Denmark suspends use of AstraZeneca Covid vaccine over reports of blood clots

...and one death.

by Anonymousreply 242June 16, 2021 12:53 AM

Maybe they should also suspend the use of excessive alcohol, they would save even more lives.

by Anonymousreply 1March 11, 2021 11:10 AM

I didn't know that aabout denmaark.

by Anonymousreply 2March 11, 2021 11:19 AM

Isn't that the J&J vaccine of Europe?

by Anonymousreply 3March 11, 2021 11:38 AM

My circulation isn’t fantastic on a good day. This has me worried.

by Anonymousreply 4March 11, 2021 11:39 AM

COVID causes blood clots, so it's not terribly surprising that the vaccine in rare cases could cause enough of a reaction that someone would develop them, though a little worrying.

by Anonymousreply 5March 11, 2021 11:41 AM

I had a bad shoulder joint after my AZ jab.

Probably to do with where she injected me high up on my arm.

As someone else has said, it's no real surprise that someone has had an adverse reaction. Given the millions of arms it's going into.

Just take the damn jab, you'll be fine.

by Anonymousreply 6March 11, 2021 11:49 AM

Spain uses the same vaccine, has not recorded any incidents of blood clots and will continue to use it.

by Anonymousreply 7March 11, 2021 11:51 AM

My AZ vaccine is scheduled for Monday and I have no concerns about it.

by Anonymousreply 8March 11, 2021 11:53 AM

I want the Gucci of vaccines! Which one is it?

by Anonymousreply 9March 11, 2021 11:53 AM

Sputnik

by Anonymousreply 10March 11, 2021 11:58 AM

It's weird that none of our Russian trolls post in the Dyatlov Pass threads.

by Anonymousreply 11March 11, 2021 12:00 PM

You’ll have to settle for Prada, r9.

Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 12March 11, 2021 12:03 PM

22 cases out of three million vaccinated with the AZ vaccine, and one death.

by Anonymousreply 13March 11, 2021 12:04 PM

R13, with figures like that it would be hard to know if it is linked to the vaccine or someone already had an issue. I had my AZ vaccination and other than feeling a bit unwell the next day and the heavy arm feeling I was fine. There have been some severe allergic reactions to the Pfizer one but in all honestly these issues are so rare it isn’t worth worrying about.

by Anonymousreply 14March 11, 2021 12:11 PM

R9 If you get the Gucci of vaccines it will be hideously ugly and cost $3000.00

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 15March 11, 2021 12:23 PM

This is a B-vaccine. Healthcare workers here in Norway have reported many nasty side effects. 30 % of the vaccinated people experience side effeccts vs just 10 % of those who got Pfizer.

by Anonymousreply 16March 11, 2021 4:34 PM

Mayor DeBlasio said this morning that minority populations will consent to the Johnson and Johnson vaccine because it’s a brand they know and trust. This comment doesn’t exactly belong here, but not totally off-topic, either. The comments about Prada and Gucci kind of prove that. There is value in branding.

by Anonymousreply 17March 11, 2021 4:45 PM

The Pfizer one sounds the best. I think that’s the Rolls Royce of vaccines at the moment.

by Anonymousreply 18March 11, 2021 5:06 PM

R16 Link?

by Anonymousreply 19March 11, 2021 5:11 PM

The Danes seem to be big smokers, according to all the Danish series I’ve been binging this year.

by Anonymousreply 20March 11, 2021 5:13 PM

Well Queen Margrethe most certainly is!

by Anonymousreply 21March 11, 2021 6:20 PM

R16, I was reading a report yesterday that the AZ side effects are worse after the first dose and the Pfizer after the second. Of the 20 or so people I know personally who have been vaccinated - about an even number of both vaccines - I would say the AZ side effects have been more common but my sister had to take to her bad and spent a day with fever, chills and severe vomiting after the PFizer. Honestly, having side effects for a couple of days is worth not getting COVID of which my aunt died and a friend was extremely ill. Two other friends have long COVID. Just everybody take whichever is available and suck it up for a day or two.

by Anonymousreply 22March 11, 2021 7:49 PM

And now 3 people are admitted to hospital here in Norway with bloodclots, just days after getting the vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 23March 13, 2021 2:27 PM

30 incidents.

5 million vaccinated.

by Anonymousreply 24March 13, 2021 2:29 PM

So what I'm getting here is AZ causes bloodclots predominantly in people from cultures that produce crime dramas and have a fish heavy diet. Now we know.

by Anonymousreply 25March 13, 2021 2:40 PM

Should one be on a blood thinner before getting this vaccine? I've been on and off blood thinners - maybe I'll restart taking a daily baby aspirin.
30 incidents. 5 million vaccinated.

Translation: Ain't me or anyone I know. Fuck 'em. Get the jab!

by Anonymousreply 27March 13, 2021 2:45 PM

I just watched the press conference with the doctor her in Norway and he seemed very worried. He urged people who have gotten the vaccine to check their skin for blue marks, which could indicate bleeding. When a doctor says everyone should be on the alert for side effects, especially bloodclots, then it's serious. The doctor also said the type of bloodclots these people got are very rare, something they rarely see and are hard to treat. And it's worrying the bloodclots all happened in young people.

R28 is trying to run with this in several threads. Our anti-AZ troll having another go?

by Anonymousreply 31March 13, 2021 2:55 PM

The anti AZ troll is indeed!

They'll be telling us next that it's unpatriotic to accept anything but a US vaccine.

R31 Why not? It's a health concern. I'm interested.

by Anonymousreply 33March 13, 2021 3:06 PM

by Anonymousreply 35March 13, 2021 3:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 40March 15, 2021 6:52 AM

Yeah I don't have a good impression of AstraZeneca... Seems the most dubious in a batch of experimental vaccines.
The Danes seem to be big smokers, according to all the Danish series I’ve been binging this year.

Big smokers and big drinkers. Thousand die of it every year in that country. Yet, oh so concerned about a harmless little vaccine that may killed 1 out of 1 million people.
Btw I'm not anti-vax, but that doesn't mean I'm going to blindly take whatever's put in front of me. Just like o don't take pills from strangers in nightclubs...

What an absurd analogy. All the vaccines have been tested on thousands of people and gone through rigorous scientific studies. Yes, some have side effects, yes, one in a million might have a fatal reaction. That's normal for any vaccine. That's NOT the same as taking some street drug from some total stranger in a nightclub who may have just cut the drug himself with Ajax.

Get a grip Mary.

by Anonymousreply 45March 15, 2021 7:23 AM

Wasn’t Vaxxine one of Fonzie’s girlfriends?

by Anonymousreply 46March 15, 2021 7:31 AM

you take it R45

by Anonymousreply 47March 15, 2021 7:42 AM

From The Economist’s daily email this morning.... “ AstraZeneca said a review of data from 17m people vaccinated with its covid-19 jab, developed with Oxford University, found no increased risk of blood clots. Over the weekend Ireland and Netherlands joined a growing list of European countries in halting use of the jab, after reports of clotting. The review, conducted alongside European health authorities, found fewer clotting cases than would be expected to occur naturally.”

by Anonymousreply 48March 15, 2021 7:44 AM

I will R47, in fact I am scheduled to get my first shot tomorrow, couldn't be more excited.

by Anonymousreply 49March 15, 2021 7:54 AM

Caught another article on the Fail about "Long Haul Covid" sufferers & it was mentioned that one of the recurring symtoms are tiny little BLOOD CLOTS in blood vessels

Interesting correlation

The cells in the vessels attack any traces of the virus left over but in minuscule amounts causing fatigue & other maladies

So blood clotting is a problem that needs to be researched

by Anonymousreply 50March 15, 2021 7:57 AM

This board skews old (think 65+) so these old bitches are happy to get anything. Astra is the B list vax and if I get vaxxed I won’t settle for b list as nobody should.

by Anonymousreply 51March 15, 2021 8:04 AM

I know old bitches that are anti-vaxxers though. I don't think age has a lot to do with it. Although for some reason all the anti-vaxxers I know are woman.

by Anonymousreply 52March 15, 2021 8:06 AM

R51 Exactly. I will only accept the better vaccines Pfizer or Moderna.

by Anonymousreply 53March 15, 2021 8:11 AM

Note how R51 says "[bold]if[/bold] I get vaxxed" - their agenda is perfectly obvious

by Anonymousreply 54March 15, 2021 8:20 AM

Thing with your plan to only accept the Gucci of antiviruses being shot into your veins is even with AZ there's not enough to go round in Europe. Its now so bad Eastern Europe has decided taking something called Sputnik is better than the alternative. So you're probably not getting broad immunity until December if you're all this picky.

by Anonymousreply 55March 15, 2021 8:22 AM

And Astra-Zeneca is run by a gang of cunts. They have NOT met their delivery targets and contractual obligations.

When COVID is over, I hope tho fuck the EU destroys the company.

by Anonymousreply 56March 15, 2021 8:25 AM

R54, I said IF because I can’t get the vax now as it will kill me as I’m in poor health. And no, I’m not the I’m in poor health troll. Smoker Is all I shall say.

I still wouldn’t recommend Astra to anyone as 3 countries have put it on pause. Pfizer and Moderna as someone else stated.

So not anti vax, just saying do your research and don’t be a lemming. :)

by Anonymousreply 57March 15, 2021 8:46 AM

Correlation is not Causation.

Why is that such a hard concept for people to understand? 3 Countries put it on hold so they can do more research on the ACCUSATIONS that it caused 2 people to die. It has not been shown by any study or over 1 million people so far that this drug is the cause. People die every day, there is such a thing as coincident, have you Mary's all forgot about this concept? It's not different than when someone walk into an emergency room for a cough, then coincidentally drops dead of a heart attack. Dose that mean the hospital caused the death? That's the argument you guys are making here.

2 People out of millions died after a vaccine shot, therefore it must be the cause of their death.

Yet you have no proof of that. Yet "you believe".

Simpletons.

by Anonymousreply 58March 15, 2021 8:59 AM

12 different countries have now banned AstraZeneca.

by Anonymousreply 59March 15, 2021 9:01 AM

Stop spreading lies R59. NO COUNTRY HAS BANNED AstraZeneca. They put it on hold so you Karens can take a breath while they look into your BS claims and hysteria. It's not banned.

by Anonymousreply 60March 15, 2021 9:06 AM

There's a link between air travel and blood clots but people still get on planes.

You conspiracy theorists need to fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 61March 15, 2021 9:09 AM

R60, You are correct. Instead of "banned" I should have said "SUSPENDED."

Still it's 12 countries, so far, that have suspended AstraZeneca.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 62March 15, 2021 9:14 AM

R58 Lets focus on the facts, shall we. 3 people got blood clots in Norway just days after they got the AZ vaccine. The blood clotting type is rare. They also saw the same exact rare blood clotting in Denmark. Also a reminder that the people who got the blood clots are young. Yes, blood clotting happens also in young people, but is a lot more rare than in older people.

Now I'm not saying this definitely proves there's a link, but I think it's likely. We will see after the investigation. If it turns out there is a link, they need to find out what happened and make sure it doesn't happen again. For example if there's an error in the production, or if there's something wrong with a batch.

by Anonymousreply 63March 15, 2021 9:15 AM

R63, you are the perfect example of what I said above, you have no facts just coincident. Correlation is not Causation!

by Anonymousreply 64March 15, 2021 9:19 AM
The Danes seem to be big smokers, according to all the Danish series I’ve been binging this year.

When I lived there, not only were they heavy smokers but the cigarettes were much, much stronger than the European norm and often sold unfiltered. The same local brands marked for export were much milder. Women of a certain age often smoked cheroots. This was a while ago, so I assume things have improved since. Not sure why this would lead to blood clots in YOUNGER people though.

by Anonymousreply 65March 15, 2021 9:24 AM

There have been 15 cases of DVT and 22 cases of pulmonary embolism in 17 million A-Z vaccinations.

That's a 0.00019% incidence.

by Anonymousreply 66March 15, 2021 9:26 AM

My one American friend that moved there smokes pot non stop day and night. Locals stop by at all times during the day just to get high. He's not a dealer, in fact I dont think it's legal there but from the sounds of it, everyone there under the radar is a heavy, heavy drinker, smoker and pot head.

by Anonymousreply 67March 15, 2021 9:29 AM

They are both northern European countries at the end of winter. Wonder if Vitamin D deficiency is a problem. We know Vitamin D helps when you're infected with Covid. Maybe the way it helps is by keeping you from developing these tiny clots. The fact that it is younger people, who are probably more likely to have not listened to authorities about taking Vitamin D over the last year might point to some relationship, too. Could also be a genetic thing. Were the three in Norway from a particular geographic area or family?

by Anonymousreply 68March 15, 2021 9:52 AM

R64 and R66 The UK get their AZ vaccine from a factory in the UK. The EU gets their AZ vaccine from a factory in Belgium. Is it not possible there might have been an error in the factory, and that's why we see more cases of side effects such as blood clots in the EU? Why do you brush this off? Again, there might not be a link, but isn't it better to be on the safe side? Shouldn't they investegate what is going on? Best case scenario there is no link and they can start vaccination again, great. Worst case scenario they find a link. Then maybe it was a good thing they stopped so they can locate the error. Again, I find some of the reaction here on DL to be a bit crass. I am not an anti-waxxer nor am I a conspiracy nut, but I do support taking a closer look at what is going on here. Better to be safe than sorry.

by Anonymousreply 69March 15, 2021 10:09 AM

It’s gonna be C list soon with all this negative press!

by Anonymousreply 70March 15, 2021 10:23 AM

R69 it's the undertone of anti-vaccination hysteria of certain posters on this thread and others that is driving the push back. Nobody is suggesting brushing it off.

New case of blood clot in Norway today. The person got it after the AZ vaccine. It was another health worker.

damn, RIP to those who died. and they can't even sue!

by Anonymousreply 83March 15, 2021 4:53 PM

R81 Can we look behind the numbers? How about age and other underlying health issues in those who died? We had a few deaths from Pfizer here in Norway at a nursing home. We're talking about people aged 90+ and are on deaths door already. A simple cold could wipe them out. Some of them obviously couldn't handle the side effects. This is to be expected.

Has any YOUNG and HEALTHY people died from an extremely rare case of blood clots from the Pfizer vaccine? Because that's the issue here. 3 young and healthy people got very sick all with a rare type of blood clot just days after getting the vaccine from AZ.

by Anonymousreply 84March 15, 2021 6:07 PM

Do some of you own Astra Zeneca stock or something?

We can acknowledge that there might be undesirable side effects in one manufacturer’s vaccine. It’s okay.

We all know that airplanes crash on rare occasions, but most of us still fly on them. Doesn’t mean that the news should stop reporting when an airplane crashes.

by Anonymousreply 85March 15, 2021 6:14 PM

R85 Thank you. Exactly. I seriously don't get why people are so quick to defend AZ. It's like they're personally offended if ayone says anything bad about it. It's almost like we shouldn't investigate when a young person develops a rare blood clot and dies because "it might trash the company's reputation". WTF?!

by Anonymousreply 86March 15, 2021 6:25 PM

R86, I think it's more that people don't want an overreaction where suddenly people refuse to take the vaccines without actual evidence that it was the vaccines and keep this fucking pandemic going for another damn year. I wonder if this was linked more to the medium the vaccine is manufactured in if there haven't been any problems with those produced in the UK factory while the Beligian one is causing these problems?

by Anonymousreply 87March 15, 2021 6:29 PM

Who would have though that fucking Moderna out of all the companies would sit beside Pfizer as the top 2 vaccines. I remember a year ago Datalounge savants saying Astrazeneca would be the best b/c Oxford University.......... yeah. Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Tom Cotton are all Ivy League lawyers and yet somehow people still buy into Elite Universities = very smart people.

Also, Astrazeneca also had neurological side-effects during the trials as well as only being 70% effective. You're better off getting Johnson and Johnson which at least prevents death and severe Covid.

by Anonymousreply 88March 15, 2021 6:39 PM

R87 You call a perfectly healthy young woman dying of a rare blood clot an overreaction? You think it's totally fine that young people die after getting a vaccine? It's just collateral damage to you? Fuck off. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Good for the countries that have stopped vaccinating with it, at least until we know more. It's the right decision imo.

by Anonymousreply 89March 15, 2021 6:55 PM

Another person hospitalized with a blood clot here in Norway after the AZ vaccine. I think we're up to 5 or 6 people now. It might not seem like a lot but we have barely vaccinated 100k with it here in Norway. Not millions like the UK. Also, they're all young people. Not like the few 90 year olds who died from Pfizer. And before you say it's because of the birth controll pill, one of the people hospitalized in Oslo was a guy. So we can rule that out.

by Anonymousreply 90March 15, 2021 7:21 PM

R86 Who are you quoting there about the company's reputation? You put it in quotation marks, so which post are you quoting?

The rates of clots and so on are at the same rate as in the unvaccinated population.

by Anonymousreply 91March 15, 2021 10:13 PM

37 people getting blood clots out of 17 million vaccinated is statistically less than might be expected for 17 million people without vaccinations. You can as easily argue from the evidence that AZ actually stops blood clots. As has been said repeatedly, coincidence is not causation. WHO and the European Medical Agency do not advise any halt on using any vaccine. European governments are doing the knee-jerk, evidence-free, cover-our-backs approach that got most of them into the vaccination farce they have in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 92March 15, 2021 10:30 PM

R92 Plus it's a good coverup for people like Macron who have fucked up the vaccination rollout in their countries; come the inevitable inquiry he'll surely be blaming AZ's reputation for the poor take-up, and not him repeating Trump-esque bullshit about the trustworthiness of the vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 93March 15, 2021 11:50 PM

R89, you seem to be an ignorant, reactionary asshole with reading comprehension issues and little understanding of science, so the rest of us will stick with the actual facts instead of your bloviating.

by Anonymousreply 94March 16, 2021 3:34 AM

The BBC’s reporting of this story makes it so clear that, protestations to the contrary, BBC is the UK’s state media. The slant is completely pro-UK and pro-vaccine.

I’m not saying I think anything’s wrong with AZ by the way. But their coverage of covid in general has been extremely slanted. When they reported on the US covid problem, their graphs always showed absolute numbers, showing the US with the highest infection and death numbers. This despite the fact that the US has a population six times that of the UK, and that the infection and death [italic]rates[/italic] there were actually as high or higher than the US.

Fast forward to today, and suddenly rates matter — in defending the UK vaccine program they compared the rate of those vaccinated in the UK to other European countries.

Might as well be Pravda.

by Anonymousreply 95March 16, 2021 3:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 96March 16, 2021 3:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 97March 16, 2021 4:23 AM

There aren't enough, R97. But, maybe the AZ manufacturing plants can start producing J&J instead like we've started having competing vaccine supply companies do here in the US.

by Anonymousreply 98March 16, 2021 5:09 AM

R95 being another idiot who thinks if the BBC doesn't match his opinion then it's bias

by Anonymousreply 99March 16, 2021 5:52 AM

I am in my 30s. The people who developed blood clots are all between 30 and 50. The person who died of a brain hemorrage (sp?) last week was only 30-something. The person who died yesterday was also young. It seems like this vaccine produces a negative response in young people's immune systems. That is what is making me worried. The doctor had a hypothesis he was working on, and the treatment from that hypothisis seemed to be working on those who are hospitalized. That's the good news. The bad news is that it seems more and more likely there's a link between the blood clots and the vaccine. Newflash: all of a sudden Germany found 7 similar cases. Hence why they stopped. Maybe there are more cases too that just haven't been reported. The UK has vaccinated millions with it, but not that many young people yet. We'll see what happens there when young people get it. If they react as badly as those in Norway. I have made up my mind. You couldn't pay me to take this vaccine. Risking blood clots and death? No thanks. I'll wait for Pfizer or Moderna.

by Anonymousreply 100March 16, 2021 6:34 AM

But wasn't Covid itself said to cause dangerous blood clotting?

by Anonymousreply 101March 16, 2021 7:08 AM
The BBC’s reporting of this story makes it so clear that, protestations to the contrary, BBC is the UK’s state media. The slant is completely pro-UK and pro-vaccine. Might as well be Pravda.

if the BBC was Pravda it wouldn't have reported on the vaccine issues in Europe. All British broadcasters including ITV, Sky and C4 are covering this as their main story with a disclaimer that experts say there is nothing to worry about. Maybe you'd prefer to watch a Fox news type show where anti vaxxers debate why having a vaccine will kill you or why vaccines are sinful and against god's wishes.

People working in vaccination centres in Britain are already reporting increasing levels of cancellations and DNAs. There's already an active anti-vaxxer misinformation programme underway from the far right, the far left and Russia.

Thankfully Britain has one of the highest levels of vaccine confidence, especially in the older generation most at risk from Covid, who remember getting childhood vaccinations on the NHS when it was first created, they remember the impact of polio vaccines in particular and the introduction of the measles vaccine.

Once again, the numbers getting clots after having taken the vaccine are the same as those getting them without taking the vaccine. You people keep ignoring that fact and then act indignant that we suggest you're anti-vaxxers

by Anonymousreply 103March 16, 2021 8:02 AM

Are you suggesting that the Danish and other European health authorities are anti-vaxxers, r103?

The problem isn't about the number of clots but about the type of clotting and the fact they're being found in younger people.
The Norwegian Medicines Agency on Saturday said it had “received several adverse event reports about younger vaccinated people with bleeding under the skin (tiny dots and /or larger blue patches) after coronavirus vaccination.
“This is serious and can be a sign of reduced blood platelet counts,” it said. “Today, we received three more reports of severe cases of blood clots or brain haemorrhages in younger people who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine. These are now receiving hospital treatment,” it added.

[...]
The medical director of the Norwegian Medicines Agency called AstraZeneca’s statement “unfortunate”.
He also said in response to the company’s statement that statistics alone were not sufficient to rule out any connection.
The large numbers involved, given the amount of doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine already administered, do not point to a connection between the cases and the vaccine.
“But then you have isolated cases, like these four cases in Norway, which have very particular disease situations. There is another way to conduct monitoring of medicines,” Madsen said.
“They will never stand out in statistics because they are so few. But because they are so serious for those they affect, we have to investigate whether they can have any connection to the vaccine,” he added.

Even Swedish Tegnell has paused the vaccine now in Sweden. That says a lot. Remember he was the first to say no to lockdowns etc. He points out it is not the fact that these people got blood clots that is the problem. It is true that people do get blood clots from time to time, but they are usually easy to treat. These types of blood clots that we now see are rare types and they are harder to treat. The fact that these appeared in younger people is another reason for concern. So again, don't come at me with blood clot numbers and statistics as it is not comparable to the rare type the Norwegians got.

by Anonymousreply 106March 16, 2021 10:28 AM

R103 How many times do I have to say it is not the fact that they got blood clots but the RARE TYPE that they got. Tegnell paused it when he got information of the type. At first he too thought like you... people get blood clots. It's unfortunate but it happens. But not this type. This is a whole different beast. And no I am not an anti-waxxer. I got the swineflu vaccine and I will get the coronavirus vaccine. Hopefully Pfizer or Moderna. You cannot fault me for not wanting the AZ-vaccine when I'm in the same age group as those who developed these rare types of blood clots.

by Anonymousreply 107March 16, 2021 10:32 AM

R102 I disagree. Yes, the BBC is reporting on the blood clot issue, but it is still very one-sided and pro-vaccine. They always quote doctors who say blood clots are not unusual, that they have vaccinated millions but don't see the same happening in the UK. Yet I rarely see any mention of the rare and aggressive type of blood clots that the Norwegians and Danish people got. No mention that this rare type is not easily treated with blood thinners. The fact that this is a rare type that is hard to treat and affects young people SHOULD be cause for concern. Yet BBC and others use statistics which really doesn't highlight how serious this is.

And, not coincidentally, Britain is also the least religious country in Europe.

So, an actual lunatic anti-Vaxxer (R116) at last admits it!

by Anonymousreply 117March 16, 2021 2:37 PM

How could this syndrome not show up in the many thousands of vaccinations, through the trials and now the use in the UK and elsewhere?

Could it be batch-dependent - like some producers are not doing it right?

It's weird because one of the things the virus does is affect the blood - like usually thicken it, I think.

by Anonymousreply 118March 16, 2021 2:53 PM

It has shown up, r118. This vaccine has only been used for a couple of months, it's not like it's had such an extensive use. The numbers of blood clot incidents are very small, so this is perhaps why it's not been flagged until there were deaths, but it's not impossible that there is some kind of connection.

The regulators should study it and, if the vaccine does, in very rare instances, result in reduced blood platelets, then it can continue to be used if certain measures are put in place, e.g. not giving the AZ vaccine to people at risk of blood clots, giving blood thinners if there are certain side effects.

People keep forgetting that these vaccines have not been put through their usual trials and tests before use, these are emergency authorisations for emergency situations.

by Anonymousreply 119March 16, 2021 3:03 PM

The Norwegian Medicines Agency notice explains the concerns well.

Norwegian Medicines Agency notified of blood clots and bleeding in younger people after vaccination with AstraZeneca vaccine Published 13.03.2021

The Norwegian Medicine Agency is asking people who had the AstraZeneca vaccine in the last 14 days and who feel increasingly unwell with several large blue patches (skin haemorrhages) more than three days after vaccination, to consult the out-of-hours medical service or their doctor as soon as possible.

The Norwegian Medicines Agency has received several adverse event reports about younger vaccinated people with bleeding under the skin (tiny dots and /or larger blue patches) after coronavirus vaccination. This is serious and can be a sign of reduced blood platelet counts.

Who should seek medical attention? People who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine and feel increasingly unwell more than three days after vaccination, and who notice larger or smaller blue spots in the skin (skin haemorrhages) must consult a doctor or out-of-hours medical service as soon as possible.

Notification of blood clots and brain haemorrhages after vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine Yesterday, the Norwegian Medicines Agency and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) informed about an unexpected death from a brain haemorrhage in Tynset after vaccination with COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca.

Today (March 13), we received three more reports of severe cases of blood clots or brain haemorrhages in younger people who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine. These are now receiving hospital treatment.

Common to these patients is that they have had a reduced number of blood platelets. Blood clots and subsequent brain haemorrhages are a rare condition.

“The NIPH has put the AstraZeneca vaccine on hold in the coronavirus immunisation programme. Now it is the Norwegian Medicines Agency's role to follow up on these suspected side effects and take the necessary measures in this serious situation,” says Geir Bukholm, Director of the Division of Infection Control and Environmental Health at the NIPH.

Similar cases in other countries Similar incidents have been reported in other European countries, and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is considering whether there may be an association with the coronavirus vaccines. So far, no conclusion has been reached.

Looking closely at side effects with reports of blood clots and haemorrhages The NIPH and the Norwegian Medicines Agency have initiated analyses to investigate the association between the vaccine and various forms of blood clots, such as stroke and blood clots in the lungs. These analyses will take time.

The Norwegian Medicines Agency will now look extra closely at reports of blood clots and bleeding for all coronavirus vaccines. We ask healthcare professionals who suspect side effects after vaccination to report them as soon as possible.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has also launched its own investigations into the vaccine.

How to report side effects Healthcare professionals are obliged to report suspected new, unexpected and severe side effects. The staff at NIPH is increased and RELIS is assisting NIPH in handling notifications so they can be processed faster.

Members of the public can report side effects via helsenorge.no, but are encouraged to contact a doctor or other healthcare professional if they suspect severe or unexpected side effects after vaccination.

Hmmm, all very interesting and concerning stuff. I’m not sure what to think, or what course of action to choose.

I’m young (28F), British/living in Wales, and unvaccinated atm. My healthy grandmother and my father got the first AZ jab this month, and so far they are in tip-top shape and aren’t feeling or seeing any sides (knock on wood). My mother is getting her first today.

As for me, though, I won’t be offered one for at least another few months (perhaps not even until the end of summer), and no-one I know of my age has had an offer to get it yet, either. They are leaving the 20-30 something until last.

This thread has me considering passing on the AZ when my number’s up, and instead waiting for another brand. It’s risky, and no-one wants to die of COVID, but as I’ve been a victim of serious medical malpractice in the past (that took a decade off my quality of life) still I am hesitant to blindly trust. I don’t claim to be scientifically-smart or anything, but I do know that doctors and scientists like to play God and sometimes overlook important warning signs out of hubris.

Overall I think I’m in pretty good health (knock on wood, again), I take my Vit D and eat clean, I don’t drink or smoke, I don’t take birth control (that’s what fucked me up medically the first time), I haven’t had too many major health issues in the past (though I have seasonal asthma controlled with inhalers), and I am lucky enough to live in a rural low-populated village with fresh air and open space. I don’t know what to do.

by Anonymousreply 121March 16, 2021 3:07 PM

I expect whatever this is will be resolved one way or another by the time you're eligible, R121.

by Anonymousreply 122March 16, 2021 3:09 PM

R121, this is the NHS we're talking about. You don't get to pick and choose which vaccine you want any more than you get to pick which consultant operates on you.

The vaccine roll out is going better in Wales than any other part of the UK so you'll be called for the first dose within the next 2 months.

The vulnerable groups are all done so the number of walk ins they can do at the mass vaccination centres increasing week on week.

by Anonymousreply 123March 16, 2021 3:47 PM

R123 fair enough. Of course, I wasn’t intending to waltz into a centre, throw a strop and demand a different vaccine.

All I said was that I’d consider possibly politely and quietly passing on the first offer AZ and waiting for something else. It depends what more info comes out ina few weeks or months, and how I feel intuitively at the time. I’m still unsure whether I will pass or not.

The context of my hesitancy is that as a teen I was given (well, pressured and shilled into taking) untested and dangerous medication by GPs in the pocket of a huge corporation. The side effects of this drug almost drove me to suicide or slow death by poisoning. Obviously, one might feel gunshy with that sort of background.

by Anonymousreply 126March 16, 2021 4:26 PM

I had the AZ vaccine last week, had a few days of stiff joints, one day of fever and feel fine again.

The EU reaction to the AZ vaccine is a farce. Firstly, they dithered and did not order enough. Then they said (without evidence) that it would not be effective. They then tried to bully AZ into diverting stocks to the EU which had already ben bought and paid for by other countries.

Having undermined the EU population’s faith in the AZ vaccine, the EU leaders then found it impossible to persuade people to take a vaccine that they had sown such doubt about. This means that France and Germany in particular found that they had stocks of the AZ vaccine which people will not take. So now, to save political face, the EU is pivoting back to saying that it is unsafe, so it doesn’t matter that these doses are going unused, and it is doing this despite the European Medicines Agency and the World Health Organisation saying that the number of clots is perfectly normal for a population of vaccinated persons which is now in the tens of millions. The EU has rubbished the vaccine and is now ignoring its own science authorities to again portray it as unsafe. And like a contagion, this doubt is now spreading.

I just wish the EU and other countries would pass their AZ vaccines on to other countries which could use them, while the EU once again dallies behind as it waits for the Russian vaccine it has decided to put its faith in. The truth is that their actions will kill thousands of its citizens.

by Anonymousreply 127March 16, 2021 5:02 PM

R124 they don't tell you what vaccine is on that day till you get there. If you ask the nurse holding the syringe and then refuse it, there is no guarantee you'll get any of the alternatives offered at any point in the future. Vaccine shopping isn't an option.

by Anonymousreply 128March 16, 2021 5:48 PM

So you'd refuse the vaccine developed by the public sector and produced on a non-profit basis in favour of the ones produced for profit by big pharma? Sure, that makes all the sense in the world.

I took the first of two Mondera injections and suffered nothing more than fatigue and a very sore injection site. It has been over a week and everything seems to be fine, no other side effects. I will get the second one in 3 weeks. I have not heard of the blood clot reaction with this vaccine, however wouldn't they all work the same? Once I had a dangerous reaction to a very common medication. It was manufactured by Teva. It seems the problem was the temperature in the manufacturing plant. It was too high and adulterated the medication, thus resulting in never before seen side effects. Makes me wonder if that could be a factor here.

by Anonymousreply 142March 17, 2021 3:36 PM

Yeah, R142. It seems strange that the same hasn't been seen in the UK manufactured AZ vaccines. I bet there was something fucked up in the manufacturing process for the ones shipped to Norway, Denmark, and the other countries that have seen this issue.

Why are they stopping the vaccine export if the jabs been suspended ?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 144March 18, 2021 12:18 AM

R144, because their approach to vaccines is utterly chaotic, mainly because they did not move fast enough to source vaccines in the first place. The EU put it’s faith in the vaccine being developed by Sanofi, which is not now expected to be ready before the end of the year.

The EU is now threatening to ban the export of a product they have strongly insinuated is ineffective and unsafe! Makes sense.

The European Medicines Agency is expected to announce this week that the Oxford virus is perfectly safe, but of course the damage is done: millions across the EU have been persuaded that it is dangerous and/or ineffective. It will cost lives, and all because a group of politicians won’t admit their original failings.

Two new people dead from blood clots in Norway after getting the AZ-vaccine. We are up to 4 in total now (possibly 5). This vaccine will definitely not be used anymore here. How many of the Norwegian clot cases are women and how many were taking the contraceptive pill?

by Anonymousreply 159March 21, 2021 8:26 PM

R159 I don't know. I remember watching the press conference last week. Back then I think (I'm not 100 % sure) they said no to the question if they were all women. I think there's at least one man, but don't quote me on that. I assume there will be another press conference tomorrow. We'll know more then. There was also a 25 year old healthy man who developed a blood clot from the test phase of J&J. Men can get blood clots too. But we'll see tomorrow. I assume there will be another press conference.

by Anonymousreply 160March 21, 2021 8:44 PM

R160, the point wasn't that men can't get blood clots. Women on birth control pills are at a much higher risk of blood clots in general. Ridiculous that women do this to their bodies so poor little straight men don't have to wear a condom.

by Anonymousreply 161March 21, 2021 9:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 162March 21, 2021 9:06 PM

R151 No, there isn't proof. There's a belief that now needs to be confirmed. Once again, the anti-vaxxers are misrepresenting things. Whilst those looking at actual evidence - such as the EMA and WHO - declare it's safe to use.

Meanwhile, the EU is planning to block exports of the vaccine and ingredients for it.

by Anonymousreply 163March 21, 2021 9:14 PM

Slavish devotion to Big Pharma is no more healthy than spouting ridiculous Anti-Vax nonsense. Relax, guys. Science isn't perfect and vaccines aren't magic. They were developed quickly, with billions of dollars riding on being the first to jab people. These are just realities of the market. There was no opportunity for testing long-term side effects, which means, yes, it could turn out in the future that there are dangerous side effects lurking in some of these vaccines. It could turn out one of the formulas is not safe or is not safe for certain people - which is something that very much should be investigated. Shit like that does happen. Stop asking your governments to lie to you to make you feel better or to protect stock markets or to 'prevent panic'. That never ends well for the people. If there are potential issues, the wisest cautionary move is to pull it for more study.

by Anonymousreply 164March 21, 2021 9:20 PM

R161 According to Dagbladet both men and women got the deadly type of blood clot here in Norway. Most of them were indeed women, but that might be because most health workers are women, hence most people who got the AZ-vaccine are also women.

R163 Norwegian doctors believe there is a link between the AZ-vaccine and the blood clots. They said there's zero per cent chance the immune reaction could have come from anything else than the vaccine. I am not an anti-waxxer. I took the swine flu vaccine and I will take the covid-vaccine when it is offered to me, hopefully Pfizer or Moderna (I'm last in line due to my age). I think you need to look beyond lame insults like anti-waxxers. Many countries have stopped giving this vaccine. There is a reason behind it. Or do you think Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland are all anti-waxxers? Stop defending the vaccine and look at the serious cases of blood clots. Young healthy people are dying from this vaccine and you are still defending it. Smh. I'm glad I live in Norway where the Norwegian health authorities take the blood clot cases seriously. I believe they made the right decision putting the vaccine on pause until they have a conclusion. I support their decision 100 %.

by Anonymousreply 168March 21, 2021 9:32 PM
however, the vaccine may be associated with very rare cases of blood clots associated with thrombocytopenia, i.e. low levels of blood platelets (elements in the blood that help it to clot) with or without bleeding, including rare cases of clots in the vessels draining blood from the brain (CVST)

by Anonymousreply 169March 21, 2021 9:35 PM

R167, the fact that the Norwegian doctors are being drama queens and not acting like responsible scientists is a problem because if it is found, after it's actually studied, that the AZ vaccine was not actually to blame, they've just sunk all the trust in the vaccines and the doctors themselves. The issue has not been conclusively studied in any scientific manner yet. Them stating their opinions as conclusions is the exact opposite of what you want. Suspending the vaccine for further study is fine. Drama queening about it without adequate scientific conclusions being drawn is not.

by Anonymousreply 170March 21, 2021 9:35 PM

Actually r170, it's not just Norwegian doctors:
Researchers at the Greifswald teaching hospital in northern Germany said on Friday that they had discovered the cause of the unusual blood clotting found in some recipients of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, public broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) reported.
The investigation showed how the vaccine caused rare thrombosis in the brain in a small number of patients.
The discovery means that targeted treatment can be offered to those who suffer similar clotting, using a very common medication.

So, it seems that transparency, being honest and acknowledging that there's a problem - rather than sweeping things under the carpet - is the best way to ensure that solutions to potential problems are found. That's how you ensure vaccine confidence.

R173, they may be acting like drama queens because there’s more to it than they’re letting on. It’s always about the bottom line and they have doctors on their payroll who will give statements that they want them to give to calm down a scandal.

by Anonymousreply 176March 21, 2021 9:44 PM

R175, the NHS is a mess. I doubt they’d put it together. The Tories have cut resources.

by Anonymousreply 177March 21, 2021 9:46 PM

R174 We'll see who is right soon enough. In the mean time I trust the Norwegian doctors who said the immune response could not have happened from anything but the vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 178March 21, 2021 9:46 PM

R178, there is literally no way for them to conclusively state that. None.

by Anonymousreply 179March 21, 2021 9:48 PM

R176 Except the "AZ" vaccine wasn't developed by big pharma.

by Anonymousreply 180March 21, 2021 9:56 PM

The Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine was developed by the British government putting pressure on Oxford to release it before it was ready, that's why it's such a mess.

by Anonymousreply 181March 21, 2021 10:22 PM

I'm sure you have proof of that, right R181?

by Anonymousreply 182March 21, 2021 10:24 PM

Looking at a very young Earl Holliman. Wasn't he gay ?

by Anonymousreply 183March 21, 2021 10:25 PM

Statistically there have been fewer blood-clots affecting people vaccinated with AZ than the general population; and there are Pfizer blood-clots as well, that no-one apparently cares about. This whole story is bizarre and one wonders what is behind it. Russia? Some random doctor trying to make a name? Someone is benefitting, while there will be more people dead as a result of the AZ freeze than died from a blood-clot (by a big margin, as there have only been one or two fatalities). . See, R181 is part of this weird pile-n.

by Anonymousreply 184March 21, 2021 10:27 PM

All this boils down to is a lot of Debbie Dumb Fuck who don't want to wear a mask or get vaccinated. The Danes love to think they are smarter than the rest of the world and conspiracy theory nut jobs fall right in line with that thinking.

Oh look, 2 out of 1 million people died after getting vaccinated, SEE I TOLD YOU IT WAS THE VACCINE! There's no such thing as law of averages when it comes to 1 million people. I am smarter than all the scientists in the world and do all my research on Google.

Deb.

by Anonymousreply 185March 21, 2021 10:34 PM

R183- Sorry. That meant for the Giant thread. The DL page keeps going blank, requiring me to reload.

by Anonymousreply 186March 21, 2021 10:40 PM

Just realised I have R181 on ignore. He's a rampant vaccine truther.

by Anonymousreply 187March 21, 2021 10:45 PM

There’s no proof of anything yet. How can either “side” prove their claims?

No vaccine or drug is 100% perfect and free of side effects. So it’s a matter of weighing pros and cons. With the information I have at the moment, I’d say that I’d rather be vaccinated, but I’ll pass on the AZ version of the vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 188March 22, 2021 10:15 AM

R185 Kindly fuck off. Norwegian doctors have already found a link between the vaccine and the deadly blood clots.

by Anonymousreply 189March 22, 2021 10:53 AM

AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine provided strong protection against sickness and eliminated hospitalizations and deaths from the disease across all age groups in a late-stage study in the United States, the company announced Monday.

AstraZeneca said its experts did not identify any safety concerns related to the vaccine, including finding no increased risk of rare blood clots identified in Europe.

AstraZeneca said its COVID-19 vaccine was 79% effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 and was 100% effective in stopping severe disease and hospitalization. Investigators said the vaccine worked across all ages, including older people — something experts had wanted better data on.

So no drug is perfect, but you'll turn one down based on zero actual evidence, R188?

by Anonymousreply 191March 22, 2021 12:51 PM

I think someone asked this upthread and yet it remains unanswered:

Why is Denmark specifically having issues with clotting? Why not the UK and other places where the AZ vaccine is used?

Seems odd.

by Anonymousreply 192March 22, 2021 1:10 PM

It wasn't just Denmark. Norway had cases, so did Italy and Germany and possibly others as well. Norway figured out it had to do with low platelets and from there were able to figure out that for some people the vaccine creates an autoimmune response. The risk is low but it is vaccine related.

"Once diagnosed, the condition should be treated with blood thinning medication and immunoglobulin, which targets the antibody that causes the problem. “We believe the most likely hypothesis is that this particular vaccine is causing a rare autoimmune reaction that triggers antibodies, which then interact with the platelets, but we don’t know why this is happening,”

by Anonymousreply 193March 22, 2021 1:17 PM

I bet there is some genetic component due to something that is more common in the genes of those in the Nordic region. Or, maybe it interacts badly with reindeer meat. Either way, it is so extremely rare that I bet the number of people who've been vaccinated with AZ who've been killed in a car accident is greater than the number who've gotten the blood clots. So, obviously, no one should drive after getting the vaccine, right? Idiots who know nothing about science yet go on and on about it like experts piss me off.

by Anonymousreply 194March 22, 2021 6:26 PM

This woman died of a blood clot due to the AZ-vaccine. She volunteered to help at a health clinic. That is why she got the vaccine and it ended up killing her. She was just 54. May this amazing woman rest in peace.

by Anonymousreply 195March 22, 2021 6:32 PM

R195, now list the thousands of people whose lives have been saved by getting the vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 196March 22, 2021 6:46 PM

Who could have imagined a downside to being Nordic?

by Anonymousreply 197March 22, 2021 7:07 PM

Norway isn't that big of a country so for 3 people in their 30s to die in quick succession of an unusual type of blood clot is going to ring more alarm bells than in many countries.

by Anonymousreply 198March 22, 2021 7:21 PM

It might ring alarm bells for the statistically illiterate, R198. Are Norwegians morons?

by Anonymousreply 199March 22, 2021 9:56 PM

R189 No they haven't. They think they have, but they've so far failed to provide any proof or evidence.

R192 Almost like there's a political dimension to this, isn't it?

by Anonymousreply 200March 23, 2021 3:12 AM

Don't Norwegians drink a lot? Perhaps it's all that Aquavit they consume.

by Anonymousreply 201March 23, 2021 6:11 AM

It's been a week since I had my AstraZeneca jab and I'm still alive!

by Anonymousreply 202March 23, 2021 8:06 AM

AstraZeneca may have cooked the books on their clinical trials.

AZ are selling at cost price for the duration of the pandemic, so I suspect they are being punished for not price-gouging.

by Anonymousreply 204March 23, 2021 9:21 AM

R204 Uh, no. It's because AZ has been killing people.

by Anonymousreply 205March 23, 2021 9:37 AM

R205 no it hasn't.

by Anonymousreply 206March 23, 2021 9:48 AM

I’m getting tired of people saying jab, so please say shot only.

by Anonymousreply 207March 23, 2021 10:54 AM

R206 Doctors who attended the patients who died beg to differ.

by Anonymousreply 208March 23, 2021 11:03 AM

Quote one, then, R208. You anti-AZ trolls aren't even trying hard anymore.

by Anonymousreply 209March 23, 2021 11:29 AM

R204 Quite. When one of these idiots starts going on about share prices you do wonder just how plugged into reality they actually are. It does make me wonder what their actual motivation is. I am starting to wonder if there could be some backing here from the companies like Pfizer who are selling their vaccines at profit, perhaps they don't want the competition?

by Anonymousreply 210March 23, 2021 11:42 AM

This thread was brought to you by Breitbart. Or some alt-right outlet in Hungary.

by Anonymousreply 211March 23, 2021 12:12 PM

From Norwegian doctors:

The conclusion is now that a strong immune response after vaccination has led to blood clots.

According to Holme, the explanation is that the immune response has led to the formation of antibodies that have caused the platelets to act in a way that blood clots have formed.

In Italy, a teacher died hours after receiving AZ.

by Anonymousreply 214March 23, 2021 12:57 PM

Italy suspended the use of AZ after 2 men in Italy died shortly after receiving the vaccine.

"...Stefano Paterno, a 43-year-old navy officer, and Davide Villa, a 50-year-old policeman, who had both received shots from AstraZeneca's ABV2856 batch.

Paterno died of a suspected heart attack on Tuesday, the day after his shot. Villa died at the weekend, some 12 days after his inoculation.

Local newspapers said he fell ill within 24 hours of his injection, and reported that doctors had diagnosed a deep vein thrombosis, which later resulted in a brain haemorrhage."

R213 and R215 being the same poster posting about the same story, trying to pretend to be two different posters.

by Anonymousreply 216March 23, 2021 1:01 PM

No, I'm not. You're an idiot R214. You must have a vested interest in AZ. People are dying shortly after getting AZ. It's not a coincidence.

by Anonymousreply 217March 23, 2021 1:09 PM

Then why did you post two different links about the exact same story? And once again:
The Italian government has said there was no evidence of a connection between the deaths and the jabs and has allowed the AstraZeneca vaccine to continue to be administered.

As for having a "vested interest" in AZ - which I don't - explain to me how exactly such an interest would be benefited by a vaccine from which they don't make a profit.

I also note you've failed to meet R209's challenge

by Anonymousreply 218March 23, 2021 1:12 PM

AstraZeneca lying to the press, the public and the authorities to try and get its vaccine authorised in the US.

Tuesday, March 23, 2021

NIAID Statement on AstraZeneca Vaccine

Late Monday, the Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) notified NIAID, BARDA, and AstraZeneca that it was concerned by information released by AstraZeneca on initial data from its COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial. The DSMB expressed concern that AstraZeneca may have included outdated information from that trial, which may have provided an incomplete view of the efficacy data. We urge the company to work with the DSMB to review the efficacy data and ensure the most accurate, up-to-date efficacy data be made public as quickly as possible.

Authorization and guidelines for use of the vaccine in the United States will be determined by the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after thorough review of the data by independent advisory committees.

Jesus Christ. Reading this thread worries the hell out of me.

All of Australia is getting the dud AstraZeneca vaccine. We have no other choice. No choice at all.

by Anonymousreply 220March 23, 2021 1:25 PM

R220 Well, if you're worried by claims which have no evidence or proof provided, you're an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 221March 23, 2021 1:27 PM

r220 Then don't get it. I doubt they're tying you down and putting a needle in your arm.

by Anonymousreply 222March 23, 2021 1:28 PM

USA got outdated information from the AstraZeneca company about the AZ vaccine trials. Now they have to gather more information themselves before they reach a conclusion.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 223March 23, 2021 1:29 PM

The problem about the AZ vaccine r221, is that there's no real proof of anything about it. All the data about it is confused, contradictory, or even downright lies.

by Anonymousreply 224March 23, 2021 1:30 PM

R224 Any proof for those claims? Nope, of course not.

by Anonymousreply 225March 23, 2021 1:31 PM

R225 see R223. The company gave the US outdated information, according to The New York Times.

by Anonymousreply 226March 23, 2021 1:34 PM

R226 And they've already committed to providing regulators with the data they've requested. None of that is "confused, contradictory or even downright lies".

by Anonymousreply 227March 23, 2021 1:35 PM

Germany has found the same link as Norway. They looked at 13 cases were people had blood clots after the vaccine and found what Norway found in 4 of them - all younger women (same as Norway). For a very small number of people the vaccine seems to cause an immune response that includes clotting.

by Anonymousreply 229March 23, 2021 1:40 PM

If you’ve had covid, I know you can get it again. I wonder if subsequent cases can be as bad or worse?

by Anonymousreply 230March 23, 2021 1:44 PM
I wonder if subsequent cases can be as bad or worse?

Yes, they can be. They can also be more mild and even asymptomatic. This virus is nothing if not unpredictable. Or, at least, we don't have the capabilities to predict it yet.

by Anonymousreply 231March 23, 2021 1:51 PM

R227, of course they have to commit to providing the correct data, but this should already have been done. Why issue a press release with outdated information that perhaps gives a misleading view of the efficacy of their vaccine?

by Anonymousreply 232March 23, 2021 1:51 PM
AstraZeneca defended the data that it released on Monday, which showed the vaccine was 79 percent effective at preventing Covid-19. The company said in a statement on Tuesday that the interim results, which were current as of Feb. 17, appeared to be “consistent” with more recent data collected during the trial. AstraZeneca said it would immediately share its latest efficacy data with the monitoring board. The company said it would reissue fuller results within 48 hours.

Have any new strains come out in the last month that would make data collected in mid February less useful?

by Anonymousreply 233March 23, 2021 2:01 PM

So after we achieve herd immunity - if we ever do - will people go back to dying from the flu? Will we even bother continuing to test people for covid 19?

by Anonymousreply 234March 23, 2021 2:04 PM

People are dying from the flu now, idiot. But you knew that.

And I can’t imagine why a hospital would continue to test for COVID-19. I mean, why on earth would you want to properly diagnose and treat your patient?

by Anonymousreply 235March 23, 2021 2:24 PM
so please say shot only.

That’s triggering.

by Anonymousreply 236March 23, 2021 2:25 PM
According to Holme, the explanation is that the immune response has led to the formation of antibodies that have caused the platelets to act in a way that blood clots have formed.

That is the least "doctor" thing I've ever heard a doctor say. Complete nebulous word stew. What this actually says is they don't know what happened. Antibodies caused platelets to clot? Sure, doc. Got any actual, ya know, details about the mechanism of any of this?

by Anonymousreply 237March 23, 2021 5:35 PM
30 incidents. 5 million vaccinated.

R24 Exactly - that is 0.000006 - so extremely low

by Anonymousreply 238March 23, 2021 5:43 PM

R234 - asshole - I meant the deaths from covid have offset the deaths from the flu. That is, while people are still dying from the flu, the rates of flu deaths have decreased and been replaced by covid deaths. But you knew that. So yeah, will we continue to test for covid in the future, or will we just assume it’s a flu related death?

by Anonymousreply 239March 23, 2021 11:42 PM
I meant the deaths from covid have offset the deaths from the flu

That’s why surplus deaths is the most important statistic. The total number of “Covid deaths” hides the fact that many of those people would have died from other causes at some point during the pandemic period.

by Anonymousreply 240March 24, 2021 12:50 AM

How unsurprising that our resident trolls have decided not to post today's news that the updated data from the US trial shows nothing of concern.

To anyone genuinely concerned about this issue, all I'd ask is that you take a moment and ask yourself why they didn't post it, when they post every other article they can about AstraZeneca. And then read the articles they do link to, and ask yourself if what's contained in the article actually does match up with what they claim in the post.

R84/R132 I’m British, and got the Pfizer 1 a few days ago. In the morning I’m going to get blood tests, because my doctor is concerned by the appeareance of petrechia (bloodspots) on my skin among other symptoms like breathlessness, itchy skin, very red feet, and what feels like fillibration/throat pulses. Not sure what’s going on, and I feel too anxious to sleep.

Scan-reading official data from Pfizer, recorded and reported thrombotic events and embolism as well as anaemia side effects of their vaccine are more common than the company implied.
