I hated it. Vacuous pop sugar. It was everywhere.

I (still) love this song. Big hit in Fall 1988. I first heard it on the radio a bunch of times, not knowing the name of the artist/group. I (still) like to watch the music video on YouTube. The group had a good follow-up single called Bring Down the Moon.

She was totally sober, and that was the problem. I love her records but she's one of the laziest pop stars in the world.

As for the original, it really is a pop classic, up there with Starship's Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now.

I think this couple (Boy Meets Girl) broke up, right? Maybe I am thinking about the (formerly) married duo, Nu Shooz, with the 1986 smash I Can't Wait...or the (formerly) married duo, Timbuk 3, with the 1986 smash The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades.

It was meant for Whitney Houston (they wrote How Will I Know and I Wanna Dance With Somebody for her as well). But she rejected it. Too bad, maybe then we would've been spared Didn't We Almost Have It All as a single.

I remember watching that video in 1988 for the first time, and wanting to slap each of them viciously.

I watched it again just now, and that impulse remains the same.

It was so syrupy, but I couldn't help but love it. The melody manages to sound wistful and hopeful at the same time. And I love the singer's voice in the verses. I know he's not the greatest singer, but I can feel the emotion there.

It reminds me of winter. I have vague memories of being at a house party where it snowed and everyone had to sleep over. The song was playing on a stereo the next morning as I awakened in a bed to two handsome young men pulling off my pants and molesting me. I didn’t stop them.

I always get this confused with Life in a Northern Town. I hated that song and it was fucking EVERYWHERE.

I remember I Want to Dance With Somebody was meant to be a slow love ballad but they turned it into a dance track for Whitney instead.

It reminds of those simple, stupid days when I thought I’d be young forever and things could only get better.

I liked this song and still like it. Looking at the video, I shared the same 80's fashion sense as the female half of the duo. They had both been dating a long time, had kids together, and finally got married in the late 80's. They said their parents were thrilled they finally decided to make it legal.

I love this song but haven't heard this on the radio in years now (in NYC metro). I guess Whitney's team turned it down because it's not really a danceable song nor a ballad. Her 'I wanna dance', meanwhile , seems turning into her most popular song, as far a streaming.

Loved it. Brought to mind a mad infatuation I had at the time.

It was one of those songs that was on the radio all the time but it didn't irritate me at all like, say, "Dont Worry, Be Happy" or fucking "Kokomo". But I never knew who sang it until now. I still like it but, just like then, it's not something I'd seek out. But I wouldn't turn the channel if it came on.

Oh Girl is a better song, but barely cracked the top 40 in 1985. Can’t get more 80s than this video.
