Sadly, you can't rule out musical theatre -At least not in regional and community theatre venues. In my area we have a very large Christian theatre, and actors must sign purity pledges and swear they are not gay -or they will not be cast. I refuse to audition there on principal, but other gay actors sign the pledges and put up with the pre-show prayer circles. Many artistic directors are horribly homophobic, but of necessity look the other way when it comes to getting the right people in (money above everything!).
