Couldn't they find a real actor to be the male lead of DEATH BECOMES HER?
Who the fuck thought casting a mediocre actor like Bruce Willis next to comedic geniuses like M and Goldie Hawn was a good idea?! He seemed totally lost but luckily that fit his character pretty well so he didn't ruin the film entirely.
I'd prefer someone like Jeff Bridges or even Harrison Ford in that role.

Right. FFS who cares! His character was meant to be wimpy and banal, it fitted him well.

Kevin Kline was offered it and declined.

Really, OP? I think he’s great in it. Captures the “emasculated schlub” role perfectly, and with great timing.

I agree, R5. He was perfect in the role. And I am generally not one of his #1 fans.

I see Bruce.
You see Bruce?
Actor, star, he-man, lover.

Darling, you don't want to pull focus from Goldie, Meryl, and Isabella.

Probably got the movie financed. Meryl's career was in the shitter at that point and Goldie's wasn't much better.

OP Goldie is a comedic genius, M is an overrated cunt.
Don't get it twisted.

He played against type. And did a good job of doing that.
He got people in the theater.
(He is, however, an asshole. I have met him.)

Kevin Kline actually took the role at first and then dropped out.

An agenda thread about Bruce Willis, Jeff Bridges or Harrison Ford. Or OP will hone in on something irrelevant that he thinks will bring the entainment industry to a screeching halt.
Don't keep us waiting, OP. What is the not so stealth reveal you and your troll farm minions want to trot out?

Bruce Willis was great. All three leads were terrific.
I miss when Willis had a sense of humour.

Tracey Ullman was announced as being in it too at first. I don't know if her part was cut or if she even filmed it but I remember her and Kline being listed in the Hollywood Reporter production chart as being part of the cast.

Ullman did film scenes. They were cut.
Many fans of the film hope the deleted scenes will be released one day.

Tracey was supposed to play Bruce's second wife. I'm not sure if she was just at the funeral or if there were scenes after he fell and left the castle that showed them together. I thought I read somewhere that she did film. Maybe she's an unseen extra in the church where John Ingle (the last Edward Quartermain on General Hospital) was the priest.

Death Becomes Her was a box office bomb. So, who really cares about casting suggestions. I loved the movie and was so happy when they finally released it on blu-ray a few years ago. All three of the main girls were good and Bruce Willis was adequate for the role.

R22 Puke. That is your idea of a hot man? He is the most basic bitch around. Even for 1992 that is terrible.

I agree — never a Bruce W fan. My problem with Death Becomes Her is it’s not as funny as it thinks it is. Another flaw: Bruce character should’ve been as vain as the ladies. He was a Beverly Hills doctor after all.

Jared Leto was in this pre nose job.
Or perhaps he "grew into his nose."
Right, Jan?
Anyway he was one of the pretty boys in the scene with Isabella Rossellini.
Or I hallucinated him in the movie.
Take your pick.

I’m beginning to think the main reason people thought Bruce Willis should’ve been a movie star back then is mainly because he looked like a good actor when compared to the talentless sitcom hacks who came on before [italic]Moonlighting[/italic] on Tuesday night.

It would have been very different with Kevin Kline. Interesting to imagine it.

I always wished Bruce's character drank the potion and we got to see him transform into a strong, sexy, muscle man.

I always thought part of the comedy was that these two women were fighting for this dweeb of a man. It's the only time I've really liked Bruce Willis. He took some risks and played against type and I feel like it worked.
Great movie. I never get tired of it.

I think Harrison Ford and Jeff Bridges would never have gone as far as Willis did in his nebishness.
Willis was a late replacement (for Kline) but ended up giving the best performance in the film.
(Kline would have been awful!)
Ullman was a bartender Willis opened up to while all the other stuff was happening. But in the end her role was cut. I have seen a photo of one of her scenes, but apparently her character's directness and sweetness did not stand up to the drag queen theatrics of the rest of the film.

Willis did fine but it didn't quite make sense that he was so anti-superficiality when he made his living as a plastic surgeon.

Bruce was great in the role, but it's a role that almost any leading man of that generation would have brought something to and excelled in. One reason why I think Bruce works particularly well is because all three main leads play against type, brilliantly. The warm and cerebral Meryl is an icy diva, bubbly girl-next-door Goldie was bookish turned vamp. and studly Bruce made a wonderful wimp.

I watched this movie recently, and I don't know if it's just me, but I left it feeling a bit... underwhelmed. It had everything in it to be a real campy classic, and it just came up a bit short, I thought. I can see why it didn't do well at the cinemas.

I was surprised that any leading man would've agreed to play second fiddle to the leading ladies. Cutting the scenes with him and Tracey Ullman adds insult to injury.
