I don’t get it.
How are D-F list actors who haven’t gotten work in years surviving?

like everyone else, OP. They find a source of income at the level they require. Teach. Leave the profession for another job that pays. if they ever made good money from acting they could have invested and could have rental income for example.

Some get real jobs. It seems that some actresses will use having children as an excuse to retire as they head into their 40s. I also wonder how many bit role actors do theater much of the time. Some actors prefer stage acting but do occasional screen roles to keep the lights on. Kate Mulgrew's passion was always theater, but she took the Star Trek: Voyager role because she was broke.

Goop isn't D-F list. And I'm sure she got KACHING! for Iron Man movies.
I would say Blake Lively became a solid C list Hollywood Star. Rising now and then to B list. She tried the Goop thing and failed.

When OP says "work", I guess that means in a big budget Hollywood production.
For working actors, there's other opportunities. There are TV/movie/stage productions outside of the US. There's off Broadway and off-off Broadway. There are stage productions all over the US. There are also teaching gigs at schools.
For nonworking actors, they get 9-5 jobs like everyone else. I know an off Broadway director that was a word processor for a few years when work dried up. The first Lionel from The Jeffersons was a substitute teacher at my junior high school (this was 20+ years ago). Many go back to school to learn a new profession.

They have investments that provide for them. And "D-F list" actors can always find work. They can do voice work, cheap movie and tv productions. And get paid nicely for it, although not the huge sums that more in demand actors get.
Susan Bluestein, the widow of the actor Brad Davis, is a successful casting director. In her memoir "After Midnight" she tells of her life with Brad Davis and their careers. Davis, after making a big splash with "Midnight Express" became a raging alcoholic and drug addict and his career nosedived. But he continued to find work and got paid very well for some it. Even an actor who is not considered A-list or even B-list can make a nice living.

I know a few actors. One is an older lady who’s been in a few national ad campaigns. They paid very well, apparently. She does summer stock and loves theater. I think she gets some sort of artist subsidy from NYC, too. I know two who are real estate agents now, one who did movies and TV., the other commercials. Another is a bartender. They’re all New York actors and all have been on “Law & Order”. There are many productions here and these folks get a walk-on or a small speaking role, like FedEx driver or landlady who discovers the body.
A lot of them are temps who fill in as administrative assistants, too. They can go on auditions but still make rent money, etc. I’ve encountered many that way.

[quote] Anna Nicole Smith & Tila Tequila
I just looked up Tila Tequila. She's alive. She hasn't posted on social media for almost 2 years. But her last posts showed her to be a super religious trumpster who thinks about abortion and pedophiles, day and night
She practices some religion where they're supposed to judge everyone. She's also a nazi who believes the earth is flat and she actually has custody of her daughter

R12, how odd you selected Tila Tequila. Was there any particular reason you chose her? Very peculiar you just happened to list name her.

I think it would be horrible to be in everyone's living room for several years, and now working in an office or restaurant.
I'd start some business in a Hollywood like house cleaning or dog walking, just so I wouldn't have to go back to Podunk and be nobody.

Just like the rest of us, really. They find other jobs, whether it's waiting tables again or landing into something more high-paying.
My cousin had a taste of fame in the 90s, but his career ended before he was old enough to drink. He got his degree, works in education, and makes much more money than an actor struggling to find roles.

This is quite a long interview but Trevor Penick of the boy band O-Town gives an honest account of what it's like to go from sold out arenas to waiting tables in Hollywood. Much respect to him for his humility!

We hated them at the time but, in retrospect, they were models of sanity compared to the current crop of BRF foaming at the mouth nuts as well the Z-list celebrity cyberstalkers that have infested DL in the past couple of years.
