Emory Cohen: How Come it Never Happened for Him?

He made such a splash in the movie Brooklyn (opposite that dullard ShurSHAH) and was poised to be the next big thing, but five years later, he's pretty much over. I thought he was adorable. Can he make a comeback or is it too late?

OP? He's 30 and has been working STEADY since he was 18. He's doing great.

He has 4 movies in post-prod RIGHT NOW. He's doing great. He's a plain looking guy who's a decent actor but was never "poised to be the next big thing." He's doing great, dummy.

Maybe you should take a look at those movies and his roles in them before you start calling names, DUMMY.

by Anonymousreply 2March 7, 2021 8:44 PM

Seems like it IS happening for him.

by Anonymousreply 3March 7, 2021 8:46 PM

Aw, I wanted to see what happened to his character in the OA.

The current post-prod movies have pretty big stars in them, R2.

There's Oscar Issac, Andy Garcia, Ewan McGregor among others. He's doing great.

[quote] He's doing great, dummy.

Are you sure you think he's doing great, r1/r5? You've said it only four times over the course of two posts, so I question whether you've made yourself clear enough.

Also, Oscar Isaac and Andy Garcia are big stars?Could have fooled me. Ewan McGregor, maybe, but he's inching his way toward has-been status, too.

His brother Tulane is also an actor.

BROOKLYN helped make Saoirse Ronan a star, OP. Who else besides you regarded Cohen as the breakout star in her movie?

I'm glad for Cohen that he's working steadily, but I don't get the appeal. I remember him playing Deb Messing's son on SMASH and being underwhelmed, to say the least. (He was dreadful, actually.) I didn't find him that appealing in BROOKLYN, but he was reasonably effective there. It's also the most (the only?) prestigious project he's worked on.

Whatevs. There's a pot for every lid, at least on DL.

Oh, okay, R8, because YOU say so, then I guess it must be true.

Try doing a google search and you'll see how much press he got for the movie.

He's doing great.

Any nudity?

OP, I'm R1. I want to apologize for the "dummy" part.

In my head I was being lighthearted but can see how it came off mean.

But you have to get the idea he was "poised" for anything, other than decent working actor, out of your head because it just wasn't true. With that in mind, he's doing great.
