Fred Savage passes his “The Wonder Years” torch down to the reboots new star

Awwww he seems so excited for this young man. I am too. But I doubt this new series will touch the original in quality.

When did Fred Savage turn into Mandy Patinkin?

by Anonymousreply 1March 16, 2021 10:52 PM

I’ll stick with Everybody Hates Chris.

by Anonymousreply 2March 16, 2021 10:52 PM

I was hoping for an all-trans cast.

by Anonymousreply 3March 17, 2021 12:54 AM

Gee, I'm shocked!

by Anonymousreply 4March 17, 2021 1:11 AM

I am waiting for the reboot of Fat Albert that will be called " Plus Siized Al " Starring Chrissy Metz as plus sized non binary entity working in Baltimore Maryland as a spiritual cleanser and home staging expert .

by Anonymousreply 5March 17, 2021 1:11 AM

Let's Blackerize everything!

by Anonymousreply 6March 17, 2021 2:00 AM

I'm looking forward to, "Leave It to Vagina. Its Called 'Vagina'. Not 'Pussy'. Or 'Kooter'. Or 'Beaver'"

by Anonymousreply 7March 17, 2021 2:47 AM

Is Elisha a he or she? No, I’m not reading the article.

by Anonymousreply 8March 17, 2021 3:02 AM

HUSKY Fred Savage is a GAY boy.

by Anonymousreply 9March 17, 2021 3:04 AM

R5 i would watch that.

by Anonymousreply 10March 17, 2021 6:26 AM

Fred is still hot.

by Anonymousreply 11March 17, 2021 7:00 AM

Don Cheadle will narrate.

The Wonder Yaaaaas!

by Anonymousreply 13March 26, 2021 7:07 PM

If she's got this, means she'll stop trying to make me cast her as Samantha, right?

by Anonymousreply 14March 26, 2021 7:08 PM

Will Kevin make a cameo?

by Anonymousreply 15March 26, 2021 7:11 PM

We already had a black Wonder Years. It was called Everybody Hates Chris.

Create new opportunities for black people...no need to patronize them by blackifying old stories.

by Anonymousreply 16March 26, 2021 7:19 PM

This is getting tedious and the backlash will come in form of cancellation.

by Anonymousreply 17March 26, 2021 7:28 PM

Another tacky oversight in Hollywood's attempt to congratulate itself for diversity. Will Jay-Z do a remix of "With a Little Help from My Friends"?

by Anonymousreply 18March 26, 2021 8:16 PM

Ummmm r16 they aren’t blackifying an old story. They’re telling a new one. This isn’t about Kevin.

by Anonymousreply 19March 26, 2021 8:18 PM

[quote]I’ll stick with Everybody Hates Chris.

I'll wait for the Asian version.

by Anonymousreply 20March 26, 2021 9:21 PM

"The Walton's is next. It's now "The Washingtons", about the only black family in 1930's rural West Virginia. Willow Smith stars as the sensitive young writer Jonetta, documenting it all.

by Anonymousreply 21March 26, 2021 10:45 PM

Black Beaver!

by Anonymousreply 22March 26, 2021 10:46 PM

Black Dennis the Menace!

by Anonymousreply 23March 26, 2021 10:47 PM

Comedy Central should make a white version of The Jeffersons or Good Times, just to troll people.

by Anonymousreply 24March 26, 2021 10:50 PM

Can we get a Black reboot of Maude, starring Mo'Nique as Maude. Vivian to be played by Laverne Cox, because trans and black!

by Anonymousreply 25March 26, 2021 10:50 PM

That would cause such chaos, R24.

by Anonymousreply 26March 26, 2021 10:51 PM

Arent black people offended that they arent allowed to tell their own stories? They take an old story and just put black leads in there ?

by Anonymousreply 27March 26, 2021 11:06 PM

Can we have a series called Roots with white people playing the slave roles?

by Anonymousreply 28March 26, 2021 11:10 PM

I knew this would trigger the racists. If this gets your blood pressure up, you live a pampered life and have lost touch. WHO CARES YOU FREAKS!

by Anonymousreply 29March 26, 2021 11:11 PM

I find some of the parody up thread pretty amusing, but truth be told, well told, this could be very moving and powerful too. I look forward to it.

by Anonymousreply 30March 26, 2021 11:13 PM

Why couldn’t he he gay instead of Black, we don’t have any of these flashback series built around young gays?

by Anonymousreply 31March 26, 2021 11:16 PM

[quote]We already had a black Wonder Years. It was called Everybody Hates Chris.

Nah. Everybody Hates Chris was Chris Rock making fun of his own life. It was a comedy. It was Everybody Loves Raymond but about a black child and his family.

The Wonder Years was serious business about growing up.

This one might be better than the original taking place in Alabama in the late 60s. Woo, the things this family will go through!

Since Fred Savage is directing it and is one of the producers I wish them all the best.

[quote]Create new opportunities for black people...no need to patronize them by blackifying old stories.

You just said, "create new opportunities for black people .... but no not like that."

The only thing this series has in common with the original is the title. Otherwise it's giving an entire cast of actors new opportunities.

This is a new story.

[quote]Can we have a series called Roots with white people playing the slave roles?

This literally makes no sense in relation to The Wonder Years. You're just writing words. You're writing words that have little meaning.

[quote]I knew this would trigger the racists. If this gets your blood pressure up, you live a pampered life and have lost touch. WHO CARES YOU FREAKS!

Thank goodness it will go on no matter what anyone here says. I remember people here claiming Roseanne would get cancelled once it became The Connors and people should just overlook the racist things she said because there is no show without Roseanne!

They were wrong about that. They're wrong about this too.

by Anonymousreply 32March 26, 2021 11:17 PM

Petticoat Junk in the Trunk!

by Anonymousreply 33March 26, 2021 11:20 PM

My thigh muscle won't stop twitching. I don't know what to do.

by Anonymousreply 34March 26, 2021 11:26 PM

There should be a Good Times remake where a man named James Evans, Sr leaves his wife and children for a white woman named Florida. It could be called Gooder Times.

by Anonymousreply 35March 26, 2021 11:32 PM

Racists here forget when TV shows and movies started always adding a gay character the straights flipped out and were highly annoyed. “Always have to have a fucking fag in every show now” was commonly said.

by Anonymousreply 36March 26, 2021 11:33 PM

R36 it’s not the same. I’m all for more shows and movies about powerful black characters, historical or fictional. Having black characters play white-face is inaccurate and insulting to everyone involved.

by Anonymousreply 37March 26, 2021 11:52 PM

The black kid couldn't be in a wheelchair?

by Anonymousreply 38March 26, 2021 11:54 PM

[quote]Having black characters play white-face is inaccurate and insulting to everyone involved.

White face?

The show isn't even on yet and the pilot was penciled by a black man who will no doubt do a great job with whatever staff they hire going forward.

[quote]powerful black characters

Why do they have to be powerful? Aren’t there meek, cowardly, boring blacks in the real world?

I’d like to see a black milquetoast character. Or a sniveling sneaky one.

by Anonymousreply 41March 27, 2021 12:05 AM

There was one in Nerds, R41. I think that was Tupac.

by Anonymousreply 42March 27, 2021 12:10 AM

I'm so sick of the black version of this or the black version of that. There are so many talented black writers and actors, let them do something original.

by Anonymousreply 47March 27, 2021 7:45 AM

Networks have done okay with shows like this that are targeted to a narrow audience, and the minimum ratings level for a show to stay on the air is now pretty low, so this show should do okay.

by Anonymousreply 48March 27, 2021 8:45 AM

Who is the bitch being cunty about Everybody Hates Chris? That show was funny as hell with great performances. I think it's one of the best shows we've had on network television in the past 25 years.

by Anonymousreply 49March 27, 2021 8:56 AM

Just to reiterate, we did have “Everybody Hates Chris”, and it was funnier and much less corny. I thought “The Wonder Years” was extremely corny.

“Freaks and Geeks” did it a hundred times better, too.

But go ahead and enjoy the network leavings.

by Anonymousreply 50March 27, 2021 11:43 AM

I’m looking forward to the trans reboot of Felicity, but Ben will probably murder her for stalking him all the way to NYC and he’ll get off on some kind of Trans Panic defense.

by Anonymousreply 51March 27, 2021 3:07 PM

We need an all-white reboot of "Amos 'n' Andy." Maybe the original actors' great-grandchildren can play the leads.

How about The Bill Cosby Show starring Tim Allen?

In all seriousness, The Wonder Years was a TV series about white people. This is a TV movie about a black family growing up in post-segregation 1960s Alabama and sounds far more interesting. So the "Wonder Years" branding seems like a cheap gimmick to profit off racial trends which is pretty sickening. I would bet this project started off with a different title and distribution goals before Fred Savage came along.

by Anonymousreply 53March 27, 2021 6:06 PM

How is this in white face? ITS ABOUT A BLACK FAMLY. It has NOTHING to do with Kevin. It’s a new family. The only thing that the same is the title.

by Anonymousreply 54March 27, 2021 6:15 PM

Furthermore, the writer is from Montgomery, Alabama and graduated from school in 1990.

The black family in his script is from Montgomery, Alabama and the story will take place when the lead was a child.

My guess is, the writer is going to write about his own life so in that way, it will be authentic.

by Anonymousreply 55March 27, 2021 6:19 PM

R23 that should be “Dennis the Black Menace.”

by Anonymousreply 56March 27, 2021 6:21 PM

Sorry, but the title “The Wonder Years” is going to make people think of the original, ‘white’ series, and raise the same objections raised here.

I think it sounds interesting, but the title is dumb. Maybe they think younger people don’t know about the original?

by Anonymousreply 57March 27, 2021 6:37 PM

R51 sound like a good idea for You.

by Anonymousreply 58March 28, 2021 4:54 AM

A sitcom set in the glory days of American apartheid gets black characters. How quaint....

by Anonymousreply 59March 28, 2021 5:09 AM

There’s a trailer out now for the reboot, coming to ABC in September.

I sure as hell don't know. I started kindergarten in 1972, it was snow white all through elementary school.
