People who go without masks after getting COVID shots
I was in Publix grocery store getting my first COVID shot when a guy who had just gotten his second shot ripped off his mask and said he would never wear one again. The technician who gave him the shot told him to put it back on as he could still be a spreader. He said he didn't care, as long as he didn't get it.
Really? Is this what we have to live with for the future?

I wonder who he voted for?

She should’ve told him while giving it to him that it can take up to 2 weeks to build up immunity after the second shot. Maybe he’ll catch it and die.

Four people in Oregon have tested positive AFTER having had BOTH vaccinations. Don't hate on me just because I know better....

This is what I’ve been tell you all was going to happen. The shots are going to lead to a surge of infections that will dwarf everything we’ve seen so far. People, especially in the US, do not give a flying fuck about anyone but themselves. None of the people who get the shots will wear masks, will distance, will continue staying in. They will each spread CV19 to thousands of people.

No shit R3. The vaccines are not 100% effective. Everyone knows that.

R3 NONE of the vaccines are 100% effective. No one has ever claimed that.

R6 apparently not. You’d be amazed how many think this is over once they get the second shot.

Hopefully, we will get to herd immunity before all the masks come off. 'Herd' what an appropriate name for the sheeple who line up for their shots.

To answer OP's question: Yes. You think the asshat Boomer types were entitled BEFORE they had vaccines, just you wait.
"I got mine, fuck you." They should print that on the US's money already.

On the low end, 80% of infections are “asymptomatic”, except for that pesky rapid organ failure and brain aneurysms, etc. The vast majority of people who have had or will become infected with CV19 do not know they have had it and will not know they have had it, as their symptoms can be blamed on fluke luck or ‘natural’ causes. All of those people have been and will be contagious for the same period of time, some scientists say longer, than those with classic respiratory symptoms. Antibodies from infection from *specific strains* of CV19 can last, possibly, up to six months. Pfizer hopes their vaccine provides immunity for up to 3 months. Masks, distancing and actually enforced lockdown are the only realistic solution to stopping the spread. Vaccines are giving people a sense of invincibility, while they wander around slaughtering their neighbors.

Sylvia, you dipshit, it’s the 20-something who haven’t been masking this entire time and who have been throwing nightly keggers for the last year.

Here in NYC, people seem to still be following the mask mandate for the most part. There have been plenty of anti-mask people around the country this whole time, I don’t think being vaccinated will make that much difference overall.

R13 In no way is it true 80% of cases are asymptomatic. It's more like 33%. Not everyone who tests positive ends up on a ventilator, but the severity of symptoms varies massively. Most people describe mild symptoms as like having a 'head cold' or even a three day hangover. I work for the NHS dealing with people who are isolating following a positive PCR and the difference in symptoms from one person to the other is vast.

R17, sorry, but you’re wrong. Of those tested, which we know is a tiny percentage of those who have contracted the illness, 80% have been asymptomatic. That’s hard data.

I'm vaccinated but my (younger) partner is not, so you'd better believe I'm masking up outside the house.
Dr. Ashish Jha commented that some people may never feel comfortable going unmasked on things like buses and subways, which got me thinking. I used to commute by subway and every year I'd have 2-3 colds, nothing major, just feeling lousy for a couple of days. Obviously I've not been commuting since last March but since then I haven't had so much as the sniffles. I'm thinking that when we do get back to 'normal', the Japanese philosophy of mask-wearing in public isn't such a bad idea.

The nervous nellies and chicken shits would love to see everyone wearing masks for the rest of our lives. Well guess what, AIN'T GOING TO HAPPEN!

I know of 4 couples where one tested positive but their spouse or partner did not. I imagine quite a few people have natural immunity. But yeah you can still spread the virus with the vaccine however your chances of becoming severely ill requiring hospitalization or even death are reduced by almost 100%.

OP
Based on the 75M people that voted for Trump (Yeah! I'll take four more years of that shit sandwich only bigger and better!"), yes, "...this what we have to live with for the future?".

People will contract Covid, just as people contract flu. Neither 100% vaccinated nor a cure will ever happen.

Yes, I think masks will last awhile, especially in places where you cannot safely distance like public transportation. I still think Broadway is fucked for another year, at least.

People have actually gone from "We need to lockdown everything until we get the vaccine!" to "We need to lockdown everything because we have the vaccine." Absolute madness.

I think people are going to have a hard time wrapping their head around the fact that even if fully vaccinated, they can still catch Covid-19 AND transmit it to others. They are just far less likely to get sick and die from Covid-19.

R31, they’re not going to bother even trying to get their heads around it. They’re going to flounce around infecting nearly everyone they come in contact with. Most of the people jumping to skip the queue to get vaxxed are doing so because they want to stop wearing masks, they want to go back to partying, they want to go to bars. And they’re going to do exactly that.

Well, really... Is anybody surprised? In this self-righteous, 'Be Best', do unto others first society, this is what happens. People since the WW2 generation have been trained that you have to fight for everything you get, and if you don't get it you are not fighting hard enough.
Trump has pushed a button with society, perhaps the world, that cannot be reversed and we are just beginning to see how rude, nasty and evil people can truly be.

I’ve been wondering how long that would take. Thing is, un-vaccinated people still risk going to a hospital or walk-in clinics and worrying about catching anything. All the flus that go around, if they even catch that, it puts them at risk for catching covid if they try to get help.
