Rublev is through to the Doha SF without playing a match (1st round bye + 2 walkovers)
Here's an old picture of him with short hair, he looks a little like Willem Dafoe
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 11, 2021 1:40 PM |
The Rune-Paire is the result you get when one of the players want to win and take the opportunity (Rune already jumped almost 100 positions on the ranking) and the other player don't give a fuck.
Humbert's afro is a little distracting
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 11, 2021 2:06 PM |
Not as distracting as Rune's whatever you call that. Reminds me of Pippi Longstocking.
Fed looked old and slow in his loss against Basil today.

R3 thanks for the correction.

R7 Yes, Rune was very experimental with his hair yesterday but Humbert's curly hair appeared out of nowhere
Muguruza defeated Sabalenka again, and again it was a tough match (Muguruza had pretty tough draws in all her tournaments this year). Gauff lost against Teichmann

Holger Rune's mom reveals the reason behind his hairstyle:
[italic]"All hairdressers have been closed since December in Denmark, and on tournaments we are only allowed to go from the site to the hotel - so we used rubber bands from face masks in his hair to take it away from the face"[/italic]
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 11, 2021 6:48 PM |
he has to be careful the bands don't pull his hair out
it would suck to be bald before you're 21
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 11, 2021 6:49 PM |
He really is a spoiled little diva. It's not "bla bla bla". He is lucky to be able to carry on with his job while millions are out of work and millions unable to afford food, home etc
for him to blame his outbursts on dealing with covid restrictions on the tennis circuit is completely tone deaf and absurd.
I hope he drops out of the top 100. His forehand has always sucked anyway
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 11, 2021 8:07 PM |
R13, I sometimes wonder if an erratic player like Paire is involved in gambling or match-fixing. He's the perfect player for that: no one questions it when he tanks a set, or a whole match.

LOL at Judy R28 still clinging to the "Big Four" myth. Misery was never part of any such group. Gramps, Pedal and Chokerbitch were always in a league of their own with Misery in the next rung down along with Stan. The Brit media were always full of shit claiming that Misery was as good as the Big Three.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 12, 2021 6:28 PM |
But that doesn't change the fact that Murray was the only player capable of being number one during the big 3 domination (and not a numbe one like Pliskova, he was number one because for a while he was clearly the best player out there). He had a bad balance at GS finals, but he reached a good amount of them and won a lot of big titles.
Stan is not even close Murray and he even said that on interviews
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 12, 2021 6:37 PM |
And Tsitsipas lost to Herbert.
I can't wait for the next child prodigy to rise and prevent this next gen guys to win GS after the big 3 retirement
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 12, 2021 6:42 PM |
R44 Stan is beter player, no doubt about that. And he had to beat No1 every time when he won gsfinals. not like Murray.

by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 12, 2021 6:59 PM |
R48 Of course he did. jesus. What he was supposed to say. "No , I am better"? We don't know what he really thinks actually
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 12, 2021 7:04 PM |
On paper Murray is better, He got more titles. But comparing them at their peaks, Stan is better.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 12, 2021 7:06 PM |
Stan team/Wawrinka team or Misery team?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 12, 2021 7:09 PM |
Stan's career is not even close of Murray's career.
Stan is great from time to time but way more irregular player
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 12, 2021 7:18 PM |
R52 I just said it. He is not consistent, but that doesnt change the fact that he is the better one when they are on.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 12, 2021 7:24 PM |
Miz, who's been in 9 GS finals vs. Stan's 4. Murray has won 46 ATP titles vs. Wawrinka's 16, and he's been in 68 ATP finals vs. Stan's 30. Murray is 12-9 in their head to head. Also throw in Murray's two Olympic golds plus a year-end championship.
And to Mr. Condescending at R49, Wawrinka is emphatic about Murray being the better player. He's not hemming and hawing about it or qualifying it in the egotistical way that someone like Djokovic would with his false platitudes.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 12, 2021 7:25 PM |
Correction, Murray with 11 GS finals.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 12, 2021 7:27 PM |
R54 So Murray lost 8 GS finals, stan only 1 ;)
Stan said what he was supposed to say,he is nice a guy( in the media at least).
Stan said what he was supposed to say,he is nice a guy
He's a cry baby!
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 12, 2021 7:38 PM |
Wawrinka's peak level is higher than Murray's. Murray has been much more consistently a top player though. Wawrinka didn't start winning and threatening to win big titles until his late 20s. Until that point, Wawrinka was just another top 50 player whose forehand would break down at key moments. He tightened that up (it still fails him in the matches he loses but not as much) and got fitter.
Now that Wawrinka is into his mid 30s it seems like he's hit a wall and struggling so I'm not sure how much more of a factor he'll be.
I was never a fan of Murray's game but I like him more off court. It's a shame he needed hip surgery. I hope he can recover his level somewhat.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 12, 2021 7:55 PM |
Who has the better ass, legs and/or face - Stan or Misery?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 12, 2021 7:59 PM |
R59 Exactly, I think he achieved a lot anyway with such late peaking.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 12, 2021 8:03 PM |
Unfortunately this is likely to be the last year that we see Stan, Murray or Fed in the ATP. That wall they've hit looks pretty solid.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 12, 2021 8:06 PM |
I hope Djokovic hits a wall soon. Unfortunately hes probably at least 4 years off from a big letdown.

Misery has had a better career than Stan but in the overall context of their standing in the game he's in the B-minus league with Stan or Cames Jourier.
A+ Gramps, Pedal, Novaxx, Laver, Sampy
A Borg
B+ Lendl, McEnroe, Connors, Wilander
B Edberg, Becker, Rosewall
B- Misery, Stan, Cames, Vilas, Newk
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 12, 2021 9:26 PM |
I love Stan, but he was no where near as good as Murray in their primes. Murray won more overall titles, more masters, has a YE number one, and has played in more GS finals.

I'll redo R65 (Open Era only):
A+: Rafa, Fed, Novak, Laver
A: Pete, Borg
B+: Connors, Mac, Agassi, Llendl
B: Edberg, Becker, Wilander, Rosewall
B-: Vilas, Courier, Nastase, Ashe, Murray
The rest of the best: Stan, Hewitt, Kuerten
by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 12, 2021 10:53 PM |
There is zero doubt that Pete Sampras belongs in the A+ group. That isn't even close.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 12, 2021 10:57 PM |
I STILL THINK sampras is the greatest fast court player of all time.... give him today's rackets and string technology! he would be downright scary! i also think he is or at least one of the greatest ATHLETES tennis has ever seen! no one has his leaping ability vertical when hitting a overhead, he also has perhaps the best RUNNING forehand i've ever seen...

Pencil, do you smell of Chrissy Pussy? We know where you have been?
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 13, 2021 5:59 AM |
R71, Pete is great no doubt. But his utter lack of anything of note on clay was his downfall. It's not like he lost a few close French finals. Or even reached a French final.
Plus, the big three have more masters and overall titles too. I think only Rafa has less weeks at number one. Pete just isn't in their category stats wise. And, yeah, the game is more than stats, but when it's so far out of reach? By just about every metric? And they played in very close eras time wise (unlike Laver)?
Hard to look past those things.
Fed, Rafa, and Nole can win on any surface. Though, like Pete, they dominate on one surface in particular.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | March 13, 2021 6:31 AM |
Darth Shagassi at R65, you won some titles but you are penalized for marrying Stabbi. All your titles and all of Stabbi's titles belong to Our Goddess Szeles Monika of Novi Sad.
Wilander belongs in the B+ group with Lendl, Connors and McEnroe. Gugu was an overrated, phony-as-hell, clay specialist who doesn't belong in any conversation about all time greats.
In the name of the Father, the Daughter and the Holy Groundstrokes, ahhh eeeee......
Fed, Rafa, and Nole can win on any surface. Though, like Pete, they dominate on one surface in particular.
Give 'em 90's rackets, strings and the faster grass courts from Wimbledon like they used to have and the baseline grinders like Novaxxx or Pedal wouldn't stand a chance against the best net rushers like Sampras. They are able to win on all surfaces now because every fucking surface has been slowed down and the monstrous modern rackets and strings have made it almost impossible to serve and volley constantly even on grass, for fuck's sake.
If they had sped up clay in Pete's day like they slowed down grass in the last two decades, Sampy might have won a French Open too.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 13, 2021 7:59 AM |
R81 Federer could compete with Sampras on fastest courts without a problem with the big difference he is way better player on clay

Hearing rumours Sabalenka is pregnant.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 13, 2021 10:09 AM |
I had always heard or read that SAMPRAS simply didn't put much effort to winning on clay, at the french... he played it because it was a grand slam and ONLY for that reason, he was ALWAYS concentrating pretty much year round on wimbledon and then the u.s. open...
i believe the general consensus was this as well as if sampras had truly worked hard and concentrated on winning a french title (to the extent of ignoring his favorite tournament wimbledon only 2 weeks later, but preparation for that 1 single slam weeks in advance), he had the talent to do so...
by Anonymous | reply 85 | March 13, 2021 10:13 AM |
Sorry but no.
Sampras was simply not good enough at clay and at that time there were a good bunch of pretty good clay players.
We are not talking about Federer or Nole who reached the final a lot of times (even without their title they were clearly able to win the tournament), Sampras lost in the first round a lot of times, and reached semifinals only one time. (the year the court was way faster than usual).

this week's draws are out
Monterrey for the ladies seems like almost anyone in the draw could win. The seeds aren't in the best of form except for Guadalajara champ Sorribes Tormo.
St. Petersburg has a stronger field which is surprising given how much father away from Miami it is. I'll be interested to see Kasatkina vs. new Dane wonder Tauson in the first round
Dubai has a very decent field, most of the Doha list and some of the players who had been in France the last couple weeks as well. Main draw is already underway as 2021's surprise Karatsev picked up a win over Gerasimov and Nishikori took down giant Opelka
Acapulco has a nice draw too. Tsitsipas after playing 2 weeks in France is the top seed and he has drawn spoiled temperamental diva Paire in the opening round. New father A. Zverev is #2 seed. There are a number of potentially nice first round matches, even between unseeded players.

FAA tried to choke against Sandgren for the second time (as he did last summer) but fortunately closed it out in 2 sets.

Stephens is in the worst slump we've ever seen from a top player. Losing to Kucova 2-6 2-6 is just an embarrassment.
This is Stephens' third straight year starting off in garbage form. I think she's going to retire if she doesn't turn things around by the clay season.

R165 Is she a "top player" though? Even after her US Open win she's never really been described as one.
She's won 7 WTA titles in her entire career. Muguruza has won 8 and has had a similar drop off in form in recent years, but Muguruza is still considered dangerous and a "top player". Stephens has never really had that air about her.

R167 briefly. She first made noise with that 2013 AO SF and then backed it up with a Wimbledon QF run.
Then in 2014 her form fell off
In 2015 she started off poorly but won her first title in DC.
In 2016 she won 3 titles including Charleston before suffering a foot injury that required surgery.
Then in 2017 just a few months after returning to the tour, she wins the USO
In 2018 she won Miami and reached the RG, Rogers Cup and YEC finals. She was just a few games away from being a 2-time slam champ.
Since 2019 she has been in horrific form though
by Anonymous | reply 169 | March 16, 2021 10:17 PM |
if you saw the match today, Sloane was missing put-away shots and even multiple neutral rally balls. For whatever reason her footwork is unbelievably bad. Even on a bad day she should be able to beat players outside the top 50.
The form she's in now would probably result in her losing in the opening rounds of challengers, ITFs, junior and college tennis. It's pretty inexplicable why she can't maintain a consistently top 20 level with all her abilities. When she's in form, her forehand is a weapon, she moves well, solid serve and can volley. Right now she can't seem to even set up for rally shots.

R167 Muguruza had some erratic years, but she generally rises her level at big events and everybody knows that when she is motivated she is someone to be fear.
Stephen is a natural shotmaking, she has a lot of talent but she seems not focused most of the times. She could be a contender for the big titles but the truth is she barely played her best a couple of times at GS.

It seems Bublik mocked Sinner's dedication, he said something like he only knows to play tennis and at his age he used to go out and drink some bears.
I hope he doesn't hear what Musetti said because Lorenzo even said he doesn't have time for a girlfriend because tennis is all that matter for him right now
by Anonymous | reply 180 | March 17, 2021 1:52 PM |
And even i follow tennis i don't have that much interest in players lives, so it was a suprise reading some interviews to young players how many times they are questioned about their love life.
I remember interviews with Carlos Alcaraz and Carlos Gimeno Valero being quetioned directly if they had a girlfriend (i think both were minors at the time of the interview). Both skipped the question.
I don't think the direct approach is the best in these cases (if you want them to tell you something)

Can anyone make sense of the ATP ranking system's new changes? It's all askew. For example, players get to keep their Monte Carlo 2019 points until Monte Carlo 2022 even though Monte Carlo is being played this year, yet players will lose their 2019 Miami points after Miami 2021. Fognini keeps his 1,000 Monte Carlo points from 2019 for three years even though he's been playing nowhere near that level ever since...

The Big 3 is a misnomer these days. Federer isn't a real contender any more. He might have one more Wimbledon title in him, but not at the level he demonstrated in his short-lived return.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | March 19, 2021 11:04 PM |
R231 your right. At the grand slams it's really just the big 2. And Nadal only at the French.
by Anonymous | reply 232 | March 19, 2021 11:29 PM |
lol Djokovic cited covid restrictions as his reason for pulling out of Miami. Nadal, Federer, Thiem and Wawrinka are also out. Nadal says he still has back issues but we know he'll be perfect for clay. Thiem and Wawrinka want to practice for clay too
it's a bummer but at least the young top players will all be there.
I'm thrilled that Dubai will see a first time title winner. Harris has really exceeded expectations this week with most of his wins. Karatsev is the clear favorite though. He has some serious power and is up there with Rublev, SInner and Thiem as 1 of the hardest hitters in the game. I want to see Karatsev take on Nadal and Djokovic as he gets more comfortable on the pro tour. I think Karastev could be hell to play on grass

R249 How is the Big Four a myth? The Big Three is without doubt but also a separate idea. The Big Four did exist for a time - no-one's suggesting Murray is up there with the Three in terms of achievements, but he's well ahead of anyone else and for a time was consistently getting in their way.
The Big Five was a thing for a while, and that's where the real rabid argument is.

R244 Frankly of all the wc Murray and Alcaraz are the ones i thought nobody will question. Andy is a 3 GS champion and a top player for more than a decade.
It's way more difficult to explain why Shintaro Mochizuki received a wc (apart of the IMG deal). Yes he is a former junior number 1 and Wimbledon champion, but the truth is he is not winning at a itf 15k level right now, so totally wasted wc. At least Kodat is american and he is doing better than Mochizuki right now

Looks like we run the full range of taste on this board. Maybe it's a top vs. bottom thing. Karatsev repulses me, while I'd like to give Harris the pounding of his life.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | March 20, 2021 4:16 PM |
Harris's hair is just tragic.
How dare you!
by Anonymous | reply 260 | March 20, 2021 4:18 PM |
Harris has a banging bod, and is growing into his face - if that's a thing. Think he could be seriously hot in a few years (with a haircut). Karatsev oozes BDA.
by Anonymous | reply 261 | March 20, 2021 4:30 PM |
I love Karatsev's quiet dominant alpha top energy.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | March 20, 2021 4:31 PM |
Karatsev is russian and he was investigated for match fixing, i don't know but something tells me he is not gay friendly.
Anyway, he has a lot of merit. he made an impact at Australia and now is proving the hype was not wrong
by Anonymous | reply 263 | March 20, 2021 6:55 PM |
R263, Karatsev has an interesting background, he grew up in Israel, so I don’t know how closed-minded he might be.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | March 20, 2021 7:21 PM |
And Harris has great hair but and awful haircut. I'm not a fan of Tsitsipas Jesuscrhist superstar look, but his haircut is way better than Harris'
by Anonymous | reply 265 | March 20, 2021 7:33 PM |
R209..i would also include ANDUJAR among your top 10 of handsomest players..
by Anonymous | reply 266 | March 20, 2021 7:57 PM |
Harris capped works.
My 10 are quirkier: FAA, PCB, Hurkacz, Monfils, J. Sousa, Hoang, Djere, Mmoh, Harris and McDonald
by Anonymous | reply 267 | March 20, 2021 8:37 PM |
R263 I won't be surprised if >90% of challenger/futures players who don't have wealthy daddies to support their career are/were involved in match fixing. I personally don't have a problem with it since tennis is a very expensive sports. I would hate to see poor people get locked out from competing just because they don't have a privileged background. If losing a few challenger matches on purpose means they can have the money to cover their expenses for another year then go for it until ATP actually do more to support lower ranked players.

Ok - finals in Acapulco on TC now.
Team Sasha or Team Titsy?
I’d like to see Titsy but am hoping for a good match. Who’s serve will fall apart first?
by Anonymous | reply 269 | March 21, 2021 3:14 AM |
lmfao Zverev just completely missed an overhead. Didn't make contact with the ball. Fucking hilarious
team Tsitsipas. With all the negative drama and rumors about Zverev I could never cheer for him. Stefanos has won their last 5 matches too
by Anonymous | reply 270 | March 21, 2021 3:20 AM |
Ooof that was a rough first 3 games for Sasha. Yikes. The TsitsipASS is looking excellent in white shorts. It’s magnificent.
by Anonymous | reply 271 | March 21, 2021 3:25 AM |
Tsitsipas is showing power, speed and great variety in this match. Zverev doesn't know what to do against that and is feeling the pressure
R272 lol Tsitsipas' father said he was eager to come to Acapulco and playing the last 2 weeks in cold, indoor Europe depressed him
by Anonymous | reply 273 | March 21, 2021 3:38 AM |
Titsy team or A. Zverev team?
by Anonymous | reply 274 | March 21, 2021 3:39 AM |
Which white make players have yellow skin?
by Anonymous | reply 275 | March 21, 2021 3:40 AM |
Here at DL we seem to be Team Titsy.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | March 21, 2021 3:43 AM |
That's a great picture of him in R272. Just need to somehow wipe out those two ugly grey boxes.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | March 21, 2021 3:44 AM |
Good for Sasha. He bullied his way back into the set and Titsy just doubled on break point. 😎
by Anonymous | reply 278 | March 21, 2021 3:55 AM |
wow inexplicably Tsitsipas started falling apart after almost tripping at 4-1 and break point on Zverev's serve
now Zverev is up 6-4
by Anonymous | reply 279 | March 21, 2021 4:02 AM |
This second set is TIGHT. 😎
by Anonymous | reply 280 | March 21, 2021 5:24 AM |
yucky result
Tsitsipas has turned into a headcase too
Zverev won despite numerous double faults
by Anonymous | reply 281 | March 21, 2021 5:33 AM |
Ok that trophy in Acapulco is heinous.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | March 21, 2021 5:57 AM |
Heinous trophy for a heinous human.
by Anonymous | reply 283 | March 21, 2021 5:59 AM |
Did anyone noticed the short-shorts Tsitsipas‘a father was wearing when they walked in together?
by Anonymous | reply 284 | March 21, 2021 10:17 AM |
There's absolutely no one of the young players who showed signs of being mentally strong
by Anonymous | reply 285 | March 21, 2021 11:10 AM |
The younger players are all such mental midgets that Novaxxx will still be winning his 18th Australian Open title and Pedal his 23rd Roland Garros title a decade from now. Gramps will come out of retirement to win a 9th Wimbledon one year when Novaxxx is injured.
Judy will still be moaning Andy's name while pleasuring herself and yelling "Big Four. My lover is part of the Big Four. He is one of the GOATS, is my sweetheart." every once in a while like a deranged Stepford robot with a Scots accent.
Granny Vee will be losing in the first round of qualifiers, Kenin Kardenne and Gauff will be bitching about the arrogant young new kid on the block, Olympia Ohanian, who has been proclaiming that she is already the GOAT even before playing a tour match. Chrissy will be putting the pencil down temporarily to marry her 12th husband before divorcing him three weeks later after finding him in a menage a trois with Margaret Court and Pam Shriver.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | March 21, 2021 11:40 AM |
Poor Titsy. I bet his hole needs some love right now.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | March 21, 2021 11:43 AM |
I don't get the appeal of Tsitsipas. He is too feminine and pretentious.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | March 21, 2021 12:34 PM |
R288 Maybe but at least he has a personality. Not that the personality is likeable but at least he has one.
The problem with Roger and Rafa is that everybody noticed that they were treated better by the press and they never shared an oppinion and that's the standard now.
You don't need to behave like Kyrgios or Paire, but the truth is most players seem to not have anything interesting to say
by Anonymous | reply 290 | March 21, 2021 12:42 PM |
With Covid raging and the South Beach lockdown, it doesn’t look good for the Miami tournament. Attendance keeps getting more and more restricted.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | March 21, 2021 12:44 PM |
Why do Russians put on these ridiculous performance spectacles at sporting events?
by Anonymous | reply 292 | March 21, 2021 2:58 PM |
R288, can you given examples/clips of Tsitsipas being feminine and pretentious. I don’t see that at all. I’ve seen some of his off-court Instagrams from when he travels, as well as some other videos of him, and he seems like one of the nicest down-to-earth players. Other than his long hair, I don’t see that he’s feminine.

by Anonymous | reply 295 | March 21, 2021 8:51 PM |
Her bi husband wants another child?
by Anonymous | reply 296 | March 21, 2021 8:53 PM |
Serena's husband is bi? I've never heard that gossip before.
by Anonymous | reply 297 | March 21, 2021 8:56 PM |
R297 Yes, Serena Williams husband is bisexual and has had male lovers but Serena does not care. They both got a good deal with each other and they are not going to screw it up.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | March 21, 2021 8:58 PM |
R298, now that you say it, it seems plausible, but I, too, had never heard that before.
by Anonymous | reply 299 | March 21, 2021 9:10 PM |
Isn't Serena a super-religious Jehovah's Witness? I find it hard to believe she'd be OK with a bisexual husband who has male lovers on the side?
by Anonymous | reply 300 | March 21, 2021 9:10 PM |
R300 Well, maybe she is superreligious but she is the one who said that she felt like a gay man in a woman body.
People can say a lot of things about Serena, but an homophobe is is not
by Anonymous | reply 301 | March 21, 2021 9:13 PM |
There have been bi rumours about everyone Serena's ever been linked with, though I think that's more to do with people deciding they'd have to be into men to be into her. It's a bit shitty.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | March 21, 2021 9:13 PM |
Well, at least Grigor rumours had nothing to do with Serena
by Anonymous | reply 303 | March 21, 2021 9:21 PM |
Isn't Grigor going out with some oligarch's daughter? That doesn't sound like the kind of situation one would want to get into if it was just bearding and he's hardly on the poverty line.
by Anonymous | reply 304 | March 21, 2021 9:26 PM |
R304 Dunno, all of his relationships seem so fake. Maybe he is not gay/bi but he is fame whore for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 305 | March 21, 2021 9:32 PM |
R304 I don't think he is bearding, i just say the rumours about him doesn't have anything to do with Serena because they were previous to him dating Serena.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | March 21, 2021 9:32 PM |
Is Serena pregnant again?
She said she had to withdraw because of recent oral surgery (?)
by Anonymous | reply 307 | March 21, 2021 9:37 PM |
Are they doing any COVID testing or protocols for this swing through the Americas? It seems like there was no testing down in South America or in Acapulco and now players arrive in Miami from Europe and elsewhere and immediately start practicing and going to nightclubs and restuarants. Benoit Paire was eating at the Waffle House!!!
by Anonymous | reply 308 | March 21, 2021 9:44 PM |
[italic]Players will not have to quarantine in the same way as they did at the Australian Open, with the United States not asking people to stay in a specific hotel. Players will be tested on arrival and must then quarantine in their hotel room until they receive a negative result. Players will then be tested four days after their first test. In order to try to limit potential exposure to the virus, players will have to move only between their hotel and the tournament site.[/italic]

Paire is a moron. If his ranking drops too low he'll never get WCs at this point. Tournament directors must hate him. He's now admitting he tanks matches so he can have more free time around the city of an event? I can't stand him

some interesting first matches, notably

Evil! Filth! If Venus is indeed that thing you accuse her of being God has well and truly punished her by making her a perennial runner-up to her God-fearing heterosexual sister. Oh Lord! When will you rescue women's tennis from the evil clutches of the Billy John Drag King and NavROTilover clique? Whatever happened to real women who looked like women and submitted to their husbands? Like the elegant and beautiful Chrissy Evert?
Now if you'll excuse us, Wendy Turnbull and I need to get out of these clothes and soak in the tub while we read our Bibles.

You'd THINK that Paire would realize he's not a draw, and can't rake in big bucks from exhibitions. I can't see him generating any off-court income. I wonder if he'll realize that he only has a slim timeline to generate serious bucks, not just for now, but his future. Right? Is he just that far gone already?

Pospisil is being a whiny little bitch in his 1st round Miami match against McDonald. Just smashed his racket against the ground, got a warning for racket abuse and then stomped on his racket and completely demolished it, which got him a point penalty. After that he called the umpire a "fucking asshole" and threatened to sue the ATP. First set, McDonald.
by Anonymous | reply 336 | March 24, 2021 10:30 PM |
Pospisil is not being a whiny little bitch. He's pissed because for decades and decades and decades the players have wanted more say (and more $$) from the tour, as all male pros in other major sports do, and he tried to make a little headway on the issue and Gaudenzi ripped him a new asshole about it. He's justifiably angry and his anger is spilling out on the court. He called Gaudenzi a fucking asshole, not the umpire, R336. And he just won the second set.
I don't know why he and Novak even bother. They stuck their necks out and just get shit on by everyone. So leave it alone, I say. The men can let guys like Gaudenzi pretend to fix the tour, when in fact nothing will change at all. And Rafa and Roger want these changes too, but they're happy to let others take the heat.
by Anonymous | reply 337 | March 24, 2021 11:11 PM |
No matter how angry he is, that's no excuse to take it out on the umpire.
by Anonymous | reply 338 | March 24, 2021 11:26 PM |
r333, I always look forward to see what Venus is wearing, she's had some stunning outfits over the years but that thing on her head is hideous. At first, I thought it was some anti-plastic, eco statement because I thought it was recycled trash bags. Up close, it looks like rope which most people would not want wrapped around their head, for various reasons.
The rest looks like a Junior Miss ice skating outfit. Weird.
BTW Who does she fuck? She said she would never marry because her husband would control the money but that could mean I'm a lesbian in the closet. Has she ever publicly been linked with anyone? Gaby Sabatini? Queen Latifah?
by Anonymous | reply 339 | March 25, 2021 6:03 PM |
So has Muriel finally managed to kill the Gays and Tennis threads? I can’t keep the threads in my Watched list any more, and like most once loyal posters am sick of looking it up every time I want to contribute.
Has anyone ever understood why Muriel hates tennis so much? Is she the Queen Mother and Elizabeth Windsor in disguise, or just part of their cabal?
by Anonymous | reply 340 | March 28, 2021 7:54 AM |
I've wondered that too. I can't imagine what would be so offensive about tennis when there are umpteen many more obvious threads that could offend at any given time.
Suggestions for alternative tennis chats, R340 0r anyone else?
Ridiculous that we have to rally with DL about something so truly tame.
by Anonymous | reply 341 | March 28, 2021 10:58 AM |

But Muriel behaviour with the tennis threads is absurd anyway

R343, eliminate a number of your “watched” threads, and you will be able to save this thread. We can only watch a limited number of threads now.
by Anonymous | reply 344 | March 28, 2021 10:09 PM |
R342, I entered "The Gays and Tennis Part 70" and it doesn't show.
I pay my stinkin' monthly fee and I still can't find anything.
This is asinine--the whole paywalling and blocking...toward what end? A measly few bucks, if that? Sheer bitchiness?
by Anonymous | reply 345 | March 29, 2021 12:39 AM |
R345, agreed that the thread watch and the search function on DL is a disaster. There's no logic to it regardless of how many threads are set to be watched. Tennis threads though are usually the first to drop off the watch list for me too. I tried to post the link but it's "not allowed". Google: tennis part 70 datalounge. It should come up for you.
