Academy Awards 2021 nominations

Best picture noms were meh.

Ann Roth was nominated for "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom". She won once, for "The English Patient". She'll be 90 this year, and I'd like to see her win one more time. But I strongly suspect the winner will be either Alexandra Byrne for "Emma", or Bina Daigeler for "Mulan".

I have seen Ma, Billie, Mank and 7.

7 was the best made but it will lose everything as it had too many white folks.

Andra Day actually was good in the Billie mess. I’m glad she made it in. She’s also a lovely lady. I’m happy for her triumph! Will Carey pumpkin lose this? And Vanessa Kirby was a savage, I’ve certainly not forgotten her performance months on... Viola and Fran can eat each other’s pussies! They sucked.

I’m not going to try to watch Mank again. I just can’t. I am already halfway through the rest of the Best Picture list. I usually watch all the nominees, but I just cannot with Mank. I could tell when I tried to watch it that it would likely be nominated, but it was too off putting. Ugh. I feel the same way when the comic book movies are nominated. Can anyone give me some motivation? Did it get better eventually? What am I missing here?

I'm pleasantly surprised Steven Yeun got in. I thought he was either 6th or 7th in many forecasters and will miss a spot in the top 5.

The motivation to watch Mank is Seyfried in a really cool monkey bandleader outfit near the end.

That Carey Mulligan movie was shit. I mean. As a novelty movie it was ok. Entertaining in its way. But it didn't deserve recognition and Mulligan has done better work. This is not what she ought to get an Oscar for.

Hate me if you must but Glenn Close was magnificent in Hillbilly Elegy. Viola's characterization had no range. She was hammy. Queen Latifah did a better job in the Bessie Smith movie. See it if you can. Andra was fine as Billie. Vey good. I'm glad La Keith Stansfield got nominated. His role was the more demanding. Everyone just assumes Chadwick will win. He probably will. I haven't seen News of the World. Could not sit though Mank. WTF was Fincher thinking.

I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did give Frances her third.

I know COVID had a huge impact on the movie industry, but this year's crop of nominations will kill the Oscars once and for all. Mank should be shown on a loop in Guantanamo Bay. I truly would prefer to be water-boarded than have to sit through that piece of shit movie.
