I don’t listen to pop music nearly as much as I did when I was younger but the first song that popped into my head was Audra Day’s “Rise Up.” Always happy to hear it — I even like the cover their using for the new Indeed Super Bowl spot.

Speaking of Andra, this Diane Warren song has a classic vibe.

I can’t think of a single pop song. And the only album, released in the past 10 years, I like is Sufjan Steven’s “Carrie & Lowell”. Pop music has dumbed down to such a profound degree, it’s depressing.

I’d also have to add some Adele — Someone Like You Rolling in the Deep Don’t you Remember Was and still am obsessed with Ms. Adkins.

Looking at my Spotify top 40 of the 2010s, everything is a bit underground (I loved it, others not so much). The ones that were big hits:

R45 I love good disco, but that heavy disco remix sounds more like a 1990s disco-inspired club mix. It doesn't retain any of the airy, magical essence of the Limahl original.

I love this song, Feel It Still, but the video doesn’t do it justice. They should have just had the women from Mad Men dancing to it.

Oh, and apparently, Bareilles' "King of Anything" was released in 2010, and not 2011. But I included it anyway. Because it's fucking great. And so is "Uncharted", from the same album. That whole album is really good.

I never tire of the video or the song. Most videos don't have any creativity or budget nowadays. It's just a live ego driven performance put on tape. Ho hum.

Sarah Jarosz: 'Johnny.' She received a Grammy nomination for a song from her first album that was recorded when she was still in high school. Her fourth album, released in 2016, won two Grammys. I just discovered her last year.

Little Mix actually produced some catchy, powerful pop that harks back to the Good Old Days.

"Feels" didn't bore me like most Calvin Harris music. I'm guessing that's because it has Pharrell Williams Power.

Chromeo aren't well-known, either. But they really do produce some excellent funk tunes that most people would like if they heard them.
