Years ago, black spring break was in Atlanta and it was called "Freaknic."

It was a fucking nightmare. It was impossible to get anywhere as crowds of people were walking in the middle of all the major roads.

I had a house on the park and we had hundreds of people on our porch and backyard. There was piss everywhere. One of my neighbors make the mistake of thinking she could drive somewhere. Her car was surrounded and the crowd started rocking it back and forth. She was screaming. I called the police and they said they couldn't get there. Then, someone shot a gun in the park and people were running out the park. And pounding on our doors and windows to get in the house.

My friends that flew to South Beach yesterday are eating an early dinner and have bought booze for the room since they have an 8pm curfew. Sad.

The hotels shouldn't book students. The airlines shouldn't have flown them. Their colleges should have told them they can't take spring break in party resorts. Frankly they should be on campus until May. That's it. Why were they allowed to travel? II thought this was all controlled for a year. You can come back to campus but there are strict rules.

I remember being 20 and partying and fucking were not my priority. But then again, I had already been living on my own for 2 years by then and paying my own way for college so I wasn't about to screw that up. If I had been living during a pandemic, I would have followed the rules because I have empathy. It's something that is lacking in EVERYONE these days.

I live in Florida and I have no idea why this is even news. It happens every year! Black Beach and Freaknic have been around for what seems like over 30 years now and the people know it can be mayhem. They had huge police force in Miami Beach in 2018 and 2019 and it worked. They let their guard down because COVID was supposed to keep people away. As long as the beach is open, you need law enforcement everywhere during Spring Break.
