What was on her victrola?

by Anonymousreply 1March 5, 2021 2:32 AM

Bummer.

by Anonymousreply 2March 5, 2021 2:40 AM

That makes me sad.

by Anonymousreply 3March 5, 2021 2:44 AM

This makes me feel old. Of course, she feels dead so I guess I win.

My mom adored this show and I'd watch it with her. I have tapes of it she recorded with her handwritten summaries on each tape. I can't bring myself to throw them away.

Yes, I just made her death all about me.

Hopefully Philip’s next.

She had a huge mental breakdown and became a fantasist and stalker, derailing her career long-term, poor woman. Though obviously not fun for the man she persecuted.

I am sad to hear that. Nicola Pagett was a lovely young actress.

However I'm pretty sure she wasn't Lady Elizabeth, but rather Miss Elizabeth. (Likewise Mr James.) Her mother had a hereditary title but (at least during the episodes NP was in), her father was plain Mr. That's why Mama was Lady Marjorie, not Lady Bellamy.

That’s a shame. Such good singers. All the brothers.

Why, the Bellamy Brothers, of course.

I LOVED ( 1971-1975) Upstairs Downstairs. It's hard to believe Miss Elizabeth was 75 years old!

Wow, I recently completed watching Anna Karenina on Pluto and she was on my mind (although Stuart Wilson, the guy who played Vronsky, has been on my mind more).

"Upstairs Downstairs" is running at the moment on a retro channel here in Ireland and the U.K. Elizabeth just married Ian Oglivie, an Oscar Wilde sort of character. Tears before bedtime! Fine actress, beautiful voice. "Upstairs Downstairs" was so well written and acted but looked so cheap or threadbare. Shot in awful 1970s video.

Let us hope her Upstairs, Downstairs costar Lesley-Anne Down is alright (?)

She was so beautiful in her youth but she was seriously bipolar and it ruined her career.

by Anonymousreply 14March 5, 2021 2:16 PM

I felt sorry for her character when she married the gay husband.

by Anonymousreply 15March 5, 2021 6:43 PM

She had a gay husband?

by Anonymousreply 16March 5, 2021 8:20 PM

I'd forgotten it was Labour press officer Alastair Campbell she was obsessed with.

"Miss Lizzie didn't ask me to join her when she went to New York. I don't know how it happened. When I came to she was lyin (sic) in that cold bath water, lookin (sic) all bluish-like. AND MY HAND ON HER THROAT! Oh, God! What have I done!" - Statement of Rose Buck, Head House Parlour Maid at 165 Eaton Place. Currently awaiting trial for Murder in the first degree.

Sir Geoffrey Dillon will not be representing for the defence.

by Anonymousreply 18March 5, 2021 11:47 PM

Speaking of him, I always disliked Sir Geoffrey Dillon. He looked like a mole man.
