America’s racist housing rules really can be fixed

It’s time to sue the suburbs.

The suburbs will never be safe again! You’ll never get them back. 🤡

by Anonymousreply 1February 18, 2021 8:40 PM

For what, providing an environment that's safe and clean? Sue trailer parks and ghettos.

by Anonymousreply 2February 18, 2021 8:42 PM

Those zoning rules are not intended to keep black people out!

They're mean to poor of EVERY race out, definitely including white trash!

by Anonymousreply 3February 18, 2021 8:47 PM

You can tell where an article is going to go as soon as you see the words Black and white. OP's title is as misleading as the article. It is not about race it is about income level.

[quote] OP's title is as misleading as the article.

It's the article's title.

by Anonymousreply 5February 18, 2021 8:49 PM

Yes, zoning laws are deliberately designed to keep poor people out of the "good" neighborhoods, because the well-off don't want to life next door to poors or to have their kids go to school with poor kids. It's not about race so much as income and social class snobbery.

Of course if you bring up social class and income snobbery that to a middle-class writer who's on an anti-racism crusade, they'll call you a "racist" and say you're part of the problem.

[quote] It’s time to sue the suburbs.

Only an American could write that sentence.

by Anonymousreply 7February 18, 2021 10:41 PM

A woke American, R7.

by Anonymousreply 8February 18, 2021 11:00 PM

Obama started it, Trump stopped it, now Biden is in for the kill.

Miss Anne they are going to bust the suburbs!

Everyone who moved away from urban areas to get away from "those things and people" are going to find them moving in with force of federal government at their backs.

by Anonymousreply 9February 19, 2021 3:46 AM

So if you're white and live in an "urban" area, you're a white devil because of gentrification, but if you're white and move the burbs, you're a white devil for walking away from the "problem".

Sounds like a win win scenario for the people who exist on outrage and hate.

People who just want to do their thing and get along, not so much.

by Anonymousreply 10February 19, 2021 10:16 PM

Lot sizes are not to keep black people out. This is getting so ridiculous. These communities don't want tenement housing for anyone. They want giant lots because they all hate each other and never want to see each other. The richer black people who move to these areas don't want poor white or black trash moving in next door. We need to recognize that some things are racism and some things are classism and stop conflating the two all the time.

by Anonymousreply 11February 20, 2021 1:48 AM

so they are trying to upzone in my city to increase density in run down ghetto areas, and guess what?, "neighborhood " pushback for too tall buildings and increased traffic. People are so fucking stupid about all these issues and are pushing for policies they have no idea about outcomes and ramifications.

by Anonymousreply 12February 20, 2021 2:04 AM

I guess Trump wasn’t so full of shit when he said Democrats wanted to abolish the suburbs as the AP claimed.

Great.

Just when we're putting the inner cities back together thanks to poverty heading into the suburbs.

by Anonymousreply 14February 20, 2021 2:41 AM

R10, This is exactly what I have been saying.

I do not want to live next to an apartment building. Or some huge McMansion. In my area, there have been a ton of tear downs and rebuilds of giant homes on tiny lots. It looks absolutely fucking ridiculous. I can't imagine there isn't run off issues as well.

Its not racism or classism, no one wants trashy neighbours with their loud music and feral offspring.

by Anonymousreply 17February 20, 2021 10:49 PM

Disgusting people attract other disgusting people, no matter where you live. Stop making everything about race.

by Anonymousreply 18February 20, 2021 11:09 PM

The super wealthy, after they’ve destroyed the suburbs for the rest of us, will still have their gated communities.

We need to soak the rich.

by Anonymousreply 19February 20, 2021 11:11 PM

Not American, but don't houses in affluent suburbs have higher property taxes making it almost impossible for poorer people to afford to live there?

by Anonymousreply 20February 20, 2021 11:13 PM

Boil them in oil
