R41, the driver says that he asked her to put on a mask per Uber's policy and she refused, so he said the group would have to leave the car and he was going to let them out at the place where he'd picked them up. The video shows them shrieking that the driver planned to strand them on the freeway, then commencing the verbal and physical attack on him.

In court, I'll bet they claim self-defense against being abandoned on the freeway in the middle of the night.

Not to sound racist, but this story was told to me by a cab driver here in Romania. He told me that he has no issues picking up any foreign exchange students, because Africans and Asians are super well-behaved. He said he misses every foreigner who worked in the international companies pre-COVID because they were civilized, but will not pick up Arabic women (there are a lot of Syrians and Palestinians here who went to college and stayed here and brought over their wives and had daughters). I said "isn't that discriminating?" and he said yeah, technically the law doesn't allow them to refuse so when they see them coming, they just drive away.
