’t eaten anything.

I thought maybe once 2020 ended things would get better, but it’s just getting worse. Everybody & everything is going bad....

by Anonymousreply 43March 29, 2021 1:25 AM

A flagel, however, is very delicious though you should not be eating one during Passover

by Anonymousreply 44March 29, 2021 1:28 AM

R43. I am so sorry. This seems like far too much to deal with and I'm sure you feel very unwell. Don't give up. Some of us are far too alone during this time. You must let your cat go and not leave her to die in distress. I assume you are waiting for test results. If they are bad, hold her tight and let her go.

I don't believe in voodoo or juju or jesus. But please take Align Probiotics. No other brand. They will help with your healing over time. Stay on them. C diff can be a long haul, but you need better advice and more regular check ins than we get during COVID. Please access one of the distress lines and don't be afraid to double doctor. They're all virtual anyway. See if one can give you something to escape....to sleep. A short term script for Zopiclone or Trazodone. They are not benzos but really knock you out. Only for 4 or 5 hours. But gone. You'll get physical and mental rest. Stay hydrated and move around a bit. Inside the house.

I don't like it when people give too much advice, so I apologize. I want you to know that you've been heard. I care as much as a stranger can. That's a lot. Your particular problems are not my own, but I've been through a medical pileup and I mean a big one that lasted for almost a year. With a deep personal loss in the middle of my long recovery. It seemed pointless to continue. Go on anyway. Don't let your cat suffer needlessly. Get some help for your emotional distress. Take the probiotic - it's not yogurt. It WILL help some. Align, Digestive Support.

I'm so sorry you are suffering these things. You don't have to be strong. Just tell yourself that you're gonna be alright. Especially at the hardest times. I find that to be the best mantra. If it's wrong, you lied. ❤️

by Anonymousreply 45March 29, 2021 2:15 AM

Thank you, R45. I feel like I’m going downhill faster & faster.

by Anonymousreply 46March 29, 2021 2:37 AM

Ass eaters take Flagyl

by Anonymousreply 47March 29, 2021 2:52 AM

Sorry you are going through so much, OP. How long until you are done with the Flagyl?

by Anonymousreply 48March 29, 2021 2:52 AM

Tonight is my last dose.

I’m afraid the C diff will start up again after it wears off.

I thought I wouldn’t get C diff because I was getting IV Vanco in the hospital. I thought since Vanco was a treatment for C diff, it would prevent me from getting it. And I was doing fine until that fucking barium. I felt “This is good, I took the barium,, they’re taking me to the OR today, they’ll operate on me, fix my abscess & hernia and I’ll be fine. They’ll finish up my antibiotics & I’ll go home. Everyone said my wound was healing so well. Then ....diarrhea

by Anonymousreply 49March 29, 2021 3:38 AM

Take the probiotics R49. Avoid fatty foods for at least a week but do eat protein. Take one diluted tablespoon of apple cider vinegar a day. (not before you're off Flagyl) An hour after a meal. Eat some easily digestible fibre - crackers, dry toast, oatmeal. Avoid most dairy. Do have canned fruit with sugar. NO NUTS or VEGETABLES. Give it time, your body will heal. Coffee as tolerated. No more than 2.

by Anonymousreply 50March 30, 2021 12:41 AM

Good news

Finished Flagyl

Bad news

Diarrhea back.

I’ve been eating yogurt, BRAT, & taking probiotics but I’ll have to see an ID specialist no doubt to get Vanco prescribed. Fuck that barium. I had no problem being on antibiotics. It was the barium that started this......shit. I’m taking Imodium, I don’t care. I can’t shit 10x a day.

by Anonymousreply 51March 31, 2021 1:26 AM

I told people to avoid barium and iodine contrasts. Now it's your duty to do the same R51. Give it a few more days before you completely freak out. 10 times a day is better than 40. The intestinal system is extremely fragile after this kind of damage. And it's painful and humiliating to spend your days this way. You ARE going to recover from this, but should always be careful. That doesn't mean don't eat or drink. Alcohol can actually turn down the immune response in the G.I. tract. An allergy pill would not be a bad idea either. I've given you good advice so far. You should stop complaining quite so much. You are scared perhaps. You've been off Flagyl for all of 2 days? Give it a bit of time before you imagine the worst. Stay away from Dr. Google. I'm a bit more qualified. 😉

by Anonymousreply 52March 31, 2021 1:36 AM

Also, I’ve taken my cat twice to the vet they keep treating her & didn’t think she was in bad shape. She stopped eating & drinking. They gave her fluids, a steroid shot & anti nausea. But tonight she’s very bad. My husband will call vet in morning for emergency visit. I am so discouraged by this shutdown. Cant see vets in person ...it’s different.

by Anonymousreply 53March 31, 2021 1:43 AM

r51 Sorry to hear it. You want to be careful with the Immodium, try taking 4 Florastor a day as that will help with the diarrhea. I had C. Diff in December and was successfully treated with Vancomycin, then it never came back despite having surgery last month and being given IV Levaquin. I believe it's because I've been taking Florastor. I also take a probiotic called Megasporebiotic.

C. Diff is a bitch, but you will get ahead of it eventually and be okay. I remember I was so sick that I was certain I would die, I lost a ton of weight, but then I got better. I had some diarrhea after my surgery and freaked out, but luckily it resolved pretty quickly. I still freak out when I think it could come back. Make sure you bleach your bathroom and close the lid on your toilet.

by Anonymousreply 54March 31, 2021 1:46 AM

It's pure poison. I agree with you OP, it's a shit drug. Unfortunately been there-done that.

by Anonymousreply 55March 31, 2021 1:58 AM

I'm going to say it one more time. Saccharomyces boulardii is a relatively inexpensive supplement made from the skin of a tropical fruit that contains a special yeast that is active against c diff.. It can't hurt and would probably help you. I see now that is one of the ingredients of florastor, so that aligns with the advice of one of the other posters.

by Anonymousreply 56March 31, 2021 6:33 AM

It's sometimes used in combination with Cipro. Now THAT is a shitty drug. If you are prescribed Cipro, ask why and then find out if there is any alternative to taking such an intense drug. It fucked me up pretty good.
