After 75-year-old dies from attack, alarm increases in Oakland's Asian community
Pak Ho, from Hong Kong, was robbed and assaulted by a man police said had a history of victimizing elderly Asian people.
... Police on Thursday arrested Teaunte Bailey, 26, in connection with the robbery.
Police said that through their investigation, they “learned that the suspect has a history of victimizing elderly Asian people”. In addition to Ho’s death, prosecutors also charged Bailey with the robbery and assault of a 72-year-old Asian man at an Oakland senior care home in February. Authorities said Bailey allegedly broke into the senior living apartment, shoved the victim while saying “money, money” at him, before leaving with the victim’s phone and numerous other items from the home.

If the victim was a black man, he would get 27m

These are not hate crimes. It was a robbery.
Black people target Asians, and in Paris Muslim hoodlums do too, because they see them as easy marks with money.

[quote] Anti-Asian sentiments, fueled for years by the Trump administration’s trade war with China, exploded with the pandemic and Donald Trump’s bigoted usage of “China virus” and “kung flu”.
Yes, that’s what triggered Teaunte Bailey to attack and rob the victim, and not the “history of victimizing elderly Asian people”.

The attacker was Black, so I guess it is time to blame white people.

This is sad. While everyone debates what words/ actions can be racist or not, coming from public figures, we have serious hate crimes being committed. I see it's mentioned on the news, but can't believe the violence against Asians is not being talked about more seriously.

Actually, the police weren’t defunded and they still didn’t stop this murder.
I guess the police are pretty useless

Oakland's police weren't defunded, there's a task force recommending reforms but none have been agreed to yet, and none are for defunding.
The budget shortfall last year wasn't about defunding, it was a government budgetary issue.

So is it only old Asians being attacked or is it any old people?
Yeah, Donald Trump's words embolden those who think Asians are inconsequential.

If this victim had been black & the perpetrator white the city would have been turned upside down, no question, and to say otherwise is just disingenuous. But since that's not the case, and it hasn't been the case in the majority of these recent attacks on Asian-Americans, it's Donald Trump's fault. This sounds almost too simple, but it's just the truth. Any attempt to refute just highlights the convenient scapegoat that racism provides those who wish to create & steer their aganda toward the dialog they want everyone else to have.

It's all Trump's fault.
I hope he's attacked by a gang wielding long pointed steel chopsticks.
