That period was the apex of SNL. Carey, Hooks, Meyers, Hartman... hell even Victoria Jackson had a few moments. And no one seems to be reading cue cards.

Hard to believe 2 of those 3 performers didn’t see 60.
We’ve talked about how Hooks never really got the career she deserved after SNL, but Carvey was equally robbed. I remember his short lived variety show afterwards. He didn’t get many other opportunities if I recall (yes, I’m not forgetting WAYNE’S WORLD). I enjoyed his occasional appearances on late night in his later years. He is so funny.
Surprisingly, he did a couple of series before SNL that didn’t last long.
