“Deep fake” where you paste people’s faces onto others, is causing concern
This is the original tweet, but many are retweeting and commenting at how this will cause many issues in the long run, especially once the technology is perfected to make it look 109% real.
I agree. This is something I don’t like or find cool. It’s creepy.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of SOUTH PARK, did a special called Sassy Justice about deep fakes focusing on Trump.

Yes this sort of technology is an incredibly serious problem. As it gets better, there is going to be a point where we won't know what's real and what's fake anymore. Imagine it and what can be done with this technology.
To the casual Facebook viewer - that's Tom Cruise. 100%.

At the link is an example of how relatively easy it is to create a deep fake, but it just leaves me with more questions about whether the guy in the vid has faked every single element of the video.

Well, of course he did. That was the whole point, Sherlock. Did he lose you at the floating marker?

No, raging ho R5, whether or not he's telling the truth about every element being fake such as the backdrop. He could have been in room with a window, but digitally created the backdrop to fall a way to make even that seem fake. It just makes one want to question every minor detail if everything can be digitally manipulated.

I agree too, r2. What the fuck kind of world are we living in? Like, how can we protect ourselves? Someone could blow up a building, then make a confession video with someone else's face. Chaos.

If only it could be used for good...

Deep fakes did a better job in de-aging Robert Deniro in the Irishmen.

I call bull shit on the deep fake is actually fake. Tom is an attention whore. Iv worked in digital studios that do this kind of stuff. Yes, it's pretty easy to do, IF you have a full face scan with 3d data and more importantly a texture map at high resolution. On top of that, hair is very difficult to make look real. It can be done but it take immense computing power, usually a render farm. Add to that you need a really good voice impersonator and someone to do the body moves. It takes a team of people to do this and a lot of time and money.
If I am wrong and the creator comes out who made it, grantee is some studio publicly social media stunt. Not some guy on him home computer.

R10 that's easy to do, it's called motion tracking. It's been a Hollywood technique for over 20 years now.

Hey, R11. The hair isn't fake. That's the guy's hair and he's doing a Cruise movement and voice impersonation himself.
Regarding the "face mask," there's 1000s of hours of Cruise face footage from his movies for every and any angle anyone can pull from to digitize a low res "mask" - you don't need hi res for crappy format social media posts. But you don't even need a 360 face for these quickies because the machine learning of the programs fills in the blanks.
People have literally been making news recently about how easy it is with decent home equipment. Here's an article from several months ago.

So, soon I can take my favorite porn scene and my favorite actor’s face merge them and watch them get gangbanged by a room full of men.

People will use it to commit crimes. Alter the video of a crime and add someone’s face that they hate or want to frame for money!

All I want to know is how far away are we from having high-quality deep fake porn of Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans double-penetrating Henry Cavill?
