Forgotten news stories that you remember
The suicide of Paula Abdul's stalker has always stayed with me for some reason. The whole tale was so sordid. She had stalked Abdul since adolescence, changed her name to "Paula," and even auditioned for American Idol.
What stories have stayed with you?

This reminded me of Alexis Cohen, another AI trainwreck who unsuccessfully auditioned in 2008 and 2009 and was subsequently killed by a hit-and-run driver.

I remember the news when Cohen died. I felt sad for her. She was a likeable woman who deserved better.
Details about Alexis’ death:
“Cohen lived in Allentown, Pennsylvania with her mother, Mindy Dallow.[14][13]
In July 2009, Cohen was struck by a hit and run driver in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Her body was found by two passersby along a road about 4 a.m. Paramedics performed lifesaving efforts before they arrived with Cohen at Community Medical Center in Toms River, N.J., where she was pronounced dead at 6:35 a.m.[13]
Daniel Bark, aged 27,[15] was later arrested and indicted for drunk and reckless driving, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of an accident.[16][17][18] Authorities later reported that Bark, who had a previous 2004 DUI conviction, was fleeing police when he struck and killed Cohen after failing to stop when a bicycle patrol officer ordered him to do so.[19] Bark in November 2011 accepted a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to eluding police and drunk driving. Prosecutors dismissed manslaughter and other charges in the deadly traffic accident. A judge had quashed Bark's confession because police failed to advise him of his rights.[20]”

Here's another one that's stayed with me: Christina Corrigan's death.
She was a 13-year-old who died in squalid conditions. At almost 700 lbs, she spent the last months of her life living in front of the television set, covered in sores, surrounded by human waste and food wrappers.
I was probably in middle school when I read about her death in the local paper. (It made national news.) I remember thinking, "What a fucking awful way to live and die."
