Will there ever be a biopic of Prince?

He was so private—to the point of secretive. I know so little about him. Will anyone ever be willing to talk? He was a big fucking deal to us in Generation X.

by Anonymousreply 43March 23, 2021 1:56 PM

Only if it stars Timmy Chalamet.

by Anonymousreply 1March 21, 2021 1:22 AM

Jussie Smollett IS Prince

by Anonymousreply 2March 21, 2021 1:23 AM

This will be my Best Actor Oscar*

I miss him. Sigh.

by Anonymousreply 4March 21, 2021 1:33 AM

I can't picture this but I'm sure Prince's greedy family will find a way. Sheila E. is working on her biopic about meeting Prince.

Who will play Vanity? It better not be Zoe Kravitz or Zendaya.

by Anonymousreply 5March 21, 2021 1:35 AM

There already was, OP, it's called "Purple Rain"

by Anonymousreply 6March 21, 2021 1:37 AM

Purple Rain was a cool movie. It wasn't really about Prince though but it was sort of worked as a foundation myth to his otherworldly persona. Prince admitted Purple Rain was just a way to market himself. It was the Flashdance effect.

It would be cool to see a movie about the real Prince Rogers Nelson. How he formed his band and built up a following, his beef with Rick James and Morris Day, his relationships with Vanity, Mayte and Mani, his child's death, finding Jehovah Witness religion late in his life, his many proteges, his infamous battle with Warner Bros and becoming a recluse in his final days who withdrew most of his music from the internet.

by Anonymousreply 7March 21, 2021 1:49 AM

It will be a decade or more before we see something like this. Look how long it took for the Freddie Mercury/Queen biopic to come out. And Elton John's.

by Anonymousreply 8March 21, 2021 1:51 AM

Thank you R7. That is just the way I feel.

by Anonymousreply 9March 21, 2021 3:51 AM

I’m a huge Prince fan but since his death I’ve read books by Maite, Sheila and Morris Day and was really disappointed to read how he treated them, especially Maite.

by Anonymousreply 10March 21, 2021 4:32 AM

Hopefully not. Biopics are usually dull. Prince was not dull.

by Anonymousreply 11March 21, 2021 6:56 AM

Who plays him?

by Anonymousreply 12March 21, 2021 7:15 AM

There was supposed to be a documentary directed by Ava DuVernay but she left the project because of "creative differences", which is code for Ava DuVernay is a cunt, and the Estate most likely (and wisely) realized she would try to hog the spotlight as she always does.

Not sure what's happening with it now. Hopefully someone like Spike Lee takes over.

Back in the early 90s when Glam Slam was still around in Minneapolis, he used to show up there. He frequently had after parties at Paisley Park and I went to a few of those. My ex used to work for Prince in video production. So I was around Prince a bit and around people who were with him a lot. He was just as elusive in person as he was in public. He would never speak to anyone directly, only through his bodyguard or whichever lackey he had with him. Everyone had to call him Boss. I remember ex coming home and telling me all about his weird work days with Boss and we would laugh and laugh.

Prince wasn't particularly abusive (he could be pretty temperamental), he was just sort of above it all, but still wanted it around him. My parents live hear Paisley Park and my mom always hoped that Prince would come door knocking on her door (he was a Jehovah's Witness). He never did. :)

by Anonymousreply 14March 21, 2021 8:19 AM

No. We are getting past the Golden Age of celebrity and film, opera and recording celebrities. Youtubers, Instahos and Tik-Tokkers are the new medium stars.

by Anonymousreply 15March 21, 2021 8:46 AM

It's pronounced BIO-pick!!!!!

As in BIO-graphical PICture = Bio pic.

You fuckin' hollywood tards!

by Anonymousreply 16March 21, 2021 8:47 AM

R5 there's no one pretty enough to play her, at least no one famous

by Anonymousreply 17March 21, 2021 10:03 AM

I don't think I would want to see something like this, to be honest. Name an actor that could play him - look like him, dance like him in heels (doing splits), and such...

A more up to date documentary with interviews from his former colleagues and rare footage would be awesome though. Something along the lines of the "Prince of Paisley Park" documentary.

Not sure how that would come together though, since some of them can't stand each other these days.

I would love to see a movie about Prince the musician, but I don't want to know anything about Prince the person. I don't think it will be very flattering, probably rather disturbing.

by Anonymousreply 19March 21, 2021 11:49 AM

This is an amusing read.

Prince was a mean person and a homophobe

by Anonymousreply 21March 21, 2021 12:00 PM

He was incredibly controlling and had issues with self esteem and such. He’s always been pretty open about that in his lyrics and even in Purple Rain. But plenty of people loved him in his life —including Wendy and Lisa who he abruptly dumped when he wanted to go in a different creative direction—despite his flaws.

by Anonymousreply 22March 21, 2021 12:09 PM

Sheila E, Mayte and Apollonia are all clearly still in love with him. I do think Prince was obsessed with Vanity and couldn't get over her leaving him. Almost all of his relationships after were with women who looked like her including Mayte and Mani. But he could control them unlike Vanity who didn't take shit from him

by Anonymousreply 23March 21, 2021 12:14 PM

And I think Purple Rain actually could have made Vanity a bigger star if she agreed to do it. Apollonia had no charisma and was a weak link. Vanity would have stolen the show along with Morris Day.

I also heard Jennifer Beals was also considered for the role but I cant picture her being a love interest for Prince.

by Anonymousreply 24March 21, 2021 12:16 PM

Apollonia basically outed Sheila on FB, while complaining about her handling of the Grammy tribute to him - making it all about her instead. She even stated that Prince would refer to her as a "he/she". It's been long rumored that Sheila has been in a relationship with her (female) manager for decades. What also set her off was when Sheila released a song called "Lemon Cake". Apparently Prince would always have his bandmates bake him a lemon cake.

by Anonymousreply 25March 21, 2021 12:24 PM

Apollonia may have truth to what she's saying but she just sounds jealous, angry and bitter. Apple had no career after Purple Rain because she has no talent. Sheila is a talented musician and that's why she is still in the spotlight. Sheila was in the industry before she met Prince and Prince respected her talent. Apples only became famous because of being in a movie with Prince

by Anonymousreply 26March 21, 2021 12:29 PM

I agree that maybe just biographical footage with interviews might be a more interesting way to go. Prince would be extremely difficult to cast—but the role of a lifetime. He was so magnetic, sexy and elusive. No other performer is like him. I am not surprised to read the negative posts about him on this thread. While a genius, he was obviously difficult and a drug addict.

by Anonymousreply 27March 21, 2021 2:27 PM

It blows me away that he played all 27 instruments on his first album—at 20 years old.

Madonna will likely be a feature Prince in her biopic. She was another admirer of him. You can see the influence of Prince on her 90s stuff and Prince mocked her cover of "I Want You".

If Janet ever made one then Prince would also be in it since he was the major influence on Control which was a Minneapolis sound R&B album produced his former bandmates Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.

by Anonymousreply 30March 21, 2021 10:46 PM

I couldn't respect him anymore when he got so heavily into Jehovah's Witnesses. Or maybe he always was and I just didn't know about it.

Just another dimwit nut with a lot of fame and money. Maybe Sinead was right.

by Anonymousreply 31March 21, 2021 11:02 PM

I remember reading that somebody got into his "vault" of tapes - and it was a lot of him doing Billy Joel covers.

One of the few musicians who's death really saddened me. I always thought him way more talented than Micheal Jackson.Prince was always way ahead of his time musically. Id have loved to have seen what he came up with in the future, but alas we'll never know now.

by Anonymousreply 34March 21, 2021 11:36 PM

I wonder if any project will cover the early years and his love for young black boy butt?

by Anonymousreply 35March 21, 2021 11:57 PM

I don’t think anyone really knew him

by Anonymousreply 36March 22, 2021 12:47 PM

I laughed when I read about Jacko calling Prince a meanie. I can actually picture it, Jacko sounding like a prissy seven-year-old girl and calling someone a meanie.

by Anonymousreply 37March 22, 2021 1:15 PM

I dated Prince’s make up man in the late 80s. Nice guy. Incredible hair. He was always on call. Only had nice things to say about the Purple One.

by Anonymousreply 38March 22, 2021 1:29 PM

There’s already a Netflix biopic in the making.

Prince opened for The Rolling Stones in some cities on their 1981 American Tour. It was in either LA or San Francisco where he was booed off the stage. That's gotta hurt, 80K people booing at you. My cousin has a friend who did some kind of contract work on, I believe it was Paisley Park. The friend said Prince was very soft spoken, and praised his work, and gave him a bottle of wine as a part gift. That changed my opinion of him being an ice queen.

by Anonymousreply 40March 22, 2021 2:06 PM

I miss this guy so much. I try to get to Paisley Park once a year. I think Vic Mensa could do the younger Prince.
