Learn how to write about your trauma with DL fave Roxane Gay!
[quote]“In my new MasterClass, I’m going to teach you how to own your identity, write about trauma with courage and care, and approach writing through the lens of culture and personal experience,” said Gay on her Instagram.
It's $180. I'm going to write about the trauma of her using the phrase "personal experience" instead of "experience."
Are you going to explore your trauma with courage and care a la Roxane?

Does that cost include a hook-up to get your writing published (for no pay) in the Voices section of Huffpo?

I'm SHOCKED. Roxane Gay does NOT look exhausted in that photo.

What do you do if you don’t have trauma? Can you make it up? If so, I want to be a lot lizard and a heroin addict, but I think that’s been done.

I wouldn't recommend making up trauma, R3. Listen to the wisdom of Laurie Anderson, from her song Only an Expert:
Now let's say you're invited to be on Oprah
And you don't have a problem
But you want to go on the show, so you need a problem
So you invent a problem
But if you're not an expert in problems
You're probably not going to invent a very plausible problem
And so you're probably going to get nailed
You're going to get exposed
You're going to have to bow down and apologize
And beg for the public's forgiveness

I now have trauma hearing "wisdom" and "Laurie Anderson" in the same sentence.

Are you also triggered, R5? Think carefully about what may have triggered you, who is to blame for that triggering, and how their privilege made them feel it was okay to trigger you, causing your exhaustion. This will be important in your writing. Also be thinking about how you may put this into our preferred headline format. Something like:
Why white men quoting Laurie Anderson is a trigger for me
or
It is not okay for White Gay Men to quote Laurie Anderson at me. Here's Why.

Can't wait to hear even more about what it's like to be a fat, loud mouthed, obnoxious, yet also exhausted and exhausting Those subjects haven't taken up the vast majority of internet discussion, and a large part of the mainstream media for the past 10+years.
So excited to hear more about TRAUMA.

$180?!!! Jesus! And all that to learn from a woman who writes banal prose like "My body is a cage. My body is a cage of my own making."

I’m wearing shorts right now just to piss her off.

She should do a Master Class on "How to get your money's worth at an all-you-can-eat buffet."

Thanks, I just choked on my breakfast laughing at this. I'm not unhappy about it either.

She's an American. She saw an opportunity to make a buck and she grabbed it.
