In the past I used to go to some of the larger trans health conferences, and most of us were just people with jobs, families, etc. Any idiot can start a blog and write down insane shit-it doesn’t mean that all Transpeople follow Alok’s philosophies. As far as I know most trans people are more concerned about maintaining marriage equality, orientation and identity protections, and Human equality.

Think what you will of Alok Vaid-Menon's gender-blending appearance, and we're certainly talking deliberately ugly and shocking here, but he's still an established character whose words are taken seriously and possibly even guidelines on how to deal with various trans issues.

That's why it's actually shocking to hear him say those things about little girls. He's sexualizing them in a very scary way. He's behaving like apparently his own feelings when growing up are universally what little girls are supposed to be feeling. It sounds like he was abused as a child and really thinks the weird feelings the abuse caused were normal. I personally had to witness my parents' sex life as a kid because we lived in a too small apartment and that was nothing but disgusting and something I wish I never had to hear on those dark nights I was trying to block the noises by holding hands over my ears. Although I'm a man I can speak for little girls as well when I say that pre-puberty kids are very rarely sexual creatures unless some outside force has jump started their sexual development.

Obviously humans are complicated creatures and many Dataloungers have said over the years they had boners they enjoyed before puberty. I myself didn't although witnessing my parents' sex life made read my dad's porn mags although I didn't enjoy them sexually at that point. My best friend didn't understand at all why I was interested in porn since sex was still a totally foreign concept to him. At that point sexuality is still something very faint and nothing like when the hormones really start kicking in. Having people like Vaid-Menon claim kids pre-puberty are almost like adults sexually is grotesque. Especially because he's claiming to have been a little girl while everyone can see he's physically a big hairy man now.

That said I assume we still need proof he really said those things and the words weren't taken out of context.

Around the time Alok came onto the scene (2015? 2016?) I had to do teaching observations of grad students in my department (humanities). One of the classes I observed was held in an engineering building (classroom space at the university is at a premium and they schedule classes wherever they can).

Anyway, the kid teaching the class was a recent SLAC graduate and earnest enough. He was teaching a unit on "identity" and the day that I observed him, showed his class a few Alok videos.

To each his own ... but the funniest thing was when an engineering professor walked by, paused (the classroom door was open), and watched three seconds of the Alok video with a huge "WTF???" expression on his face before scurrying away to the safety of his engineering lecture.

Even I was a little bit embarrassed for the humanities in that moment.
