what laptop are you on right now?

or other device?

Would you suggest it to others? What would you prefer?

iPad Air. I have a Surface for my “computer” work, but use my iPad most of the time.

by Anonymousreply 1February 14, 2021 11:09 PM

I'm on a Dell laptop. They used to be good, but not anymore.

by Anonymousreply 2February 14, 2021 11:11 PM

Sorry, OP, I respect my client’s privacy.

by Anonymousreply 3February 14, 2021 11:12 PM

MacBook Pro. It's my work computer. I probably shouldn't be hanging out here.

I agree. I had no luck with Dells after several purchases.

When I retired a year ago I bought a 13" HP Pavilion and I love it. I got a small one because I was going to travel the world and wanted something convenient and light, and we all now how THAT turned out, but overall I'm happy with the performance and quality.

It’s an iPad - has its own phone number and doesn’t need WiFi, but it’s a Bluetooth slut that will pair with anything. A Bluetooth smart bulb started grunting while I was streaming hairy fuck porn.

by Anonymousreply 6February 14, 2021 11:27 PM

I alternate between:

Alienware Area-51m

iPad Pro 4th generation

iPhone 12 Pro Max

HP Zbook (work)

by Anonymousreply 7February 14, 2021 11:29 PM

What the hell is R6 talking about? What is a “Bluetooth slut?”

by Anonymousreply 8February 14, 2021 11:30 PM

dells

by Anonymousreply 9February 14, 2021 11:39 PM

A Bluetooth slut pairs with any Bluetooth device automatically.

by Anonymousreply 10February 14, 2021 11:39 PM

Surface. I'm never going back to cheap pcs again.

by Anonymousreply 11February 14, 2021 11:42 PM

I’m on a 2020 12.9” iPad Pro with the magic keyboard, and it’s fucking brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 12February 15, 2021 12:17 AM

i'm on a shitty acer laptop. i've had it for 3 years and i even upgraded the RAM. it still sucks. i'm just lazy about getting another because of the massive PITA it is to transfer shit over. but i'm pretty close to upgrading since i need to reboot almost every day because it lags so much.

and NOPE, never going to a mac. i don't support planned obsolescence.

by Anonymousreply 13February 15, 2021 12:27 AM

Lenovo, and it is perfectly fine. I always just buy the cheapest PC (I hate all things Apple) that is the size I want and have never gone wrong. They last five or six years and I get a new one. It is stupid to pay and get the top-of-the-line when you need one because it will be outdated in a month and they all have more than enough power and storage space anyway.

Dell Latitude E-6430

A 2013 Macbook Pro

by Anonymousreply 16February 15, 2021 12:38 AM

Surprised you don't need a new one r16 as the power cord doesn't work anymore and you can't buy another since they don't sell them anymore. bravo.

by Anonymousreply 17February 15, 2021 12:48 AM

I'm om a ipad but it can be a PITA. It doesn't always navigate well and it's hard to type at times.

My HD on my 3 year old HP laptop is not working. I did some diagnostic test on it as told to by some youtube tutorial and it said my HD is not working or not connected or some fucked up thing. Another tutorial said if ai get that message then just get a new HD.

But I think I just need to get a new computer and get this one fixed as a back up - I still have to get my files off it, especially work related files, so I'll need to see my computer repair guy anyway.

This is maybe my 5Th HP laptop over the last 2 decades. It's fine exceot this oatest ine had a shitty, too shallow keyboard. I jave also always insisted on a DVD/CD in the machine but they are niw hard to find. If it looks like I won't need the internal DVD driver for work then I can just get an external one - they're pretty cheap - and that opens up my HP laptop choices.

Anyway, What a PITA is it to get a new laptop. The old stores I went to just 3 years ago are permanently closed and now i may need to order one online and do all the set up work myself - which I seem to remember I did once before and it was easy then - I guess I also need a new Office program. Shit! So now there are zero Staples in all of DC. WTF!

Yea, not laptop just on my ipeed.

Lol! The power cord on one my past lap tops broke - actually the metal prong that goes into the outlet broke off. I thought shit these things cost like $60. Then I thought about the "dead" or otherwise compromised older laptops I still had and lo and behold one of those old cords was exactly the same.

R4, I used to use my work-issued laptop for personal stuff, then read about the rights employers have to snoop on what you do on their equipment. Per an article in NYT's Wirecutter:

If you use a work-issued laptop or desktop computer, you’ve likely been tempted to check your personal email, store private files on the company’s Google Drive, or avoid work entirely by diving into a research rabbit hole that has absolutely nothing to do with your job. You probably shouldn’t do any of this on a computer provided by your employer.

Employers can install software to monitor what you do on your work-issued laptop or desktop. In the most watchful of workplaces, this may include keyloggers that can see everything you type or screenshot tools that track your productivity. What type of surveillance and security software is installed on your company computer is often based on two factors: how large the company is (and what resources it has to dedicate to this) and what type of information you deal with in your role. If you work with sensitive materials, such as health records, financial data, or government contracts, you can count on your employer keeping a careful eye on what you do.

HP Pavilion, my second. My first one lasted for years.

by Anonymousreply 21February 15, 2021 12:59 AM

i NEVER use my work laptop for anything other than work. i barely ever do anything other than do work on it...i have ordered doordash on it and looked up some imdb bs for a show that i'm watching on netflix while working. i have on occasion checked my email which was a huge mistake because i unleashed a virus for a stupid email i checked. but nope, i do not mix the two except for when it comes to food.

by Anonymousreply 22February 15, 2021 1:00 AM

A Dell Latitude that my BF gave me when my Gateway tower finally died. I added a monitor, keyboard and mouse, since I don't have the patience, the tiny fingers, or the eyesight to actually use the laptop as designed.

by Anonymousreply 23February 15, 2021 1:02 AM

I am on the Dell my boss gave me for working from home. I do not have one of my own; rather, I use my iPad w/keyboard for personal stuff.
