Why don’t we import more Brits like James O’Brien instead of idiots like Pierce Morgan?
I really like listening to O’Brien, he’s smart, knowledgeable and measured in his approach and dissects societal issues with a scalpel.
His voice of reason is much needed and under appreciated. But instead of O’Brien we get people like Morgan and and Osbourne to make our society even more toxic.

I wonder if people are just too far gone and all that matters is just mindless entertainment at this point? Being loud and controversial seems to buy you things these days, while people who are actually smart go mostly unnoticed. It's not about always agreeing with someone, but the ability to have a measured conversation that is based on truth and logic.

James O'Brien is a smug posh twat. He's actually very similar to Piers Morgan - both think they have absolute moral superiority over the people who disagree with them.
He's also insincere - after he went "viral" for joining in the attacks on JK Rowling he then tried to backtrack and suggested trans women with penises didn't shouldn't be allowed in women's changing rooms.
His attack on Frank Lampard was especially nasty.

R8, there was nothing "nasty" about his conversation with Lampard and everybody can look at the transcript or listen to the interview for which O'Brien received an award.
He's very different from Morgan and offers facts to support his opinions.

James O'Brien is way too measured and intellectual and low-key for the U.S.
My own fave rave UK commentator is my man Phil Moorehouse, a physics instructor who does political podcasts out of his home. An illustration that being an independent broadcaster completely unaffiliated with traditional media can have its advantages.

I dove down a James O’Brien YouTube rabbit hole over a Christmas when I was reading about customs at Calais. A lorry driver who is a regular caller made for very sober listening.
I like that O’Brien gives his callers enough rope.
The call from a English football fan who boos the team and claimed his Aunty was killed in a BLM protest needs to be heard to be believed.

R8 THANK YOU it was so needlessly agg. Lampsy is a lovely fella not prone to conflict, there was no call to come at him that way.
Mind you, Americans in general don’t care much for or about our football players, besides Becks (cheers for lending us Pulisic btw, though we don’t really need him). You had Stevie G. & Lamps over with you at the same time and nobody cared? Staggering.
Suppose that’s fair enough, though, given I wouldn’t know who Aaron Rodgers was if he came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder, and it would mean nothing to me.

We should stop importing foreigners altogether! The left's obsession with Brits/Europeans is embarrassing to us moderates. The conservatives, who are the most patriotic, think you're downright traitors for bypassing local American talent. I'm afraid, they're not far off. The liberals (who control the U.S. media/entertainment industry) are proving to love foreigners more than their fellow Americans.

Have you heard of The Jeremy Kyle Show? James O'Brien is basically the radio version of that. They actively seek out people with stupid views, get them wound up and invite them on so the Morally Superior James O'Brien can lecture them and show what a sane and balanced Morally Superior guy he is.
LBC are an appalling broadcaster. They deliberately stoke controversy in the hope they go viral. It's nothing to do with journalism or letting the public have their voices heard, it's all about increasing advertising revenue by getting issues trending so people watch the videos on YouTube or the Twitter clips.
LBC have been letting Maajid Nawaz spread conspiracy theories about vaccines since the pandemic started. Iain Dale, another LBC presenter, criticised the stance, and Nawaz was finally dropped yesterday. But now he's a martyr for the anti vax Covid hoax brigade, an out of control fire LBC have stoked.

I would have thought after Milo Donkeyteefs and Boris Johnson becoming Prime Minister and Brexit and Megan Markle and Prince Albert and about ten thousand other fucking things that "listening the the Brits" was analogous in America to "Sticking a hat full of rotting shit over your head and pulling it down brim-level with your neck".
Fuck them.

Milo is relatively unknown in the UK.
He was a beneficiary of the BBC and other broadcasters decision to give dickheads with opinions the chance to appear on tv discussing things like "Has Britain become hostile to blokes?".
After her reality tv gigs Katie Hopkins forged a new career on This Morning having offering hot takes on fat people and children with common names.
And celebrity racist Ash Sarkar moved from Twitter to tv after her "I'm literally a communist you idiot" conversation with Piers Morgan. Now she appears on Jeremy Vine regularly to offer her hot takes on whether tall people should be pay more for trousers or should dogs be fitted with solar panel collars to generate electricity when they're being walked.

R27, the point isn't whether Milo is known in the UK. The point is that his entire US career hung off one thing: his fucking accent. Which isn't even upper-middle-class.
I put Brits in America into two categories: jobbing actors and the rest of them. The actors can stay. The rest of them are to be removed with tongs.

She's done a lot to raise the issue of food poverty and done a lot to help those in need but she is utterly sanctimonious. Her comments about David Cameron and his disabled child dying were disgusting and she rightly got briefly cancelled for it.
What still makes me laugh about the Katie Hopkins case is that Hopkins confused Jack Monroe for fellow left wing opinionist Laurie Penny. Imagine being such a horrible person that being mistaken for you is libellous!
The other thing that's funny about Monroe is when Britain went into lockdown Channel 4 announced a cooking show with Jamie Oliver where he cooked with basic ingredients. A lot of people got VERY offended that Oliver - a well known chef with 4 decades of broadcasting experience - was presenting and not Monroe. After a bit of moaning the BBC announced Monroe would host a segment on their Saturday Kitchen show. Monroe is not an experienced tv cook and it showed - it was awful broadcasting and she quickly disappeared.

Actually what he said about trans issues isn’t that controversial and are quiet sensible: he doesn’t believe in trans people should be discriminated against but when it comes to change rooms and sport there obvious differences that need to be acknowledged and acknowledging them doesn’t equal bigotry.
Moreover, regarding “cancel culture”: he told Piers Morgan that in real terms, the only way unisex emojis and bloggers discussing the possibility of a female James Bond - which are the examples Morgan cited - are not proof that “wokeness” or “cancel culture” has taken over. But James O’Brien said that trans ARE the issue that has rendered discussion about change rooms, men in womens sports and in womens prisons Bull because it has support from all sides of the political spectrum, left and right.
