Damn...do not be a world famous black athlete in Los Angeles. This is only a year since Kobe.

He’ll likely die or be paralyzed if the jaws of life have to be used. Very sad.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 1802/23/2021

If he were fine, they would've already said so

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 1902/23/2021

Wow, that really sucks. Nive guy. Met him and his then wife years ago in Corona Del Mar

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 2002/23/2021

There are suitcases next to the vehicle so he may have been on his way to LAX

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 3002/23/2021

I have a friend that works as a 911 dispatcher. She texted me that he was totally in incoherent and dazed. That man was fucked up on pills, coke, and alcohol.

He wasn't on my 2021 death list!!!

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 3802/23/2021

Incoherent and dazed could mean a traumatic brain injury, as well

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 3902/23/2021

was he wearing a seat belt at least?

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 4002/23/2021

well, at least his head isn't hurt.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 4402/23/2021

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 4502/23/2021

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 4602/23/2021

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 4702/23/2021

[quote] According to golf digest, multiple leg injuries. Career over.

Why career over? You don’t need to run in golf. It’s leisurely. Wheelchairs welcome.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 4802/23/2021

Well he’s fucked. I wonder if one of his legs might need to be amputated?

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 4902/23/2021

That is a Bentley Bentayga.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 5002/23/2021

R48. you need your legs to walk to course. He had a back surgery this year and now this. He's basically handicapped.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 5102/23/2021

At least now people won’t give him grief for popping pain pills like they’re candy.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 5202/23/2021

The car is resting on the driver's side. The passenger side is undisturbed except for a broken window and a fully inflated air bag. They must've pulled him out through the windshield.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 5302/23/2021

he's already 45. time to call it quits

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 5402/23/2021

Not wishing him any ill will but plenty of people are in horrific accidents with horrific injuries and they survive and live normal lives. This is not some 8 wagon train pile up crossing the Rockies in 1855.

We do have modern surgery and medicine. He is well suited to do well barring ceetain types of injuries.

In any event, what are people doing racing around in cars and traveling during a fucking pandemic. I am sick of these people.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 5502/23/2021

R53, they used a "jaws of life" to cut him out of car.

he's currently in surgery per his agent Mark Steinberg

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 8202/23/2021

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 8402/23/2021

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 8502/23/2021

It kind of is our business if he's a public safety concern. Popping a vile full of pills and rolling down hills in your SUV is kind of dangerous.

Congressman and DL Fave Madison Cawthorn has a new Black friend! (His first).

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 11702/23/2021

I Google Mapped the crash location; looks like he jumped the curb and rolled *up* the hill. If it was early in the morning, then probably no traffic; very tempting to fly down that stretch of road.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 11802/23/2021

he will be charged with driving under the influence etc...he's had a DUI in the past.

depending on what's in his system.

Who gives a fuck about rich athletes who do nothing for society except build a fan base to get even richer? Seriously, has anyone ever lost a tear over YOUR career comeback?

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 12402/23/2021

Genesis GV80 is a shitty “luxury” SUV made by Hyundai as part of their luxury e.g. trying to be Toyota’s Lexus line. It gets shitty MPG too. Hyundai’s cars look great on the outside and interior with lots of options but under the hood is another story. Where they can scrimp to save money they will, judged by use of plastic components in parts. It’s why Hyundai and other Korean cars’ resale value is crap compared to Toyota or even Honda.

Now that Tiger has crashed in one, it’s not exactly the publicity that the underwhelming Genesis line needs.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 12502/23/2021

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 12902/23/2021

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 13002/23/2021

A sheriff’s department source told TMZ that they didn’t believe alcohol was a factor — but didn’t say whether other substances may have been involved.

Woods, who’s recorded 82 PGA Tour wins, was in the Golden State for the Genesis Invitational, which wrapped up over the weekend in the Pacific Palisades. He presented the trophy to winner Max Homa.

Afterward, he was on a two-day content shoot with Golf Digest/GOLFTV, the magazine said.

Possible scenario: early morning, creaky body with bad back not warmed up. Pops some painkillers prescribed for his latest back surgery and on his way. Gets over-confident behind big SUV and little traffic. Speeding to make the early filming for the day at the golf course. Painkiller side effects and unfamiliarity with the SUV plus speeding, crashes car. The car being a large SUV means it’s less forgiving when it comes to rollovers.

'There was no evidence of impairment. There was no effort to draw blood or anything like that.'

Villanueva said he was traveling at 'a greater speed than normal,' but noted: 'that area has a high frequency of accidents.

I wonder how much cash (as distinct from real estate and investments) Woods actually has. Cobwebs surround his wallet because he opens it so rarely.

I surmise his two kids are taken care of with trusts established at their birth and especially enhanced pursuant to his divorce settlement.

And, oh, except to Elin Nordigren I didn't think Tiger Woods owed anybody an apology or accounting for his harem. Still, she earned every penny she was able to wring outta Woods, the old skinflint.

I wonder if, in the event of his death, Woods has designated any of his dough-ray-mee to be distributed to that long-time girlfriend of his. She better wonder, too. He hasn't married her or had a child with her.

I would not be surprised if Woods had had a vasectomy and good for him if he has.

They and the "scandal" had it all: sex, money, race, humor, and all against the back-drop of white, conservative, elite, pro-golf, whose establishment was falsely, publicly, pearl-clutchingly aghast! at the luridness of Tiger's behavior , but were secretly relieved that it diverted everybody from the real scandal- the proliferation of performance enhancing drugs among a lot of pro golfers, NOT only Tiger Woods.

R493 TW has multiple compound fractures in his R leg. He is at great risk for sepsis/infection. He will need further surgeries and skin grafts. He will be unable to walk for many months.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 53302/24/2021

I wonder how his leg(s) got broken. The cabin on the SUV is remarkably intact... I know he had back problems so he may have had the seat positioned closer to the pedals and any intrusion after an 80+ mph crash would have done the trick. Or his legs may have been bouncing off each other. Race car drivers frequently break their legs that way. No other injuries reported so his upper body was well restrained, but legs are just left to flop around.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 53402/24/2021

Tiger's right leg also would have been in a more locked, hence vulnerable, position while pressing down on the brake at his sudden loss of control.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 53502/24/2021

We don’t know that he did press the brake. It’s been reported numerous times there are no skid marks or other evidence of braking.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 53602/24/2021

This article said he drifted out of his lane - might be charged with "distracted driving" but probably not impaired - it was 7am or something. I had forgotten these things (also in the article) though:

The Tuesday crash wasn’t the first high-profile crash involving Woods. In 2009, he struck a fire hydrant and a tree while backing his SUV out of the driveway of his Florida mansion, with his then-wife, Elin Nordegren, reportedly breaking the back window of the SUV with a golf club to help get him out, according to ESPN.

Then in 2017, he made headlines again after he was found asleep behind the wheel of a parked car on the side of a Florida road with two flat tires, the engine still running and a blinker flashing, the Associated Press reported.

Woods later issued a statement, where he said he had an unexpected reaction to prescription medication.

Woods was impaired. For whatever reason, law enforcement either failed to do their job to check for impairment or else the evidence was suppressed. Woods is friends with Trump. To the person who keeps obsessing over the time of day, 7:30 AM is really not that early for a work thing to start. It's early to be drunk, but he wasn't. And if he was on opioids, well, that's a round the clock thing. I say this as a night owl who tries never to have to be up and about at 7:30—it's still just not that early.

[quote] To the person who keeps obsessing over the time of day, 7:30 AM is really not that early for a work thing to start.

Personally I didn’t think that poster was inferring it was early in the day as much as the fact that the accident happened at 7:12 in the morning. If he had to be on TV in 18 minutes from that time, one would assume he’d be rushing and therefore driving fast.

Plus, a vehicle doesn’t leave its lane, go over the median, through two other lanes, over an embankment and shear trees and signs if speed is not a factor.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 55002/25/2021

in the tv interview, he looked bloated, eyes were glassy and red as well.... he didn't look "normal" that's for sure!...

one would think by now, he would have a driver 24/7!

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 55102/25/2021

The fact the Sheriff says it was “purely an accident” when speed and careless driving are the least of the factors very clearly and obviously involved makes me now think that there is more to the story and they are either fanboys doing him a solid or are being paid off. Veering and knicking a sign is an accident. Swerving for a squirrel is an accident. Flipping your car over 3 lanes and some field, shearing trees in your path is a little suspect.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 55202/25/2021

^without leaving visible evidence of braking, I will add.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 55302/25/2021

R545 is right. I used to set up golf rounds at some elite clubs for serious golfers ( was in PR) and the earlier the better in the hot places. This was mostly in Oahu but also California and Florida. Earlier was preferred because then they’d get hammered afterward at the clubhouse too. I’m sure any golf club would accommodate Tiger whenever he wanted to golf, but it’s miserable golfing under the heat.

R536

"The injuries are frequently seen among drivers involved in car accidents, said Dr. R. Malcolm Smith, the chief of orthopedic trauma at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass. Usually they occur when the driver frantically stomps on the brake as a car careens out of control.

When the front end of the car is smashed, immense force is transmitted to the driver’s right leg and foot. “This happens every day with car crashes in this country,” Dr. Smith said."

Basic physics explains his injuries.

I know that road he had the accident on. If you aren't driving with your hands 10 and 2 on the wheel, completely focused on the road it's dangerous. They even have an escape lane on the right., filled with gravel you can change into if you are losing control of the vehicle. It is so steep it's really scary at night. I read the NYT article on the injuries - oof. Naturally with him being one of the best golfers of all time, there's the big question of "will he play golf again?" But after reading that, I'm more inclined to ask with "will he walk normally again; will he be able to put normal weight on his leg again; will he be able to run around with his kids again?"

I get why people have tremendous respect for Tiger - he was the very best at what he did - and "normal" people respond to that since most people aren't the best at anything. But, so many people saying "he's an incredible human being" - which is technically correct just based on golf skills. But, "incredible human being" usually means more - beyond specific skills.

And, it's not even that people are overlooking personal transgressions or character flaws and see him as "incredible" despite that - they can view him as overcoming obstacles, learning from mistakes ("we all make mistakes"). I guess what bothers me is that there's never any consistency (unsurprisingly). A different athlete, a different person would be destroyed and dismissed for even lesser transgressions or character flaws.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 56602/25/2021

From the NY Post article chronicling his accidents. From 2017:

[Quote]Tests showed he had Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien and THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, in his system.

Of course there was no roadside testing given his physical state. Given this history, wouldn't police request blood and urine test results from the hospital? The police in Florida, his home state, didn't give him any breaks. Why would RPV cops?

Toxicology tests from post mortems take weeks. What about a case like this?

Tiger Woods doesn’t want his career to ‘end like this’ after car crash: source

As the golf icon continues to recover from Tuesday’s rollover wreck outside Los Angeles, Woods realizes his career on the links may be in jeopardy, People reported.

“He doesn’t want his career to end like this,” a source close to the 45-year-old athlete said Wednesday. “So if there’s any way at all that he can continue playing golf, he will.”

Woods, who had back surgery to remove a disc fragment cutting into a nerve following the PNC Championship in December, is “frustrated” by his latest setback to his once seemingly unstoppable career.

He also wants to get back on the greens as soon as possible if he’s physically able, the source said.

“He expected 2021 to be the year of his comeback,” the source continued. “Obviously, that’s not going to happen now. And that’s disappointing to him.” Tiger Woods reportedly said he "doesn't want his career to end like this" after his horrific car accident.

But Woods – who has had nine previous surgeries throughout his career – thinks he can add one more dramatic return to his already-imposing resume, the source said.

“This is a massive setback and he knows that it’s a massive setback,” the source told People. “But he’s overcome obstacles in the past and think he can do it again.”

Woods was conscious when he was extricated via the front windshield of a 2021 Genesis GV80 luxury SUV that crashed on a problematic downhill stretch of road in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has characterized the crash as “purely an accident” and ruled out criminal charges against Woods.

“He was not drunk,” Villanueva said Wednesday. “We can throw that one out.”

If Woods does return to golf, he’ll look to break his record-tying 82 victories on the PGA Tour and add to his 15 major championships, second only to Jack Nicklaus.

Woods reportedly has no memory of the single-vehicle rollover wreck, which left him with a shattered right leg. Doctors also inserted a rod into his leg and placed screws in his foot and ankle, according to a statement posted on Twitter.

Something tells me he’ll return to golf and everyone will cry.

r567 I want what *he's* having!

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 57102/25/2021

R566 It does sound like he may not walk normally again let alone play golf.

He was running late and speeding to get to a filming at 7:30. Was it going to be a live show? Famous and important people are late to things all the time, by hours and hours in some cases. Why would it have been a big deal to be late? Is he that much of a perfectionist?

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 57302/25/2021

He probably is. Could have been a live segment or something. Still, they probably would have been adjustments given that he wouldn't have been THAT late and he's Tiger Woods.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 57402/25/2021

R566, why are you surprised Tiger is being deified?

74 million people voted for a pussy grabbing, dirtball scrumbag, con artist/grifter, pathological liar, thrice bankrupt, thrice wedded asshole for President of the United States, and did so quite proudly. Of course, they'll think a guy who knocks a ball around in grass is the next best thing to Jesus Christ Himself.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 57502/25/2021

r564, you better do it going down that hill.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 57602/25/2021

Tiger has a death wish.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 57702/25/2021

R532, If Tiger wrote a true tell-all autobiography, from his pushy parents (especially father) to his prodigy years to his great wins and great losses to his love life to his injuries---and his real thoughts on all of it, it would be the biggest selling sports book ever.

Or volumes, plural.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 57802/26/2021

R572, See that stance, the right leg?

Tiger's right leg was broken like a twig, and his ankle shattered.

Whether he likes it or not, or announces it or not, Tiger Woods is now well and truly retired.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 57902/26/2021

R575, Grow up. Mankind has glorified athletic prowess since forever.

I can see him coaching his son to greatness.

To sound like a broken record. You don't have to intend to speed down that hill, just not breaking and you will be speeding down the hill.

^For that car to have been destroyed to the extent that it was, Woods was gunning the gas, driving like an idiot, or completely oblivious on his phone.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 58202/26/2021

^And just as they didn't bother testing him for alcohol or drugs, they won't investigate the phone records.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 58302/26/2021

r583, to my knowledge they did a toxicology. But they haven't subpoenaed the results. They also need a warrant to get his phone records. They can get all that if they chose to. They are waiting for the black box from the car. If there is something weird with that they can call the other evidence. If it just reveals he lost control going downhill, they won't.

Why does this thread still say "Breaking"? This happened days ago.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 58502/26/2021

R585 Because it’s broken, like Tiger’s leg, in four places.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 58602/26/2021

Yeah R585, the mods never seems to update things here.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 58702/26/2021

[quote] Why does this thread still say "Breaking"? This happened days ago.

Did you think the thread title changed itself after a few days? It's true that a lot of the features here are wonky or broken right now, but no one's ever updated the "BREAKING" thread titles.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 58802/26/2021

[quote] just not breaking and you will be speeding down the hill.

Something was breaking alright (his legs).

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 58902/26/2021

USA Today releasing an article today basically saying he nodded off.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59002/28/2021

Nodded out more likely

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59102/28/2021

Is this breaking news? I mean, was he in another car accident?

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59202/28/2021

If you’re that bothered by the “breaking” thing, r592, why don’t you go ahead and change the thread title?

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59302/28/2021

Is he hobbling around on crutches yet?

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59402/28/2021

R593 I thought only OP could change their titles? Burn, this site still doesn’t even allow the most simple of edits.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59502/28/2021

[quote] [R593] I thought only OP could change their titles?

No one can, including the OP—which is why I question why r592 keeps whining about how this news is no longer breaking, as though someone is supposed to do something about the title.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59602/28/2021

If we fill in these last slots it will go into cold storage and we won’t have to see the “breaking,” when it is clearly no longer that.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59702/28/2021

This is breaking his leg news.

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59802/28/2021

Is he dead yet?

by Drugs or alcohol?reply 59902/28/2021

No, but this thread is R.I.P.
