“Wild,” “Into the Wild,” and “Nomadland”
“Wild,” “Into the Wild,” and “Nomadland” are meditative and reflective films that explore life on the peripheries of society with very different results. The first could be classified as a triumphant journey, the second an existential tragedy, and the third a hybrid of the two; perhaps an existential triumph or, even, a triumphant tragedy. I love all three films.
Which one is your favorite and why?

Penn's direction of Into the Wild was stunning. Watch it again. The transitions, the compositions, the scoring and images combined. Really powerful movie.

Into The Wild was incredible, honest and deeply, deeply moving. I don’t think I’ve ever had a movie in recent years stick with me quite like that one did. Great performances all around, even Vince Fucking Vaughn. Hal Holbrook was heartbreaking. Never has gotten the full props it deserves.

R7 It definitely should have received a couple of nominations. Such an underrated film. Heartbreaking but also life-affirming.
