I think most small time fitness business people are going to end up being like this. They're usually somewhat arrogant and often quite stupid. Lots of Ayn Rand shit. I'd assume anyone in that field is a winger until they show otherwise.

I was in a Tractor Supply Store yesterday in an area of suburban sprawl containing several million people sandwiched between 2 super highways and they were playing some yahoo on the sound system warbling that he’s a country man. And the girls behind the cash register were bobbing their heads along to the music. Outside, I noticed all the gigantic pickup trucks in parking lots. The biggest employer around there is the government. The town, the state or the federal govt and they’re all thinking they’re Indy-pendent, good old boys with rock ribbed conservative values, the most ardent of which is “Destroy the government” (while waving the flag of that same government). “Cut my taxes” which equals “get rid of my job.” And “get rid of degenerates” which excludes themselves, their multiple ex-spouses and their confused blended families of multiple semi-identifiable children & step grandma & grandpas

I was hospitalized recently and my roommate was a woman who worked all her life & gets 2 pensions now. She has an unemployed bf living with her along with her unemployed son. Virtually every male in her orbit had borrowed money from her or was/had been living rent free in her house. She talked about how she “had to” buy her son a new pickup truck recently. I said, “I thought you said he couldn’t work in construction anymore & is trying to get disability. What does he need a pickup truck for? Pickup trucks are for loading stuff on them and if he can’t load stuff, why have one?” And the answer was, basically, all of his friends have one.

Those local Trump parades required a pickup or a Jeep. (The Mercedes & BMW crowd flicked their lights & beeped their horns in support of the Trump parades but didn’t join them because the trumpers were working class, disabled & unemployed muscle guys showing their “strength”).

The wellness/fitness community has become a breeding ground and a recruitment camp for all kinds of conspiracy theories. It's gotten so serious that some people in that community have started to raise awareness of dangerous shit their fellow yoga instructors, personal trainers, wellness bloggers, etc, have been peddling more and more aggressively. I linked the site whose mission is to debunk those people's lies.

On a more personal note, my personal trainer went down that route: he was fairly liberal, mocking Trump and his policies back in 2016, only to fall increasingly deeper into the rabbit hole of shady YouTube videos and weird online blogs. The entry point was Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson. Then he started spouting nonsense about how much the government and MSM are lying to us. Then, he started mouthing off the usual covidiot BS when Corona hit early last year (anti-vaxxing and distrusting mainstream medicine came way before that), then anti-BLM stuff, until even more overt racism started creeping in. I stopped our online sessions when he started defending Proud Boys to me, and saying how Trump will wipe the floor with "Sleepy Joe" in the debates. My feeling is that a lot of people in that community underwent similar metamorphosis in the past 2-3 years; that's too bad becuase he was a really good personal trainer and a really nice and normal guy before he went down that rabbit hole.

Thank you for the last post and correct people really lost it and went down a rabbit hole of conspiracies either because of depression, losing their jobs to the pandemic, and looking for villains. But think it was always there just this all gave them a platform for it to come out.
