Getting a dog to sleep outside

Why is it such a battle?

by Anonymousreply 39March 19, 2021 1:10 AM

Because they’re pack animals and want to be with their pack i.e. you. Don’t have a dog if you’re going to make it sleep outside/in a kennel, unless you’re sleeping out there with it.

by Anonymousreply 1March 17, 2021 4:29 AM

I hate you OP, stab yourself in the eye with a screwdriver.

by Anonymousreply 2March 17, 2021 5:02 AM

Fuck you, OP.

Hicks, man. 😒

by Anonymousreply 3March 17, 2021 5:05 AM

Because dogs are interested in shit, you are one and your dog wants to be near you.

by Anonymousreply 4March 17, 2021 5:07 AM

R2 = psycho cunt

by Anonymousreply 5March 17, 2021 5:19 AM

It's actually healthier for dogs to sleep outdoors - our heated homes are far too hot for furry animals, especially northern breed dogs (like Huskies) with long fur. However, sending a single dog to sleep outdoors is cruel. As many are saying, dogs are pack animals. Two outside together in a roomy doghouse would be fine. One by himself would be miserable. One solution would be to have a sleeping porch right outside your bedroom, .with open or screened windows for the dog to sleep.

Good kenned with dry bedding and a bone.

Simple as that.

As for the rest of you idiots.....a dog does NOT BELONG IN THE HOUSE.

R7 How weird that you missed the point of the article you posted. Having a dog in your home is good for you. Also, if you don't like having dogs in your home why adopt in the first place?

by Anonymousreply 8March 17, 2021 7:11 AM

Adopt? And I never said that dogs are bad for you.

Dogs can wander in and out during the day but they eat and sleep outside.

by Anonymousreply 9March 17, 2021 7:17 AM

Probably an inconsiderate idiot who'll ignore his barking dog all day and night. Unless you live far out in the country, please don't bother getting a dog.

by Anonymousreply 10March 17, 2021 7:24 AM

OP, how the fuck would you feel if your parents had made your ass sleep outside the damn cold?

by Anonymousreply 11March 17, 2021 7:31 AM

Getting OP to sleep outside. Why is it such a battle?

by Anonymousreply 12March 17, 2021 7:32 AM

Why do you even have a dog?

Get a lawn jockey, that would seem to fit your personality better, OP.

by Anonymousreply 13March 17, 2021 7:39 AM

A dog a woman a walnut tree, the more you beat the better they be.

by Anonymousreply 14March 17, 2021 8:00 PM

Only outside with other dogs. Never alone.

by Anonymousreply 15March 17, 2021 8:06 PM

Both of our dogs cuddle right in with us in bed every night. Wouldn't have it any other way!

by Anonymousreply 16March 17, 2021 9:43 PM

R11 because dogs and human children aren't the same?

by Anonymousreply 17March 17, 2021 10:20 PM

Fucking rednecks are the only people I ever see who keep their dog outside. MY idiot neighbor did that with a small dog in her fenced yard. The meter reader left the gate ajar and that poor dog got out and was hit by a car. If you're such a pussy germaphobe like Trump--don't get a dog! R6 I hope a pit bull bites you on your fat ass!

by Anonymousreply 18March 17, 2021 11:11 PM

OP is Fred Flintstone.

by Anonymousreply 19March 17, 2021 11:13 PM

I guess I'm a redneck because I grew up with outdoor dogs. Never took them to the vet for checkups.

If I were to get a dog now, that dog would be an *indoors* dog with lots of TLC from me!

by Anonymousreply 20March 17, 2021 11:18 PM

I grew up in Buffalo. A friend of mine had a toy poodle who stayed outside at all times. Chained to a doghouse. Outside. 25 feet from the house. In Buffalo. In winter.

I look back at myself and ashamed I never did anything about that.

by Anonymousreply 21March 17, 2021 11:37 PM

We had a big poodle and moved from a suburban house to a farm in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by coyotes, mountain lions, bobcats, etc. My parents insisted he sleep outside. One night it was storming and there was lightning and thunder and poor Shaggy was PANICKED outside, jumping up at the windows to be let in. But my parents said he had to learn to live with it. Never saw him again. Don't know what got him, but his end must have been gruesome. Had a real hard time forgiving my parents for that.

by Anonymousreply 22March 17, 2021 11:47 PM

Basements and enclosed porches are a dog’s friend. They see you to bed, then wander down to where it’s cooler, and then wake you up in the morning. Unless you have a dachshund; they’re snuggle buddies.

by Anonymousreply 23March 17, 2021 11:48 PM

[quote] Unless you have a dachshund; they’re snuggle buddies.

Dachshunds don't snuggle?

by Anonymousreply 24March 17, 2021 11:56 PM

[quote]I hate you OP, stab yourself in the eye with a screwdriver.

I’m not OP, but you do know that ALL animals are actually naturally meant to be outside, don’t you?🙄 It’s called their natural habitat.

by Anonymousreply 25March 17, 2021 11:57 PM

Some animals (dogs) really seem to prefer being indoors. My brother had a huge Labrador that would go outside to "use the bathroom" but would hurry back inside right afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 26March 18, 2021 12:00 AM

[quote][R7] How weird that you missed the point of the article you posted. Having a dog in your home is good for you.

That's not weird, it's typical — for a troll like R7.

by Anonymousreply 27March 18, 2021 12:15 AM

R25, What about the word "domesticated" eludes you?

by Anonymousreply 28March 18, 2021 12:31 AM

R22: that’s horrific! I don’t think I’d ever have been able to forgive my parents for that. Were they remorseful at least? The poor dog.

by Anonymousreply 29March 18, 2021 1:21 AM

R28, domesticated cattle don't sleep at the foot of the bed just because they are domesticated.

by Anonymousreply 30March 18, 2021 1:22 AM

R29 - well, my mother certainly felt guilty and she did canvass the neighborhood looking for him. But we're on the edge of a river and he was undoubtedly carried off by the wild animals.

by Anonymousreply 31March 18, 2021 2:54 AM

Would you want to sleep outside, OP?

by Anonymousreply 32March 18, 2021 2:55 AM

R25,

Many dogs have been selectively bred for various traits that the idea that outdoors is the "natural habitat" for them is farcical, as there is nothing really natural about them. Moreover, we humans now transport dogs far away from what might well be their "natural habitat", something they have no control over. Imagine a chihuahua or a greyhound in Alaska in February, or a Siberian Husky in Florida.

by Anonymousreply 33March 18, 2021 6:58 AM

OP I hope you get ripped to shreds by a pack of dogs forced to live outside.

by Anonymousreply 34March 18, 2021 7:08 AM

Don’t, let’s go to the dogs tonight!

by Anonymousreply 35March 18, 2021 7:17 AM

R30, A distinction is made between "domesticated--farm animals" and "domesticated--pets." [See: Wikipedia]

The former are for working farms and eating; the latter for the most part are not.

IOW, a poodle is not the same as a cow.

by Anonymousreply 36March 18, 2021 4:32 PM

Think of the poor dog Mitt Romney put in a kennel and strapped to the roof of the car for a family vacation trip. Poor thing terror shit so much it was coming down the windows. Mitt just hosed it off and kept driving.

by Anonymousreply 37March 18, 2021 11:30 PM

You try sleeping outside while the dog sleeps inside, maybe then you will understand.

by Anonymousreply 38March 19, 2021 1:10 AM

Because it's cruel to leave the dog outside. And it's cold.
