starting from Starbucks
almond milk is out, it's all about oat milk now!
by Anonymous | reply 90 | March 4, 2021 6:42 AM |
I’ll stick to old fashioned cow milk. Thanks anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 2, 2021 6:45 AM |
Those oat factory farms are brutal, little oats strapped in their stalls force fed and milked all day. And PETA won’t do anything and their are no radical plants rights organizations.

There is no more shelf space at Ralphs!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 2, 2021 7:10 AM |
Apparently growing almonds is wasteful and uses too much water.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 2, 2021 7:11 AM |
Oat milk is more fattening, though.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 2, 2021 7:12 AM |
It is better and creamier, especially because, while I am ok with all other dairy products, milk and cream just make my colitis flare up and cause painful bloating. Also, it's far tastier and has more fiber - a bonus for you bottoms out there ;-)
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 2, 2021 7:20 AM |
The oat taste is overpowering and clashes with coffee. Disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 2, 2021 7:55 AM |
I use oat milk from Oatly when I make iced coffe at home.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 2, 2021 7:57 AM |
Well Colitis R6 is sold!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 2, 2021 7:57 AM |
Does it have carbs? Almond milk has none or only has 1.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 2, 2021 8:03 AM |
Side Note: The only decent thing available at Starbucks is the cold brew. The rest of it is trash. Oat milk or not.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 2, 2021 8:09 AM |
Doesn’t it seem that the whole concept of “flare ups” of health issues is a 21st century thing? I don’t remember people going on and on about flare ups before that.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 2, 2021 8:28 AM |
I'm so confused - it's been available at Starbucks in the UK for ages, how is it only just coming to the US? You guys normally get all these things first
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 2, 2021 8:43 AM |
I'll just take mine black. A tall strong black, with a little bit of whipped cream at the end.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 2, 2021 9:01 AM |
I'm surprised Starbucks didn't already offer Oatmilk.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 2, 2021 9:36 AM |
You need to use organic oats, as regular oats use a lot of Roundup.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 2, 2021 9:46 AM |
R13 no surprise, oat milk started from Europe in 1990s, and the biggest producer Oatly is a Swedish company. In the US, the popularity only picked up in recent years. Two years ago, you couldn't even find them in major chain stores, you had to visit the specialty or organic food stores if you wanted buy oat milk.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 2, 2021 4:26 PM |
Almond milk is an environmental disaster from what I've read. The amount of water needed to make those almonds is insane.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 2, 2021 4:29 PM |
and dairy farmers have long complained about the usage of word "milk" in those plant based drinks, I actually agree with them, if it's not from titties, it should not be called "milk".
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 2, 2021 4:37 PM |
Oat milk is better for the planet than almond, cashew or 🐄 milk.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 2, 2021 4:37 PM |
But how does it taste? Can you make ice cream from it?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 2, 2021 4:39 PM |
R12 Chronic illnesses flare up, and there are mroe of them than ever. It's not an imagined phenomonenon or new.
Read about relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.
MS was documented in 1868.
Rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, lupus (which was not accepted as a disease until relatively recently, and which now is reasonably well understood) and a host of other chronic illnesses flare up.
I have a severe allergic disorder that flares up in response to food, environmental and some unknown triggers, and for a lot of women who have it, flare ups tend to come and go with their menstrual cycles because of hormonal differences. My mother died from ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease three years ago, and my sister was just diagnosed with UC and, yes, she has flare-ups that she has to treat with a steroid.
Don't be ignorant. Take a little time to learn before saying things like what you wrote. The answers are well documented in medical literature, and flare-ups of chronic illnesses are not a collectively imagined trend.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 2, 2021 4:42 PM |
R21, Oat milk ice cream already exists. Several companies already make it.
Oat milk has been around for years.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 2, 2021 4:42 PM |
How the fuck does one get 'milk' out of oats?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 2, 2021 4:42 PM |
They can fuck off, R19. They're cruel, greedy fucks who profit from cruelty and destroying the planet. If they want to tell dairy alternatives to stop labeling their products as "milk" then how about dairy farmers fess up and stop feeding the public the lie that we need milk from cows?? Tit for tat, I say.
Fuck dairy farmers and their scam that has been perpetrated on the ignorant public since the 1940s. They're nothing but lobbyists, especially the factory dairy farmers who are heavily subsidized and are pissed off that more and more people are turning away from dairy.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 2, 2021 4:44 PM |
Oat milk is much better as a dairy substitute in espresso drinks. Almond milk is too watery, too thin.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 2, 2021 4:44 PM |
r24 see R2 😛
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 2, 2021 4:49 PM |
I prefer whole cow's milk. I drink it every morning.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 2, 2021 4:50 PM |
Why do people take the time to ask here in frustration how things are done but don't have the werewithal to type their questions into Google?
Oat milk is just oats blended with water and then strained, leaving a thick milky liquid.
Almond milk is liquid resulting from almonds being soaked in water for a day or so.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 2, 2021 4:54 PM |
Oat milk is gross.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 2, 2021 4:55 PM |
Oat milk is actually really easy to make at home, but I won't bother, it has that weird raw smell I don't like, I much prefer cooking them instead.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 2, 2021 5:07 PM |
Is no one's teats safe?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 2, 2021 5:20 PM |
It does have a strong oaty flavor. It's fine in cereal, but kinda gross in coffee.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 2, 2021 5:32 PM |
[quote] But how does it taste? Can you make ice cream from it?
I've heard the horrifying statistics about how much water it takes to produce almond milk, so I try to resist. But I've only found one brand of oat milk I truly like and several that make me gag. Of course the good one is a barista blend and I find it cost prohibitive unless it is on a very good sale.
Speaking of sales, I came across one for Oatly frozen dessert a few weeks ago and purchased two pints. As others have stated, it definitely tastes like oatmeal. It was palatable and preferable to rice milk "ice cream", but I will not buy it again.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 2, 2021 5:33 PM |
Almond milk has less calories
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 2, 2021 5:36 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 2, 2021 5:40 PM |
What about Goat milk?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 2, 2021 5:42 PM |
Definitely more sustainable.
I use it everyday: 365 at Whole Foods. It's almost always under $2.00 a carton. Unsweetened, vanilla, chocolate.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 2, 2021 5:50 PM |
Love this stuff in my coffee. Oatly is by far the best oat milk I've tried. Is it imported from Sweden?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 2, 2021 5:57 PM |
R39, Swedish company with many foreign investors including Oprah. Manufactures in the U.S. as well as Sweden, and other places.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 2, 2021 6:00 PM |
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 2, 2021 6:02 PM |
I agree that Oatly tastes good (and I don't detect oat flavor), but IMO, half 'n' half is still better in coffee. My search continues ...
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 2, 2021 6:05 PM |
Know it's not environmentally friendly and nutritionally negligible, but the one thing I really like about almond milk is its relatively neutral flavor. I started to find the flavor (and thick texture) of soy milk really off-putting, especially on cereal. Agree that almond milk doesn't really work in coffee, though.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 2, 2021 6:07 PM |
Do whatever. If you want sustainable, it's oat milk. It's not perfect, but what is.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 2, 2021 6:08 PM |

This is what you get when you let the junk food industry dictate government food policy. They're everything wrong with the tobacco industry, only worse.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 2, 2021 6:09 PM |
Vegans are useful idiots of the sugar industry and the Grauniad is a racist hate rag.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 2, 2021 6:10 PM |
I like Oatly. It’s been around in the U.K. for quite a while amd at Starbucks. What I don’t understand is why Oatly is make of like 75% sunflower oil though? That can’t be great to be drinking all day, no? That’s the only thing that irks me. There are barely any oats in it. It’s a lot of fillers and oils and I like quite a few cups of coffee throughout the day. Is it really healthier than organic semi skimmed or whole milk in the end?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 2, 2021 6:17 PM |
^ Sorry for the typos. Doing this from my phone. Ugh!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 2, 2021 6:18 PM |
All you defenders of plant-based "milks" type fat.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 2, 2021 6:18 PM |
R49, you type insecure eldergay. It's just a choice; don't switch if you don't want to. No need to be defensive.
Here are the ingredients, R47. A minor thing: it's rapeseed oil (canola), not sunflower. I don't think it's 75% rapeseed oil, however, as the number one ingredient is the "oat base" (water, oats). If that's the first ingredient, I don't think the second top ingredient can be greater than 50% of total volume, as ingredients are listed in order of volume used.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 2, 2021 6:25 PM |
You're an ageist bigot, R50, and if you live long enough to come an Eldergay and face that same kind of ageist bigotry, you will have brought it on yourself because in your case it will be retaliatory.

by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 2, 2021 6:58 PM |
Love this vanilla Oatly ice cream, tastes just like dairy ice cream.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 2, 2021 7:23 PM |
R12, that's probably because of all the chemicals, additives, pesticides, etc. that is in all our 21st century food and products.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 2, 2021 7:32 PM |
Oatly became so popular that they couldn't keep up with US demand, so they opened up a factory in NJ to manufacture for the US market.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 2, 2021 8:10 PM |
Why are vegans so sanctimonious yet demanding when it comes to not just finding, but extolling the greatness of their alternatives to meat and dairy? If meat and dairy are so horrible, why are you looking for alternatives? Just eat and/or drink something else if everything about the ways of the non-vegan is so wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 2, 2021 8:25 PM |
Oatly is divine. It gives coffee a rich caramelized flavor. I still like almond milk, but it can be bitter.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 2, 2021 8:31 PM |
R49 types asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 2, 2021 8:55 PM |
R9 - you KNOW I will be gifting my LA shopbottms some of that Oatley when I go back. Wanna meet tonight? Oat milk in your AM coffee. ;-)
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 2, 2021 9:07 PM |
R35 that's because almond milk has no almonds in it!
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 3, 2021 3:32 AM |
Homemade oatmilk tends to be slimy and gritty. Give me my Oatly barista edition. My local stores are almost always out of it... damn other people taking my good shit.
The barista edition has rapeseed oil in it and is 97% unsaturated fat.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 3, 2021 4:07 AM |
Vegans and vegetarians are truly insufferable people.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 3, 2021 4:16 AM |
I got it today at Starbucks. It was great.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 3, 2021 4:29 AM |
R24 you like that oat milk because it has rapseed oil? Reminds me of the unique taste of the almond milk that many people enjoy, the taste from sunflower lecithin, not almond though.
Anyway, the mass manufactured plant milks are mostly fraud!

Yet still somehow preferable to cow milk. It's not like the hormones and antibiotics and everything else that goes into commercial milk production in the 21st century are any more natural or sustainable or healthy.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 3, 2021 5:05 AM |
R63, if it doesn't have almonds in it (or hardly any), why do so many DLers bitch about the massive amount of water it takes to grow the almonds for it?
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 3, 2021 5:23 AM |
You cheap bitches don't know what to look for. Here's real almond milk. It's $6-$7.
I use it smoothies so I can't taste it.
Almonds and water are the only ingredients.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 3, 2021 5:41 AM |
If you are using a plant-based milk solely for a carrier for some other flavor, like coffee or a sweet cereal, these milks are ok. However, if you are drinking it partly for nutritional value, soymilk is light years ahead of grain-based milks (oat or rice) or nut milks. It is very high in protein, and a near equivalent for cow's milk, especially if fortified with calcium. Typically, cow's milk has about 7-8 grams of protein in 8 ozs. and so does soymilk. Oat milk has about 3 gms, and almond milk about 1.5 grams. But there are some concerns about how some proteins in soy milk mimic steroids like estrogen, and can cause some problems for men. These probably wouldn't manifest unless a person drank gallons/day. Most Americans wouldn't likely drink more than 8 ozs a day. I use it with cereal, but I get the unsweetened kinds. I like the flavor of some of the sweeter varieties, many of which are also thickened with carageenan or other seaweed thickeners, but the unsweetened variety has more nutrition with fewer concerns around added sugars and thickeners.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | March 3, 2021 7:41 AM |
R21 lol, you are wrong, I don't drink cow milk. In the last three months, I only bought milk twice, both times were for baking needs. But again, the commercial productions of plant "milks" are fraud, they are specially made for the gullible fools.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | March 3, 2021 8:10 AM |
I've tried oat milk but it is a poor non-dairy creamer. It works better with cereal. Same with almond milk. Soy original and soy creamer works best with coffee.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 3, 2021 11:10 AM |
I like almond milk in my coffe because it tastes a bit like marzipan. Never had oat milk, how does it taste?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | March 3, 2021 11:21 AM |
The only soy milk I liked was Trader Joe's Unsweetened Original, but they discontinued it. I hate their almond milk - too watery. Tried Silk almond milk and it wasn't much better. Right now I'm buying Almond Breeze unsweetened original, which has a consistency more like regular milk. But it's more expensive than the others.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | March 3, 2021 11:26 AM |
R77 It tastes great, imagine oatmeal flavored thick cum!

by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 3, 2021 11:41 AM |
Part of the reason I choose almond milk is for the low calorie content, so oat milk gets a pass from me. I'd rather save my liquid calories for gin.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 3, 2021 12:20 PM |
The production of almond milk is an environmental horror story. Growing the almonds is extremely water intensive. Not so with oats. Very easy on the environment and readily sustainable.
But this is Data Lounge. Almond milk has 1 carb. The same quantity of oatmilk has 14 carbs.
That will never do with swim suit weather just ahead of us.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 3, 2021 1:16 PM |
Oak milk tastes like drinking a granola bar
by Anonymous | reply 85 | March 3, 2021 1:20 PM |
What is the lowest carb milk that I can put in my coffee? I found a milk called Carb Master. Has anyone tried it? Tastes like 3% milk. But I’m open to anything drinkable that is low carb.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | March 3, 2021 1:30 PM |
I had been using Coffee mate vanilla almond and wondered why it's never in stock anymore. People loved that shit and it flew off the shelves. Now I know they are phasing it out because of some environmental justice warrior bitches. Every time I like something they pull it.
The oat variety is ok but like someone already said it kind of tastes weird in coffee. I dont like coconut milk in coffee either.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | March 3, 2021 1:33 PM |
Why put milk in coffee? It's just stupid. If you don't like the taste of coffee, don't drink it.

Ridiculous. By your logic, we should never add anything to anything. No ketchup on fries. No sauce on pasta. No cream cheese on a bagel.
Should cappuccinos and lattes not exist either?
