When using emojis, do you select your skin tone?

I’m not race-baiting, I’m legit curious. I usually change the skin tone to what closely resembles my own. If, for example, I’m sending someone a thumbs up, I’ll send 👍🏼 instead of 👍. I have some friends who always stick to the yellow emojis. Makes me wonder if I’m being non-woke by making a distinction.

Any thoughts?

Are there any white male celebrities for whom a yellow emoji would be appropriate?

by Anonymousreply 2February 23, 2021 11:34 PM

Don’t overthink it

The yellow hand looks like a dish glove, so I use my skin tone when I give a thumbs up. That's the only time I select a skin tone.

Get a life, OP.

R2, you are a gem.

by Anonymousreply 6February 23, 2021 11:37 PM

Yes, you are race-baiting, OP. If you are not, you don't need to be defensive from the beginning.

by Anonymousreply 7February 23, 2021 11:39 PM

No. It chooses me.

by Anonymousreply 8February 24, 2021 12:16 AM

OP: non-woke? Yea, your aren't race-baiting for sure!!

I’m white. I have an Asian boyfriend. I have black friends. I always select the right skin tone when I text with them. I think it’s more fun like this.

by Anonymousreply 10February 24, 2021 12:29 AM

I do on Zoom (for the clapping hand.)

I hate it when white people use the brown-skinned emoji. My partner knows a guy who does that and it just seems so contrived.

by Anonymousreply 12February 24, 2021 12:37 AM

R12, perhaps he tans well?

by Anonymousreply 13February 24, 2021 12:40 AM

I don’t need emojis to over-share my feelings so I’ve decided it’s a fad. Plus, I thought the brown hands implied something other than ethnicity.

by Anonymousreply 14February 24, 2021 12:47 AM

They don't make an emoji pale enough for me -unless you count the ghosts. I just use whatever the default is. I wouldn't want people to think I spent time thinking about the color of my emoji...

by Anonymousreply 15February 24, 2021 12:57 AM

Yellow.

by Anonymousreply 16February 24, 2021 2:01 AM

I stick with the yellow (default).

Safer that way.

by Anonymousreply 17February 24, 2021 4:11 AM

Op so you are white, brown or yellow? I know thats not a black emoji, or is it?
