To R43, to be fair, "Mizrahi" isn't a common term that most people use to describe Jews from those places, even though it is correct. For a long time they were just considered Sephardic Jews, as they practiced the same customs as those from Spain, and many still use that term.

Spanish Jews are Sephardic because Spain was Muslim when they were there. I believe Mizrahi are a subset of Sephardim. More Middle Eastern, where the boundaries are I don't know. There are only two chief rabbis in Isreal and Mizrahim are under the Sephardic one. Some interpretations of the Law, and various customs, diverged between Jews in Christian lands and those in Muslim lands. I believe, although am not sure, many Greek Jews are Sephardic because of lengthy Ottoman occupation of that county.

R48 Mizrahi is a cultural/ethnic identification, but not a religious one. Sephardic and Ashkenazi are the two main religious “mincha” or prayer styles/traditions. You can be a European Jew and follow a Sephardic mincha and vice versa but usually not, which is why Ashkenazi and Sephardic are often used for ethnic identity as well. Beta Israel/Ethophian Jews may have a separate mincha as well, but I am not sure.
