He's had throat cancer with tracheostomy and IMO probably far more serious than he admits. He's lucky to be alive.
Granted, I know he was a royal asshole for much of his acting career... he was other-worldly gorgeous for a long time.
I've followed his social media and he seems ok now as far as not being an asshole?

It broke my heart that Val & Joanne Whalley weren’t forever. Usually I hate breeders, but I really wanted them to make it.
Since it was revealed he beat on her, and that he’s a Christian scientist, I have no time for the slimy pig. Such a pity, as he really was a charismatic actor with great looks at one point.
Forgot how gorgeous Joanne is, too...

Yes cancer ages you, but he appears to have had cosmetic surgery on the upper half of his face which has led to his dramatically different look as from some 10-15 years.
