Loni Anderson Devastated She Lost Movie Role to Barbra Streisand
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 17, 2021 8:56 AM |
You're devastated? YOU'RE devastated?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 13, 2021 6:07 PM |
Sue Mangers begged Babs to do it if I remember correctly. Not sure why.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 13, 2021 6:19 PM |
R2 Because Mengers' husband was the director. It led to Babs dumping Mengers for Sam Cohn.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 13, 2021 6:21 PM |
At first when I saw the headline, I tried to picture Loni as Yentl.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 13, 2021 6:23 PM |
It's hard to say WHO exactly dodged a bullet in this scenario...
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 13, 2021 6:23 PM |
In an interview with Andy Cohen, Loni said Burt left their son Quinton absolutely nothing when he died. In fact, Burt's estate was worth zero at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 13, 2021 6:24 PM |
I hope Loni was not surprised. Both she and Burt burned through all of Burt's money on stupid shit.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 13, 2021 6:27 PM |
Burt was broke and in bankruptcy at the time of his passing.
He spent money like it was water. His huge mansion, a dinner theater that was pretty well known at one time.
It's a shame he never received the respect he deserved. He was a great actor and the Academy snubbed him several times.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 13, 2021 6:28 PM |
She looks pretty damn good for 75.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 13, 2021 6:28 PM |
Thanks R3.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 13, 2021 6:31 PM |
The toupees held him back as a serious actor. He should've gone the Sean Connery route.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 13, 2021 6:33 PM |
R11...The BAD toupees....later in life...Boogie Nights and going forward, the quality improved dramatically.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 13, 2021 6:38 PM |
I thought this was going to be about Loni wanting to ruffle Bob Redford's hair and say, "Your girl is lovely, Hubbell. But I have bigger tits and a pussay that never quits."
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 13, 2021 6:40 PM |
I actually kind of like All Night Long. I like those weird LA tales. Babs isn't bad in it either. She fits into the ensemble well and doesn't draw too much attention to herself.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 13, 2021 6:45 PM |
In retrospect, it is a much better movie than when received. Hackman gives a great performance. Mengers would have been much better in the long-run if she allowed the studio to go with their first choice, Lisa Eichorn.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 13, 2021 6:47 PM |
I’ve never even heard of that movie
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 13, 2021 6:51 PM |
[quote]Burt was broke and in bankruptcy at the time of his passing.
Bea Arthur's revival of Funny Girl at the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater in Jupiter, FL was the reason for that. It cost a small fortune to produce and ended up losing millions.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 13, 2021 7:00 PM |
Lisa Eichorn was replaced by Barbra after shooting began Gene Hackman was apparently not happy with Eichorn. I like All Night Long it's a low key comedy and though Streisand doesn't seem like the ideal casting she's good as is Hackman. Dennis Quaid and Diane Ladd are also in it as Hackman's son and wife. All Night Long is much better than most of Babs' films i.e. Nuts, On a Clear Day, The Way We Were, A Star is Born, The Main Event, Up the Sandbox and What's Up Doc? She's actually more relaxed and likable than usual in it. And yes I could see Andersson in the role but not Eichorn who I saw in Cutter's Way.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 13, 2021 7:17 PM |
Loni dodged a bullet. All Night Long is Barbra's weakest film by a country mile. It's best forgotten, which I will do after I finish typing this message.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 12, 2021 8:27 PM |
I do not remember anything about that movie or that it even existed. I think Loni should just be happy with her WKRP legacy. I caught her on a rerun of Barnaby Jones recently. She had dark hair, but otherwise played a dumb blond type character. She ended up being the key to cracking the case!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 12, 2021 8:36 PM |
Stroker Ace > All Night Long
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 12, 2021 8:39 PM |
I came here to say exactly that, R19. But I'll admit I'd prefer to remember "All Night Night Long", and completely forget "The Owl And The Pussycat" (I prefer and adore "For Pete's Sake"), and ESPECIALLY "The Prince Of Tides".
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 12, 2021 8:40 PM |
On the other hand, Loni, take heart. You became a legend as a result of your masterful work on "WKRP in Cincinnati" for which Barbra was never even considered.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 12, 2021 9:11 PM |
[quote]All Night Long is much better than most of Babs' films i.e. Nuts, On a Clear Day, The Way We Were, A Star is Born, The Main Event, Up the Sandbox and What's Up Doc?
R18. Are you insane? No, "All Night Long" is not better. "The Way We Were" and "What's Up Doc?" are a couple of classic, landmark Streisand movies of their day that still hold up today. Good lord, you think "All Night Long" is better than "The Way We Were?" You couldn't be more wrong. Even the other movies you listed are all far better than "All Night Long."

'This sophisticated slapstick romance is a happy surprise; it has a distinctive comic sensibility" -Pauline Kael
Not a film for the Dumb and Dumber crowd!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 12, 2021 9:22 PM |
Did she lose it after Eichorn was fired or in the initial casting?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 12, 2021 9:23 PM |
All Night Long (which I saw at the theater) was not a big hit and was pulled out of the theaters after just a few weeks. Just about everybody connected with it, including Babs, was disappointed with it. The studio, producers, and money men considered it a bomb.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 12, 2021 9:45 PM |
I wonder which other film roles Loni lost to Academy Award winners.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 13, 2021 1:00 AM |
Loni was up for the lead in "Gone With The Wind" A Streetcar Named Desire." Vivien Leigh won the roles.
Loni was also up for the role of Vivian Bagley in "The Lucy Show." Vivian Vance won the role.
Damn those Vivs.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 13, 2021 2:13 AM |
Loni Anderson was up for the role of Sally Bowles in "Cabaret." Then in walks Liza Minnelli, and Loni's dream role evaporated.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 13, 2021 2:15 AM |
Monster's Ball was written for Loni, but Halle Berry was cast because she was a more bankable name.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 13, 2021 2:18 AM |
Loni was considered for crazy Alex in Fatal Attraction. Loni could have won the Academy Award. Glenn lost it.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 13, 2021 2:18 AM |
Loni Anderson almost was cast in The Rose, then that damn Midler auditioned.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 13, 2021 2:20 AM |
Loni had perfected her Polish accent and considered a shoo-in for the lead in Sophie's Choice. It's rumored that someone named Meryl blew the director and the rest is history.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 13, 2021 2:20 AM |
Loni was the first actress considered for The Piano, but she didn't want to spend several months in New Zealand away from Burt and their boy.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 13, 2021 2:24 AM |
She was going to be Norma Rae but they really didn't like her.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 13, 2021 2:25 AM |
Loni was considered for the role of Beth in Ordinary People, but Mary Tyler Moore flattened Loni's tires on her way to the audition. Robert Redford immediately knew who his ice-water-for-viens Beth would be.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 13, 2021 2:35 AM |
She was considered for the lead role in Lincoln, but Daniel Day Lewis had a better set of tits and his beard wasn’t the result of post menopause......
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 13, 2021 2:36 AM |
Loni really wanted the role in "The Lonely Lady", even going so far as bringing her own garden hose to the audition and raping herself with it--even though the audition scene was supposed to be the awards show. After that, it was understandable why Pia Zadora got the role.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | May 13, 2021 2:40 AM |
All Night Long was the second time Barbra walked off with a plum role for Lonnie. Barbra wasn't entirely sold on the idea on the Funny Girl sequel, "Funny Lady." When Barbra hesitated at signing on, it was decided that Loni Anderson would take over the role of a more mature Fanny Brice. Barbra eventually relented. Barbra unexpectedly walked on set to sign her contract. The ink was barely dry on the page when Loni was fired on the spot.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 13, 2021 2:41 AM |
Loni had her heart set on playing Minnie in "The Help".
She used to practice saying, "Shit pie" for days. Damn that Octavia Spencer!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 13, 2021 2:42 AM |
Loni was set to play opposite Ben Allfeck in "Gigli." We don't have to tell DL what happened. Let's just say, don't mention the Bronx to Loni.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 13, 2021 2:46 AM |
I read this as “Louie Anderson Devastated...” and now I can’t stop picturing what might’ve been.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 13, 2021 2:48 AM |
Wasn’t Loni considered for Stone Pillow but Gary for once couldn’t talk Lucy out of doing it? Loni even brought newspapers to wipe her ass with and a bunch of poor people stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 13, 2021 2:53 AM |
The interrogation scene in Basic Instinct, in which Sharon Stone uncrosses abd crosses her legs, revealing her lack of panties under her skirt was inspired by an incident that happened when Loni visited the set of Sesame Street.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 13, 2021 2:56 AM |
I never liked her.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 13, 2021 2:56 AM |
Hated those chipmunk cheeks.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 13, 2021 3:08 AM |
G will be devastated when she loses Norma Desmond, and the Oscar, to Loni.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 13, 2021 3:54 AM |
For a planned “The Way We Were” reboot, Loni and Joe Manganiello spent months practicing the famous motorcycle scene with her sitting reverse cowboy as he pops a wheelie.
Of course, the “True Blood” contract kept them from realizing their dream.

Lisa Eichorn had a rough career. She was fired from this which ended a movie career that was off to a good start.
Then she was one of the three finalists for Diane on "Cheers" but lost to Shelley Long. (Julia Duffy was the other finalist.)

Loni was first choice for A Cry In The Dark, but her shooting schedule for Partners in Crime allowed Meryl to grab the role. Loni's Australian accent was considered superior to Streep's.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 13, 2021 5:42 AM |
I once saw her bringing her son to a psychologist. I'm sure he had issues with Burt pretty much abandoning him.
(I may be projecting though. I was at the psychologists for pretty much that reason.)
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 13, 2021 5:48 AM |
Eichorn got her revenge several years later, when she added a "Murder She Wrote", to her resume--something Streisand was never able to achieve.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 13, 2021 5:49 AM |
Loni was also lined up to play Chris Evans’ twin Susan Storm in “Fantastic Four”, but the shooting schedule for “So Notorious” went over.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 13, 2021 5:52 AM |
yeah r8.
I think I read his rich neighbor was paying his bills when he died.
Loni made him sell all his valuables including his Golden Globe to pay alimony or child support. Odd since Loni had her own two golden globes.

R24 has been awarded DL’s “Peak Homosexual Achieved” award for the day.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 13, 2021 6:23 AM |
Burt abandoned you, r55?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 13, 2021 2:11 PM |
Loni starred in remakes of A Letter to Three Wives and Sorry Wrong Number. How'd that happen?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 13, 2021 11:39 PM |
She was good in that Thelma Todd movie.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 14, 2021 12:11 AM |
And don't forget her turn as Jayne Mansfield.

A Dingo stole my career!
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 14, 2021 12:30 AM |
I liked her detective show with Linda Carter but not enough to Google it
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 14, 2021 12:31 AM |
Does Loni bring up her most recent career heartbreak losing the lead roles in Ladybird and Little Women to Saoirse Ronan. She was supposed to be Greta Gerwig's muse. Apparently her screentest for Ladybird was the scene where she loses her virginity to Chalamet was off the charts!
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 14, 2021 12:45 AM |
But isn't Loni trans? Im sure I saw "her" on the gay beach in Atlantic City in 1977.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | May 14, 2021 12:53 AM |
R8 no wonder that dinner theater went broke with such terrible casting as Miss Ruth Buzzi in Evita!
by Anonymous | reply 68 | May 14, 2021 1:12 AM |
Loni as Tzeitel in "Fiddler on the Roof" at the Chanhassen Dinner Theaters (1971). Take that, Barbra!
by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 14, 2021 1:19 AM |
I went behind Gary's back and lobbied for "All Night Long". I didn't even mind that I'd have to show my tits in it, according to the script. Alas, Gary found out about it and hit me with the Canasta board. I went to my room with a bottle of gin and cried for days.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 14, 2021 1:31 AM |
She spells her name Lisa EICHHORN!
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 14, 2021 4:42 AM |
r69 shows us the tits are fake
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 14, 2021 4:58 AM |
My Tzeitel would have had a better voice and ass. Loni, can you hear me?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | May 14, 2021 5:03 AM |
Meryl was way too subdued in 'Sophie's Choice', for fuck's sake! Loni would have high kicked that role into orbit!
by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 14, 2021 5:14 AM |
Did you know that Loni was the leading choice to play Josephine Bakker in the TV movie of Josephine’s life? As what would happen to Loni when she was the first choice to play Tina Turner, Loni was a much better singer, dancer, and had darker skin than those she was playing. As one director put it, “Hiring Loni to play Josephine would be like hiring Frank Sinatra to play Tiny Tim”
Too beautiful, talented, and driven to play the great roles.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 17, 2021 8:45 AM |
Loni Anderson has and always will be a non-talented dog. If ever anybody wanted proof that the couching couch existed in Hollywood she would be it. Though fuck knows who would want to fuck her. Ugly inside and out.
